Manchester United star Mason Greenwood has been arrested for allegedly breaching his bail conditions. The England striker was arrested in January this year after being accused of rape and assault by his former girlfriend. The 21-year-old was detained by the police in an alleged rape and assault case before being bailed.

He was arrested again from his mansion on Saturday after he allegedly tried to contact the victim - his former girlfriend. As per the conditions laid out in his bail contract, Greenwood was told not to contact the victim at any point during the ongoing case. However, a 'breach' of the conditions has once again put the Manchester United star in trouble.

"Greater Manchester Police are aware of an allegation regarding a 21-year-old man breaching his bail conditions and an arrest has been made on Saturday 15 October 2022. Enquiries are ongoing at this time," said a spokesperson of the Greater Manchester Police.

Greenwood's ex-girlfriend Harriet Robson had taken to social media to release horrific pictures of bruises on her body and blood dripping out of her nose in January this year to accuse Greenwood of rape and assault. In an audio leaked by Robson, Greenwood was also heard threatening to kill her for refusing sex.

He was later arrested by the Greater Manchester Police and released on bail on February 02. He was due to answer his bail on April 30 before the date was pushed back following a court hearing in June this year. Greenwood was suspended by Manchester United following the allegations against him and has not played for the club ever since.

However, Greenwood is still contracted by United and continues to receive his salary as an outcome is pending in the case. Greenwood's name has also not been removed from United's official squad on their website. United had earlier said Greenwood remains their player while the legal process is on.

"There has been no change whatsoever in Mason’s status. We removed his profile from the club app soon after he was removed from the squad in January. This was in order to remove Mason from interactive elements of the app, such as team predictions etc," United had said in a statement.

"However, his profile was never removed from the website as he remains a Manchester United player, albeit not currently part of the squad while the legal process unfolds," they added.

Liverpool cannot compete with Manchester City's financial power, manager Jurgen Klopp said on Friday, adding that their Premier League rivals and some other clubs "can do what they want".

Second-placed City visit Liverpool in the weekend's most anticipated Premier League clash on Sunday as they are 13 points clear of Klopp's side, who have a game in hand.

Asked how Liverpool could keep up with Pep Guardiola's team, who won the Premier League for the fourth time in five seasons in May, Klopp replied that nobody could.

"You will not like the answer, and you all have the answer already. Nobody can compete with City in that," he said.

"You have the best team in the world and you put in the best striker on the market. No matter what it costs, you just do it.

A month after reporting their biggest-ever financial loss, Juventus are braced for yet more economic pain as they near elimination from the Champions League.

Tuesday's humiliating 2-0 defeat by Maccabi Haifa left chief executive Andrea Agnelli "ashamed" and "angry" as his club sank five points behind second-placed Benfica in Group H with two games left to play.

They face the prospect of not making it out of the group stage for the first time since 2013.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri, who is enduring a torrid second spell in charge of Juventus after a trophy-laden first tenure, responded by obliging the team to stay at their base for three days before Saturday's derby in the league against Torino.

Juve's European struggles come at a particularly acute time for the club, who last month posted a loss of 254 million euros ($247.07 million) for the last financial year.

Not making the Champions League knockout round would deprive Juventus of 9.6 million euros of prize money for reaching the last 16 plus a potential 38.6 million euros in the event they reached the final.

A bigger concern long-term would be a failure to finish in the top-four of Serie A and make it into next season's competition, a very real threat with the team currently eighth in the Serie A standings.

The team's poor results mark another low for Agnelli, one of the architects of the doomed European Super League.

The proposed league, which collapsed two days after its launch in April 2021, sought to guarantee entry and increase prize money for the continent's biggest sides and guard against the impact of one poor campaign.

Juventus are one of three clubs of the 12 founders to still back the Super League, along with Barcelona, who are also on the brink of Champions League elimination, and Real Madrid. Their hopes of resurrecting the project rest on a case being considered by the European Union’s top court.

This is Juventus' most difficult period since the 2010-11 season, when they finished seventh in Serie A, although their struggles then could be explained by the devastating effects of the 2006 Calciopoli corruption scandal.

Their current travails are harder to excuse. Juve won a record nine consecutive Serie A titles between 2012 and 2020, a period in which they also reached two Champions League finals.

Allegri returned as coach in 2021 in the hope he would restore them to their past glories after the unsuccessful appointments of Maurizio Sarri and novice Andrea Pirlo.

But the coach has been accused of failing to move with the times, sticking rigidly to outdated tactics.

Despite the dire results, Agnelli has insisted he will not sack Allegri mid-season.

"A situation like this isn't dependent on one person. It comes down to the collective and we must start thinking like one again," he said on Tuesday.

The problem for Agnelli is Juventus have been on the decline for several years under his watch, both on and off the pitch.

Juventus sinking to new lows as Champions League exit looms

The ball that Diego Maradona used to score his infamous "Hand of God" World Cup goal for Argentina against England in 1986 will go under the hammer next month and could fetch up to £3 million. Bidding will start on November 16 but prospective buyers can register online from October 28, London-based Graham Budd Auctions said, adding it anticipates the ball to sell for £2.5-£3 million (up to $3.4 million).

"With the history surrounding the ball, we are expecting this lot to be hugely popular when it comes up for auction," Graham Budd, chair of the auction house, said in a statement. The 1986 quarter-final between Argentina and England saw a heated build-up because of political tensions following the Falklands war and came to be defined by two contrasting goals scored by the late Maradona.

For the first one, Maradona ran into the box, rose with England goalkeeper Peter Shilton and punched the ball into the net. He later said the goal had been scored "a little with the head of Maradona, a little with the hand of God".

The second came just four minutes later as Maradona sped past five English defenders and Shilton to score the "Goal of the Century", according to a 2002 FIFA poll. Argentina won the grudge match 2-1 after referee Ali Bin Nasser let Maradona's controversial first goal stand, and the team went on to win the World Cup.

"This ball is part of international football history, it feels like the right time to be sharing it with the world," said Bin Nasser, the owner of the ball. In May, the jersey Maradona wore in the quarter-final sold at auction for nearly $9.3 million, more than twice the value predicted by Sotheby's.

But the record-setting sale for sports memorabilia worn on the field was surpassed in September when basketball legend Michael Jordan's 1998 NBA finals jersey sold for $10.1 million.

The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) and world soccer governing body FIFA will form a joint taskforce in a bid to improve crowd control and safety measures after a deadly soccer stampede earlier this month, officials said on Thursday (October 13).

The joint taskforce will also include members of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) as well as the police and the ministries of sport, home affairs, health and public works. Under the plan, Indonesian police would ensure their standard operating procedures are synchronised with FIFA regulations, PSSI head, Mochamad Iriawan, told reporters after a meeting with FIFA officials.

A lot of action and drama is taking place in the ongoing English Premier League (EPL) 2022-23 edition. Ahead of the much-awaited Chelsea-Manchester United clash, set to be held on October 22, a controversy has emerged, off the field, with the Old Trafford club's fans not pleased at all.

The Manchester United Supporters Trust have threatened legal proceedings against Hammersmith and Fulham Council after a cut to the ticket allocation for Erik Ten Hag-led club's visit to Chelsea, to be held later this month.

Manchester United Supporters' Trust lawyers have, thus, taken matters into their own hands and recently sent a letter to Hammersmith and Fulham Council in a bid to place a request to issue a new safety certificate to allow fans to attend the high-voltage clash, at the Stamford Bridge stadium in Fulham.

Manchester United's Scott McTominay managed a last-gasp strike to spare his team's blushes as they claimed a 1-0 victory at home to Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League on Thursday. Arsenal also earned a 1-0 win at Bodo/Glimt with a Bukayo Saka goal to make it three Europa League victories in a row as they took another step towards securing the top spot in Group A.

United had 34 shots and dominated possession in the Group E encounter but only just managed to snatch the points. In the other game in their group, Real Sociedad became the second LaLiga side to secure a top-two spot as goals from Alexander Sorloth, Diego Rico and substitute Roberto Navarro secured a 3-0 home win against Sheriff.

Real Betis, Fenerbahce, Rennes and Freiburg all secured top-two finishes, which guarantee at least a place in the knockout round playoffs, earlier on Thursday. United put Omonoia under pressure from the start but were frustrated and went into the break with the score at 0-0.

They continued to waste chances in the second half with boos ringing around Old Trafford until a crescendo of relief when substitute McTominay scored three minutes into stoppage time.

SAKA STRIKES

Arsenal got their winner in the 24th minute when Saka's deflected shot inside the box caught Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Khaikin off guard and bounced inside the lower left post. PSV Eindhoven kept up the pressure on the Gunners with a 5-0 thrashing of visitors FC Zurich which took them to seven points behind Arsenal on nine. The Swiss side are bottom with no points and out of contention for the next phase of the competition.

In Group C, Betis drew 1-1 with AS Roma after Sergio Canales' goal was cancelled out by Andrea Belotti but it was enough for the LaLiga side to secure a top-two position. Ludogorets put pressure on Jose Mourinho's Roma as the Bulgarian side won 2-0 at home to HJK Helsinki to reach seven points above the Italians with four and two games remaining.

The Finnish champions can now only get a third place finish that secures a spot in the Europa Conference League. Fenerbahce and Rennes will finish in the top two in Group B after the Turkish side won 2-1 at AEK Larnaca, while Christopher Wooh saw Rennes to a 1-0 win in Krakow against Dynamo Kyiv.

In Group D, a hat-trick from SC Braga's Vitor Oliveira was not enough to secure a win at table-topping Union SG as the teams drew 3-3. Union Berlin stayed in touch with the leaders by winning 1-0 at home to Malmo after defender Robin Knoche scored in the 89th minute. The result means the Swedish side will finish bottom.

Lazio and Sturm Graz drew 2-2 in Rome, keeping Group F wide open, while Ferencvaros have the upper hand in Group H after a 2-1 home win over Red Star Belgrade, with Trabzonspor three points behind in second after beating visitors Monaco 4-0.

They continued to waste chances in the second half with boos ringing around Old Trafford until a crescendo of relief when substitute McTominay scored three minutes into stoppage time. SAKA STRIKES Arsenal got their winner in the 24th minute when Saka's deflected shot inside the box caught Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Khaikin off guard and bounced inside the lower left post.

Europa League: Manchester United, Arsenal scrape wins as Real Sociedad claim top-two spot

Paris Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier said rumours about Kylian Mbappe's future did not disrupt his team's preparations for Tuesday's Champions League match against Benfica. Stuttering PSG were held to a third straight draw as the game at the Parc des Princes ended 1-1 after Mbappe put them ahead from the penalty spot just before half-time.

It came after various media reports in Spain and France earlier in the day suggested Mbappe would seek to leave PSG in the January transfer window, despite only signing a new three-year contract at the end of last season. "I know nothing," Galtier said when asked about the reports following Tuesday's game. "All I know is that a rumour became a story and then that almost became a declaration. "I found it very surprising that such a story should come out just before such a big game."

He added: "I didn't see anything unusual in Kylian's preparation for the game, and he played with a lot of rhythm and intensity and gave a response to the rumours. "We remained focused on the match and I don't think the rumour disrupted our preparations."

Mbappe's goal was his 12th of the season for his club in 13 games but he is reportedly unhappy at his positioning in the PSG team and that the Qatar-owned outfit did not sign a top-class centre-forward in the close season. He had been expected to move to Real Madrid at the end of the last campaign before opting to stay in Paris with the club he first joined from Monaco in 2017.

Galtier questioned the motivation behind the reports coming out when they did, with PSG -- minus the injured Lionel Messi -- missing the chance to secure qualification for the Champions League last 16 with two group games to spare following the draw. "That this rumour should emerge just four or five hours before this game, I am entitled to be surprised," he said. "Who does this rumour help? Who is it useful to? Not us."

Omer Atzili scored twice as Maccabi Haifa beat struggling Juventus 2-0 on Tuesday in Champions League Group H, pushing the Italian giants to the brink of elimination. Juve are third in their group after four matches, equal on three points with Maccabi, who remain bottom despite their first win, and four behind Benfica and Paris Saint-Germain, who play later in the evening.

Juventus had suggested their form was improving as they beat the Israeli team in Turin last week, but lost to AC Milan on Saturday to slide to eighth in Serie A. After the game Juventus president Andrea Agnelli expressed his dismay but repeated his support for coach Massimiliano Allegri. "I'm ashamed of what's happening right now," said Agnelli to Sky Sport Italia. "There is no one person culpable, it's not the coach's fault if we can't win a tackle. Allegri is going to remain coach of Juventus."

The hosts dominated the first half at the Sammy Ofer stadium and took the lead after seven minutes. Atzili outjumped the visiting defence to meet a cross from Pierre Cornud, and although he turned his head away just before making contact, the ball struck his back. Wojciech Szczesny reached the ball but it crawled through his outstretched fingers and in off the post. Maccabi poured forward. Tjaronn Chery hit the bar. Szczesny saved from Atzili. The home team continued to dominate after Juventus midfielder Angel di Maria limped off with a thigh problem in the 24th minute.
Three minutes before half time, Atzili shaped to curl a left-footy shot inside the far post, but instead clipped it inside the near post with Szczesny rooted to his line.

Juventus managed their first strike on goal seconds before half time but Joshua Cohen saved low from Dusan Vlahovic's header.
Juventus pressed from the start of the second half and Cohen saved high from a Daniele Rugani header flying toward the top corner.
He later saved from wingers Juan Cuadrado and Arkadiusz Milik but Maccabi created late chances as they held on comfortably.
In their third appearance in the Champions League group stage, Maccabi claimed their second big scalp 20 years after their first.
In their debut campaign they beat Manchester United 3-0 at home in October 2002. They failed to progress then or on their second appearance in 2009-10.

Maccabi Haifa register first UCL victory since 2002, push Juventus closer to elimination with 2-0 win

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag on Wednesday confirmed Cristiano Ronaldo will defend himself against the charge of improper conduct levied against him by the English Football Association. Ronaldo was charged by the English FA after he smashed an Everton fan's phone out of his hand in frustration after Manchester United's loss against the club last season.

The incident happened in April this year when Ronaldo was caught on camera knocking a phone out of the hand of an Everton supporter, who was trying to film the United players heading back to the dressing room after their 1-0 defeat. A frustrated Ronaldo slapped the phone out of the young fan's hand leaving him with a bruised hand and a smashed phone.

The Manchester United star was cautioned by the police over the incident before he was charged with a breach of Rule E3 by the English Football Association over his conduct. Amid calls for strict punishment from the fan's mother, Ronaldo has decided to contest the charge.

Manchester United manager Ten Hag said he had a discussion with the Portuguese forward on the matter and he said he will not accept the charge. "We spoke about that. He will not accept it," Ten Hag said confirming Ronaldo's stand on the matter.

The case will be heard by an FA panel in the upcoming days. Earlier, the mother of the 14-year-old autistic Everton fan Jacob had called for the 'right punishment' for Ronaldo stating that her son still talks about what happened to him that particular day and is yet to have his phone back.

“Let's hope he finally gets the right punishment. He can't keep getting away with it. His behaviour is unacceptable. I'm being hounded by people saying I'm dragging it up again but I didn't know anything about it. He should have been dealt with six months ago. My son talks about what happened to him every day. He still hasn't had his phone back," the 14-year-old's mother Kely had said.

Ronaldo recently scored his 700th career goal in United's 2-1 win against Everton in the Premier League. The Portuguese legend became the first player in history to complete 700 goals in his club career as United bounced back to winning ways after their crushing 6-3 defeat against Manchester City in their last Premier League outing.

Ronaldo has had a sluggish start to the season but will be hopeful of returning to his best after scoring his first Premier League goal of the season against Everton. Manchester United manager Ten Hag said he is committed to supporting Ronaldo in getting back to his best suggesting that he is getting in better shape and will contribute more going forward.

"I want to support him as good as possible. So we have a certain demand on players, what we expect from him in certain positions on the pitch and what I do, as with other players, is I want to get the best out of them," said Ten Hag.

"He is getting in better shape now and I am happy with that, so he can contribute more to the squad and I'm sure he will do," he added.

Thierry Henry hit out at Kylian Mbappe amid growing rumours that the France forward wants to leave Paris St Germain over his positioning as a lone forward and failed promises by the board.

Reports in the French and Spanish media claimed that the 23-year-old Mbappe, who extended his contract with PSG until 2025 after looking close to joining Real Madrid during the close season, wants to leave the French champions in January.

PSG have denied Mbappe asked to leave.

"Nobody likes to be exposed to what you're not good at, you just don't like it," Henry said on CBS Sports on Tuesday.

In coach Christophe Galtier's 3-4-3 formation, Mbappe is being used a lone forward with Lionel Messi and Neymar on either side, while he has more freedom with France, where he lately played around Olivier Giroud.

"But there is something that is bigger than anything else and that is the club," former France and Arsenal forward Henry said.

"But did they make him feel like the club was the most important thing or did they make him feel like he was more important than the club?".

Henry, France's all-time top scorer (51 goals), said he had a similar experience at Barcelona.

"I will use my own stories. I didn't like to play out high and wide for Barcelona. I hated it. But I did it for the team," he explained.

"I didn't like it after a hundred caps and I don't know how many goals I scored for France, I had to play on the left. I didn't hear anyone say, 'Oh, what a nice gesture!' to go on the left instead of players who had less goals and less caps.

Manchester City are through to the Champions League last 16 with two group games to spare after drawing 0-0 at FC Copenhagen on Tuesday, despite playing the majority of the match with 10 men.

VAR took centre stage in an action-packed first half in Copenhagen. City thought they had taken the lead 11 minutes in with a goal-of-the-season contender from Rodri, only for the strike to be ruled out for handball in the build-up.

The video assistant referee stepped in again moments later to help City win a penalty for another handball, but Riyad Mahrez saw his spot kick saved by home goalkeeper Kamil Grabara.

A busy VAR then asked the referee to have another look at a foul by Sergio Gomez on the edge of the penalty area on the half hour mark, with the on-field official choosing to show the City full back a red card for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

The 10 men more than held their own in the second half, but with Liverpool to come in the Premier League at the weekend and qualification for the knockout stage almost secured, City left top goalscorer Erling Haaland on the bench and saw out the draw.

Top of Group G with 10 points from four matches, City are sure of a last-16 spot after Sevilla were held to a 1-1 draw at Borussia Dortmund, meaning Pep Guardiola's side will finish in the top two, while Copenhagen are bottom on two points.

"Many players didn't start today because they were exhausted and tired and fatigued and (had) niggles," City coach Pep Guardiola said. "Erling didn't feel really good after the game against Southampton, Phil (Foden) had some disturbing problems, Bernardo (Silva) told us yesterday he was so tired.

"We adapted really well (to the red card). They are too good. We're close (to qualifying). It's a good point."

City players were furious that Mahrez was adjudged to have handled the ball before setting up Rodri for the Spaniard's thunderbolt.

However, none of them appealed for the penalty that was awarded after the ball struck home defender Nicolai Boilesen on the arm from a City corner, with the referee having checked the pitchside monitor again.

Mahrez never looked comfortable and has now missed two of his last three spot kicks, while City have missed 24 penalties in all competitions under Pep Guardiola, nine more than any other Premier League side since the Spaniard took charge in 2016.

Gomez, who is yet to start a league game for City, then pulled back Hakon Arnar Haraldsson when through on goal. No foul was given initially, but VAR again took over to change the referee's mind.

With Norwegian goalscoring phenomenon Haaland on the sidelines, having not started for City for the first time this season in all competitions, the visitors failed to finish off several good second-half chances.

Kevin De Bruyne twice drilled wide from good positions, while Joao Cancelo was denied by a smart save from Grabara.

With Copenhagen happy to take anything from a team who hammered them 5-0 in Manchester last week, the latter stages were played at a slower pace, with City's job also done.

Ten-man Manchester City through to Champions League knockout stages with draw in Copenhagen

India were overwhelmed by a formidable USA in their opening match of the FIFA Women's U-17 World Cup as they suffered a 0-8 thrashing in a lop-sided Group A match here on Tuesday.

Reality bit the Indian team as it was toyed by a far more technically superior USA who were 4-0 up by the half-hour mark and 5-0 ahead at half-time.

USA pumped in three more goals in the second session to hand a humiliating defeat on the Indians before a sizeable home crowd at the Kalinga Stadium.

Melina Rebimbas scored a brace (9th and 31st minute) while Charlotte Kohler (15th), Onyeka Gamero (23rd), Gisele Thompson (39th), Ella Emri (51st), Taylor Suarez (59th) and captain Mia Bhuta (62nd) struck a goal each for the Concacaf champions.

India head coach Thomas Dennerby had said before the match that her side would be difficult to score against, having prepared well since February but his players completely were completely clueless and lost the plot on the day. The country's first match in a women's world cup turned out to be a nightmare.

Debutants India, who made it to the age-group showpiece on the basis of being the hosts, were simply run over by USA, who were runners-up in the inaugural edition in 2008 but has not gone past the group stage in three other appearances since then.

The porous Indian defence, including captain Astam Oraon at the left wing back position, leaked goal after goal while the home side could not even stitch even a proper goal-bound move. The Americans had more than 70 per cent ball possession in the first half.

The porous Indian defence, including captain Astam Oraon at the left wing back position, leaked goal after goal while the home side could not even stitch even a proper goal-bound move. The Americans had more than 70 per cent ball possession in the first half. Authorities in Iran have returned the passport of Ali Daei, the country's football legend confirmed to AFP on Monday, after confiscating it for supporting protests over Mahsa Amini's death. Iran has been gripped by nationwide demonstrations since the 22-year-old Kurdish woman's death was announced on September 16, three days after she was arrested in Tehran for allegedly violating the country's strict dress code. The street violence has led to dozens of deaths, mostly of protesters but also of members of the security forces. Hundreds have also been arrested.

"Upon my return from abroad, my passport was confiscated by police at Tehran's international airport in the presence of my family and other people," Daei said, in his first comments to the media since the beginning of the protests. "The receipt they gave me said I had to go to the public and revolutionary prosecutor in the capital (Tehran) to follow up the case," he noted. The passport's confiscation "wasn't and isn't an important issue for me, so I didn't go anywhere", Daei said, adding that the authorities "returned it after two or three days". Daei on September 27 used social media to call on the government to "solve the problems of the Iranian people rather than using repression, violence and arrests". "The confiscation of Ali Daei's passport was due to what he wrote on Instagram in response to the death of Mahsa Amini," reformist paper Hammihan reported earlier Monday.

The survey which was conducted through well-being workshops at the clubs throughout last season found out several players were against getting vaccinated for COVID-19 and felt pressured into getting jabbed. 189 out of the 843 players who were surveyed also opened up about facing severe anxiety and admitted they feared something bad might happen.

The data found in the survey was released by PFA on World Mental Health Day on October 10 and brought forward the dark side of professional football. It showcases how athletes who appear tough from the outside undergo severe stress mentally and face multiple challenges throughout their careers

Dr Michael Bennett, the director of the player wellbeing at the PFA, said the organisation is trying to get more feedback from players and learn what kind of bullying experiences they endured during their careers. "These are stark figures that illustrate how serious these issues are in the game. Based on this feedback, we have adapted the sessions this season to learn more about the type of bullying players face," said Bennett.

"It could be peer-on-peer bullying, for example, from teammates in the dressing room or training ground. It could be by club staff or management. We are particularly concerned around transfer windows.

"We know that players can be isolated from their squads when a club is trying to force a move. We are often dealing with cases like this. Ultimately, whether it is the training ground or the stadium on a match day, it’s a player’s workplace. They have a right to feel protected and safe at work," he explained.

Spanish football great Carles Puyol was criticised by many for 'disrespecting' the LGBT community after he jokingly responded to an 'I am gay' tweet from his former Spain teammate Iker Casillas. The Real Madrid legend had taken to Twitter to claim he was gay before deleting the tweet.

"I hope you respect me: I'm gay," former Real Madrid goalkeeper Casillas wrote in a tweet. Reacting to his post, former Spain captain and Barcelona defender Puyol said - "The time has come to tell our story, Iker."

Casillas' tweet soon went viral on social media as many fans believed the former Real Madrid keeper was finally coming out openly about his sexuality. However, the tweet was later deleted and Casillas claimed his account was hacked as apologised to the LGBT community and the fans.

Erling Haaland has been unstoppable ever since arriving at Manchester City earlier this summer. the Norweigan striker has been banging in goals for fun and has already scored 20 goals across all competitions so far this season. Haaland was close to drawing a blank against Southampton on Sunday but managed to get on the scoresheet by scoring City's final goal in their thumping win.

Guardiola was asked about his reaction on Haaland scoring just once against Southampton and the City boss came up with a hilarious take. The Spaniard said he was 'unhappy' Haaland didn't manage to get another hat trick in the game and also had a laugh about the viral petition from fans of other Premier League sides to ban Haaland.

“I am so unhappy he didn’t score three goals! That’s why there is a petition to sack him from the Premier League – but now it won’t happen because of that. But, no, it is nice. The expectation is so high that everyone thinks that in every game he should score three or four goals. In the end, he was there to score one, to help us keep the ball and to fight. Erling played really well," said Guardiola.

Though Guardiola's light-hearted comments are not to be taken seriously, it is reflective of the kind of standards Haaland has set since his arrival at City from Borussia Dortmund earlier this summer. He has been a prolific poacher and has rarely spilt a chance while showcasing his incredible finishing instincts.

Haaland had a couple of chances to get on the scoresheet in the first half against Southampton but was not clinical enough. He hit the inside of the post from a pass from Phil Foden before slipping up on a chance created by Kevin De Bruyne for him to score. Haaland had another shot saved by Southampton skipper before finally managing to open his account in the 64th minute.

Kylian Mabppe has reportedly aimed a dig at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) manager Christophe Galtier after his side's disappointing goalless draw against Reims in the Ligue 1 on Sunday. PSG failed to break the deadlock as they ended up dropping points after being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Reims.

Mbappe started the game as the lone striker for PSG as Lionel Messi was out of the game with an injury while Galtier decided to rest Neymar, who has been playing continuously this season. However, the head coach's decision to deploy him as the lone forward up front didn't go down well with Mbappe.

The French striker appeared to be unhappy with the PSG manager's tactics and took to Instagram to post a cryptic message. Mbappe used the hashtag 'Pivot gang' in his Instagram story, which as per reports in the France media, was a dig at Galtier as the French striker has previously hinted he prefers to lead the line with another forward which allows him to operate freely.

It was a poor outing for PSG as they seemed on track to earn a result before experienced centre-back Sergio Ramos was shown a red card for a rough challenge in the 41st minute. Borussia Dortmund's Anthony Modeste headed in a last-gasp equaliser to complete a sensational two-goal comeback and snatch a 2-2 draw against visitors Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga's Der Klassiker on Saturday.

The 34-year-old Modeste, who had faced massive criticism after netting just once in the league following his arrival this season, headed in at the far post with the last touch of the game after also setting up their first goal, to rescue a point and keep Bayern off top spot.

He also snapped Dortmund's eight-game losing run to Bayern in all competitions as the Bavarians ended the match with 10 men after Kingsley Coman was sent off in the 90th minute for a second booking.

Bayern, who face Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League on Wednesday, are on 16 points as many as Dortmund, with Union Berlin and Freiburg, both on 17, in action on Sunday.

"Had we scored that third goal then the game would have been over," Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann said.

"But then we concede a goal out of a not-so-dangerous situation. We definitely should have defended better. The last two or three minutes, with a player less, it was an open game. It is frustrating for us but that's the way it is. Overall it's a fair result."

Goretzka threaded a low shot through a crowded box to open the scoring with Bayern's first chance of the game in a high-intensity encounter in front of a sold-out 81,000 crowd at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund.

Dortmund, who host Sevilla in the Champions League on Tuesday, were equally aggressive but also had only few shots on target in the entire first half, including a clever Raphael Guerreiro effort that tested keeper Manuel Neuer.

The visitors shot out of the blocks after the break and Sadio Mane should have done better with a diving header in front of an empty goal from close range in the 49th.

Leroy Sane quickly made amends in the 53rd for his teammate's miss, unleashing a fierce shot with Dortmund keeper Alexander Meyer getting a hand on the ball but unable to turn it wide.

With Bayern thinking they had done enough to win, 17-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko set up a dramatic finale when he picked up a Modeste pass to beat keeper Neuer and become the youngest scorer in the history of Der Klassiker.

Neuer managed to claw away a Modeste effort on the line in the 83rd but was beaten when the French striker headed in deep in stoppage time.

We definitely should have defended better. The last two or three minutes, with a player less, it was an open game. It is frustrating for us but that's the way it is. Overall it's a fair result." Goretzka threaded a low shot through a crowded box to open the scoring with Bayern's first chance of the game in a high-intensity encounter in front of a sold-out 81,000 crowd at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund. WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

Indonesian president Joko Widodo has said FIFA won't impose any sanctions on the country over the recent stadium disaster which left at least 131 dead and hundreds injured. In one of the worst football tragedies of recent times, fans were crushed to death after a deadly stampede took place at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang, Indonesia.

The tragic incident took place after the game between hosts Arema FC and their bitter rivals Persebaya Surabaya on October 1. Angry Arema FC fans stormed onto the pitch after their 3-2 defeat in the game and some reportedly clashed with the police officers present at the ground.

The police fired tear gas shots to control the crowd which led to a deadly crush at the exit gates. Hundreds were crushed and suffocated due to lack of oxygen while many sustained injuries in the stampede. FIFA president Giani Infantino had earlier called it a 'dark day' for those involved in football.

However, the Indonesian president said that FIFA won't sanction the country's football federation over the incident. He said FIFA and the Indonesian government will collaborate to transform football in the nation. He also stated that FIFA will help Indonesia in establishing safety standards for football stadiums and will also formulate the guidelines on security procedures to be carried out by the police.

"Thank God Indonesian football is not sanctioned by FIFA. Furthermore, FIFA and the Indonesian government will jointly set up a transformation team for Indonesian football, and FIFA will be based in Indonesia during the process," Widodo said in a video message.

"The Indonesian government, AFC and FIFA will collaborate to, firstly, establish safety standards for stadiums in Indonesia, and will formulate standards and protocols for security procedures carried out by the police based on international security standards," he added.

Following the tragic incident, Widodo ordered a probe into the mishap and had temporarily suspended the Indonesian football league until further orders. The Indonesian football federation had revealed that a number of exit games at the stadium were still locked at the time when police used tear gas on fans which led to the stampede.

While two Arema FC supporters have been banned for life, a number of police officers have been suspended. Criminal charges will be brought against six people, including three police officers.

Erling Haaland scored for the 10th game in a row in all club competitions as Manchester City cruised to a 4-0 win at home to Southampton on Saturday to move to the top of the Premier League.

The Norwegian striker had endured a difficult afternoon by his usual prolific standards but eventually got on the scoresheet in the 65th minute to grab City's fourth goal after first-half strikes from Joao Cancelo and Phil Foden plus a volley after the interval from Riyad Mahrez.

The victory took City to the top of the standings on 23 points from nine matches although Arsenal, on 21, can reclaim the lead if they beat Liverpool at home on Sunday.

Southampton, meanwhile, were left 16th on seven points after falling to their fourth consecutive league defeat, piling more pressure on manager Ralph Hasenhuettl.

Haaland went into the game in ruthless form after hitting a hat-trick in last week's 6-3 drubbing of Manchester United and scoring a double in the 5-0 win over Copenhagen in the Champions League.

However, luck evaded him when he narrowly failed to open the scoring in the first half, smashing a shot off the inside of the far post and watching the ball trickle out of the goal.

Haaland later scuffed a shot wide and mistimed a header in the second half, but he was not to be denied, firing a first-time shot into the net after a cut-back from Cancelo to score his 15th league goal of the season and his 20th overall.

Portugal full back Cancelo was City's most active player in the early stages of the game and after seeing several of his crosses come to nothing he took matters into his own hands, rifling a low shot into the net to give the champions the lead in the 20th minute.

Foden doubled their advantage later in the first half with a delightful chip, the England midfielder scoring for the fourth time in two league games after, like Haaland, netting three times in the derby win over United.

Mahrez volleyed in a chipped pass from Rodri to get the third goal early in the second half as City continued to toy with Southampton.

Haaland was in danger of drawing a blank for the first time for City since the 4-0 win over Bournemouth on Aug. 15 but kept his remarkable goal streak going and is now four games away from equalling Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy's record of scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League matches, dating back to 2015.

Kylian Mbappe to Lionel Messi: A look at highest-earning footballers in the world

Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney urged Cristiano Ronaldo to remain patient and make the most of the opportunities that come his way as the Portugal international looks to work his way back into the Premier League club's first team.

Ronaldo, in his second spell at United, has started only one league game this season and was linked with a move away during the summer transfer window, though manager Erik ten Hag said he still featured in his plans for the season.

Rooney, who played with Ronaldo at United between 2004-2009, said the 37-year-old will be finding his lack of game time hard to swallow.

"The manager's obviously gone a different way in terms of how they're playing and been successful," Rooney, who now manages Major League Soccer side DC United, told reporters on Friday.

The Indonesia Police have been accused of firing tear gas into the spectator stands and blocking the gates of the football stadium during the stampede which killed at least 131 people and left hundreds injured.

The witnesses believe that had the police acted swiftly and not blocked the stadium’s exits, they could have minimised the casualties during the chaos.

Several fans who witnessed the riot spoke to Al Jazeera and revealed how the situation had already become tense 15 minutes before the end of the match as it became clear that the home team – Arema Football Club – was losing to arch-rivals Persebaya, a club from nearby Surabaya City.

“Police were 100 per cent to blame”, Fitria Rahmawati, who attended the match in Malang city with her husband and children, told Al Jazeera.

She claimed that the spectators, some of whom were drunk, broke the barricades and stormed into the match after the match ended, prompting the police to counter with the indiscriminate firing of tear gas.

The tear was not only directed at those who invaded the pitch but also at those people who were in the stands, Rahmawati added.

“Why in the hell did they shoot tear gas into the upper grandstand?” she was quoted as saying.

The allegations were supported by another witness, a university student, who came to the match with his seven friends. One of them was killed in the carnage.

“Some fans began chanting racist slurs at Persebaya players so the MC started telling the crowd to be calm and go home early,” Surya was quoted as saying.

“After the siren rang, one fan ran across the field carrying a flag that said ‘You play a s**t game’,” he said.
