Donald Trump said Iran informally offered them the post of Supreme Leader, which he turned down by saying, "No, thank you." Speaking at the annual National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) fundraising dinner on Wednesday (March 25), Trump reportedly said, "There’s never been a head of a country that wanted that job less than being the head of Iran. Trump has gone ‘too far’ with Iran war, 50% American adults have no trust in their president: New Poll

Amid ongoing tensions in the US-Iran war, reports suggest Washington has offered to support Iran’s civilian nuclear energy programme as part of a broader diplomatic proposal aimed at ending the conflict. The reported framework includes lifting certain nuclear-related sanctions and assisting oversight of peaceful nuclear activities in exchange for Iran permanently abandoning nuclear weapons ambitions and scaling back enrichment and missile capabilities.

US-Iran War | Report: US Promises Support for Iran's Civilian Nuclear Energy

Donald Trump, for the whole weekend, was threatening vengeance, issued a 48-hour ultimatum and threatened to bomb all the energy installations if Iran does not open the Strait of Hormuz. Then, around 7:05 am EST on March 23, he took a sudden U-turn, calling for a 5-day truce, suggesting there were productive negotiations with the Iranian administration, a claim denied by Iran several times. If this sudden change in the wind was not malicious enough, US Senator Chris Murphy on Monday drew attention with a social media post that at around 6:50 am EST, $1.5 billion in S&P 500 futures were bought, while according to FT calculations, $580 million in oil futures were sold. He added, “Who was it? Trump? A family member? A White House staffer?” It appeared the so-called “terror regime” in Iran was more credible and reliable than the US President. Also Read: Kuwait airport hit by drone strike, fuel tank catches fire; no closure reported
Was there insider trading?
Allegations of insider trading have surged since the US-Israel began a military campaign against Iran, and claims that people close to the Trump administration have made or placed bets have spread rapidly. An Iranian military spokesman, Ebrahim Zolfaqari, mocked the US, saying it is “negotiating with itself” after Donald Trump claimed Tehran wants a deal. This comes as Washington pushes a 15-point peace plan, while tensions and sharp rhetoric continue.

'People like you...': Iran military slams Trump over peace plan, dismisses negotiation claims — What's happening

US President Donald Trump is facing his most severe domestic crisis since returning to the White House as public approval for his administration craters. According to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Wednesday (Mar 25), Trump's approval rating has plummeted to lowest ever at 36 per cent, driven by a brutal surge in fuel prices and widespread opposition to his ongoing war in Iran. This is down four per cent from last week, when another Reuters/Ipsos poll showed Trump still had 40 per cent support. Now, with gasoline prices jumping $1 per gallon since the February 28 strikes, only 25 per cent of Americans now approve of the President's handling of the cost of living—a core pillar of his 2024 campaign.
61% disapprove of Trump's Iran war
As the Pentagon prepares to send thousands more troops to the Middle East, the poll revealed that Americans are getting increasingly wary of Trump's Iran war. It found that only 35 per cent of people approve of the US strikes on Iran, down from 37 per cent in a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted last week. 61 per cent of citizens now openly disapprove of the military campaign. Also read | Did Patriot missiles down 3 American F-15 jets over Kuwait? Trump says that US-Iran talks are underway, claims war victory and nuclear assurances, while officials stress military pressure behind diplomacy

Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s de facto ruler, has reportedly urged Donald Trump to sustain military operations against Iran, framing the conflict as a rare chance to reshape the regional order. According to individuals briefed by US officials, the crown prince has emphasised in recent discussions that dismantling Iran’s hard-line regime is essential to eliminating a long-term threat to Gulf nations. During multiple conversations over the past week, Prince Mohammed conveyed that halting the campaign prematurely would be a strategic error. He has argued that Iran’s current leadership poses a persistent danger that can only be neutralised through regime change. Benjamin Netanyahu shares concerns about Iran’s threat, but analysts suggest Israel might accept a weakened or internally unstable Iran as a favourable outcome. In contrast, Saudi Arabia fears that a collapsed Iranian state could trigger chaos and pose direct security risks. Iran may intensify retaliatory strikes on Saudi oil infrastructure, and the United States risks becoming entangled in a drawn-out war. Public messaging from President Trump has been inconsistent. He has alternated between signaling a potential end to hostilities and hinting at escalation. Recently, he claimed that “productive conversations” had taken place with Iran toward resolving tensions, though Tehran denied that negotiations were happening. The stakes for Saudi Arabia are significant, both economically and strategically. Iranian missile and drone attacks in response to US-Israeli operations have already disrupted oil markets. Iran has strongly rejected US President Donald Trump’s assertion that Washington and Tehran are engaged in ‘very good and productive’ talks, calling the claim false and politically motivated after the United States announced a temporary halt to military strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure. The five-day pause, described by Trump as a window for diplomacy, comes amid escalating tensions between the two sides following weeks of threats targeting critical oil and energy facilities. According to the US president, the suspension of planned attacks signals an opportunity to de-escalate and potentially open a path toward negotiations. Also Read: Did Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt push Trump-Iran talks? Rezaei added that Iran views the current US posture as coercive, arguing that “the enemy understands only the language of force and missiles.” His comments reflect a broader hardline stance in Tehran, where leadership has consistently rejected negotiations under military pressure. https://www.wionews.com/videos/us-iran-war-is-trump-looking-for-off-ramp-from-iran-war-1774282506584/embed

The disagreement highlights a widening gap between Washington’s narrative of diplomacy and Tehran’s portrayal of defiance. While Trump has framed the pause as a strategic move to create space for dialogue, Iranian officials and state-linked media have suggested it is instead an attempt to manage rising geopolitical risks and stabilize global oil markets. The timing of the pause is significant. Tensions have surged in and around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical artery for global energy supplies, raising fears of broader disruption. Oil markets have reacted sharply to the developments, with prices showing volatility amid uncertainty over potential strikes and supply risks. Tehran, meanwhile, has portrayed the US decision as a sign of weakness rather than goodwill. Iranian narratives emphasize that sustained military pressure and regional dynamics have forced Washington to reconsider immediate escalation, reinforcing the country’s position that resistance, not negotiation, has shaped the current moment. Notably, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Baghaei said, “Messages from the US, sent via friendly countries to seek talks and end the war, were received and answered in line with Iran’s principles. We warn that any attack on Iran’s critical infrastructure, especially energy facilities, would trigger a swift and decisive response from its armed forces. We dismiss claims of any negotiations with Washington over the past 24 days, and Iran’s position on the Strait of Hormuz and the terms for ending the war remain unchanged.” Disclaimer: WION takes utmost care to accurately and responsibly report ongoing conflicts in West Asia involving Israel, Iran, the US, Gulf nations, and non-state actors like Hezbollah, Hamas, Houthis, Islamic State, and others. 'Only the language of missiles': Iran hits back hard at Donald Trump

Trump: US, Iran Talks Have Major Points of Agreement

A brief window for de-escalation emerged as US President Donald Trump paused strikes on Iran for five days, raising cautious optimism about a possible peace effort. The pause comes as the conflict enters its fourth week, with reports indicating that Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey are actively working behind the scenes to mediate between the two sides. According to a report by Axios, which cited an unnamed US official, these three countries have been facilitating indirect communication between Washington and Tehran over the past two days. Their diplomatic efforts reportedly involve relaying messages in an attempt to move both sides toward a resolution. The report added that the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey have each held separate discussions with White House envoy Steve Witkoff as well as Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. "The mediation is ongoing and making progress. The discussion is about ending the war and resolving all outstanding issues. We hope to have answers soon," a source familiar with the developments said. Also Read: 'Will keep bombing our little hearts out if...': Trump on ending Iran war, or not Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty also engaged in a series of calls on Sunday with Witkoff, Araghchi, and his counterparts from Pakistan, Turkey, and Qatar. He described his interactions with Iran as "very good and productive," making the announcement just hours before a previously indicated 48-hour escalation deadline. However, Iran has pushed back against claims that talks are underway. The Iranian news agency Mehr reported that the country’s Foreign Ministry dismissed Trump’s remarks, suggesting they are intended to buy time for US military strategy and ease pressure on energy markets. https://www.wionews.com/videos/iran-threatens-strait-of-hormuz-closure-warns-gulf-shipping-could-be-disrupted-1774277092942/embed At the same time, Mehr acknowledged that regional actors are attempting to reduce tensions.
