Woman shares pic of 14-year-old son's bruised hand, smashed phone after Cristiano Ronaldo's outburst

Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo issued an apology on social media after knocking a fan's phone to the ground in frustration post his club's 1-0 defeat against Everton in the Premier League on Saturday. After their disappointing exit from the Champions League, United have been winless in their last two matches in the Premier League as they drew 1-1 against Leicester City in their previous outing before slipping to a shambolic defeat against Everton on Saturday.

Ronaldo, who failed to find the back of the net and rescue his side, was seemingly frustrated post the game and appeared to have smashed an Everton fan's phone to the ground while walking through the tunnel at the Goodison Park. In a video that has gone viral on social media, Ronaldo can be seen siping his hands towards the ground as he walked off the pitch post the game.

As per claims of fans who were present at the stadium, Ronaldo knocked down the fan's phone out of his hand as it smashed to the ground. Ronaldo took to social media to apologise for his actions and also invited the fan to watch a game at Old Trafford.

"It's never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing," Ronaldo said. "Nevertheless, we always have to be respectful, patient and set the example for all the youngsters who love the beautiful game," Ronaldo wrote in a social media post.

"I would like to apologise for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair-play and sportsmanship," he added.

Cristiano Ronaldo issues apology for knocking fan's phone post Manchester United's defeat vs Everton

Manchester United's miserable season continued on Saturday as Everton boosted their Premier League survival hopes with a 1-0 win over Ralf Rangnick's side at Goodison Park.

Out of all cup competitions, United were looking to earn a victory that would have moved them level on points with Tottenham Hotspur in fourth.

But their task was made all the more difficult when Anthony Gordon gave Everton a first-half lead.

For the Toffees, hovering above the relegation zone, the nerves showed after the break, but the visitors lacked the quality to get back into the match despite a wealth of attacking options on the pitch.

A late Cristiano Ronaldo effort was as close as United came to a leveller as they slipped to a loss that leaves the team with the most English top flight titles ever seventh in the standings, three points behind Spurs, who play Aston Villa later on Saturday.

Everton defended for their lives at the death, hanging on for a precious victory that helped them pull four points clear of 18th-placed Burnley, who travel to Norwich City on Sunday.

Brought back into the United starting lineup, Marcus Rashford looked lively on his 200th Premier League start early on, forcing two good saves out of home goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

The groans became more audible around Goodison as the half wore on, with their error-prone team misplacing pass after pass.

The hosts did not muster an attack until the 27th minute, but they got the stroke of luck they needed as Gordon's effort was deflected past David de Gea off United captain Harry Maguire's back and in, as the home fans roared with delight.

Buoyed by their break, Brazilian striker Richarlison found the confidence to send a dipping strike towards goal, again aided by a deflection, which forced De Gea into an agile stop.

With their season in danger of fizzling out, United needed a response in the second half. Bruno Fernandes picked out a brilliant pass for Rashford, but he failed to connect when through on goal.

For all their possession in the second half – United had almost 75% of the ball after the interval – they could not find the killer pass, with a Paul Pogba effort from distance and Ronaldo's late snapshot their only real opportunities of note.

U.S. to face England and Iran, Spain meet Germany in FIFA World Cup 2022 group stage

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said on Friday he expects discussions over the Premier League club`s sale to intensify over the coming weeks, but he was unsure if he should be meeting potential owners.
The German said last month that he was fully committed to the team and willing to adapt to a new owner`s demands.

European champions Chelsea were initially put up for sale by owner Roman Abramovich following Russia`s invasion of Ukraine before sanctions were imposed on the oligarch by the British government, effectively giving it control of the club. The Ricketts family and groups led by Martin Broughton and Todd Boehly are among the bidders to have been included on a shortlist of potential buyers. British media also reported that Stephen Pagliuca, joint owner of NBA team Boston Celtics, could also be in the running.

"I am not sure if I could tell you the names. It`s my information that it`s down to four and in the next weeks there should be further talks and negotiations," Tuchel told a news conference ahead of Saturday`s Premier League game against Brentford. "I`m not sure if they want to (meet me) and I`m not sure if I should (meet them). Maybe it`s best for me to be involved as late as possible in this." Tuchel also hailed the British government`s decision to amend its operating licence to allow supporters of the club to buy tickets to away games.

Chelsea were unable to sell tickets after the government imposed sanctions on Abramovich, and their home game against Brentford will only be attended by season ticket holders. "We are happy things changed and we can have fans at the FA Cup semi-final and Champions League," Tuchel said. "So everybody has to step up tomorrow and has a responsibility to create a good atmosphere. We need our spectators behind us, so if we are a little bit less, they have to compensate for those missing."

The German added that he could do little to help Chelsea midfielder Jorginho put the disappointment of Italy`s World Cup qualifying loss behind him, stressing that it was the club`s responsibility to create a "safe place" for players. "I`ll be honest, I didn`t speak a lot about that (Italy`s elimination) because what could I say to get his pain away? Nothing," Tuchel said.

"Like always, it`s our job more to create an environment and atmosphere. He came in one day earlier than he needed to be and that`s why I had the feeling he loved to come back and it be a positive environment."
Chelsea are third in the table with 59 points from 28 matches.

"We are happy things changed and we can have fans at the FA Cup semi-final and Champions League," Tuchel said. "So everybody has to step up tomorrow and has a responsibility to create a good atmosphere. We need our spectators behind us, so if we are a little bit less, they have to compensate for those missing." The German added that he could do little to help Chelsea midfielder Jorginho put the disappointment of Italy`s World Cup qualifying loss behind him, stressing that it was the club`s responsibility to create a "safe place" for players. "I`ll be honest, I didn`t speak a lot about that (Italy`s elimination) because what could I say to get his pain away? Nothing," Tuchel said. "Like always, it`s our job more to create an environment and atmosphere. He came in one day earlier than he needed to be and that`s why I had the feeling he loved to come back and it be a positive environment." Chelsea are third in the table with 59 points from 28 matches.

FIFA and UEFA have taken a big step in the wake of the Ukraine crisis. In the aftermath of the sad turn of events in Ukraine, Russia's national teams and clubs have been suspended from international football until further notice.

Paris Saint Germain were on a roll as they stormed past Saint-Etienne 3-1 in a dramatic fashion in Ligue 1 on Sunday (February 27). Kylian Mbappe struck twice to take PSG to a memorable win and was ably assisted by superstar footballer Lionel Messi. Messi produced moments of brilliance to revive PSG's fortunes after the club had conceded the opening goal of the game to Saint-Etienne. Trailing 1-0, the 34-year-old Messi changed the course of the game during the 42nd minute. The Argentinian converted a pass with his left foot into a magical assist before Mbappe ran two to three yards faster and made up for it by kicking it ferociously into the net. In his second assist, Messi showcased his incredible skills once again and went past as many as four Saint-Etienne players to get the ball through to Mbappe. The French player didn't miss the chance to score a goal to the right of the keeper to put PSG on top, 2-1 ahead in the game, in the span of five minutes. Eventually, the result went in favour of PSG 3-1, courtesy a goal from Danilo Pereira (52nd minute).
Leeds United on Sunday confirmed that the Premier League club have parted company with head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

In his second campaign, Bielsa succeeded where those before him had failed, guiding the club to the Championship title, winning the division by 10 points, and resulting in promotion back to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years.

Virgil van Dijk then added a sixth with a powerful header from a corner as his side sounded out a warning to Pep Guardiola`s Manchester City, reports Xinhua.

Anthony Elanga`s 80th-minute goal gave Manchester United a 1-1 draw away to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie. The result flattered United, who did very little in the game played on Wednesday night, but at the same time, it was a punishment for Atletico for not taking chances and their tendency to defend a narrow lead.

The game was just seven minutes old when Atletico took the lead. United half-cleared a corner, but Renan Lodi whipped the ball back into the area for Joao Felix to race in ahead of Harry Maguire and head the ball past David de Gea and in off the post.

United were struggling to connect in attack, while Atletico looked threatening every time they pushed forward, although having taken the lead, they were content to sit deep and look to play on the break, reports Xinhua.

At the half-hour mark, De Gea was United`s saviour as he denied Angel Correa when the striker was through on goal after robbing Raphael Varane, who moments afterward again gave the ball away to Geoffrey Kondogbia.

As the session progressed, things got increasingly scrappy with Cristiano Ronaldo, booed every time he touched the ball, coming in for some rough treatment, before Sime Vrsaljko rattled the crossbar with a header when he should have scored following a cross from Lodi.

Fernandes has also rubbished the rumours of a rift between him and Maguire, whose captaincy position at the club has come under the scanner amid a string of poor performances on the pitch.

A lot has been speculated about a potential power struggle in the Manchester United dressing room with the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo emerging as a contender to challenge Maguire for captaincy.
Fans had fueled the fire to the reports of a rift between Maguire and Fernandes when the midfielder shared a picture on Instagram with Bailly and Varane. “feeling very safe," Fernandes captioned the post in which he can be seen standing between the two centre backs during training. Fans were quick to speculate that it was a dig on Maguire, who is competing with Varane and Bailly for the central defender position at the club.

Responding to the speculations, Fernandes clarified his post was not a dig on Maguire and that people question everything at Manchester United. The Portuguese, who has regained his lost form in the league with brilliant performances in the last few games, said people always make stories around the club and its players but it's important for them to stick together.
