A Reuters/Ipsos poll has found that President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen in recent days to its lowest point since he returned to the White House in January, 2025. The widespread disapproval of the war he launched on Iran is the one statistic that stands out.

The survey found that 61% disapproved of the strikes on Iran, compared to 59% last week. Only 35% of Americans approve of the US strikes on Iran. This is down from 37% in a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted last week.

In the ongoing US‑Iran war, Donald Trump said Iran is now looking for a deal even as he pressed Tehran to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, jokingly referring to it as the “Strait of Trump.” Trump framed this as part of diplomatic talks amid global pressure to end the conflict while insisting Iran must meet US conditions first.

To be clear: no evidence of intelligent extraterrestrial life has ever been produced. The Pentagon released a report in March 2024 concluding it had found no proof that unidentified aerial phenomena were of alien origin. The vast majority of reported sightings, the report found, turned out to be weather balloons, spy planes, satellites, or other entirely mundane explanations.

US-Iran War: US President Says Strikes Paused for 10 Days at Iran's Request

US President Donald Trump has postponed his deadline for potential strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure until April 6, saying the delay came at Tehran’s request and emphasising that negotiations are progressing positively. Earlier, Trump had dismissed suggestions that he was eager to secure a deal to end the Middle East conflict, even as Iran responded cautiously to a US-backed peace proposal. "Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. Initially, Trump had issued a 48-hour ultimatum last Saturday, demanding Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz to oil tankers or face destruction of its power facilities. Since then, the deadline has been extended twice. "As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 pm, Eastern Time," he posted. US envoy Steve Witkoff told a cabinet meeting that there were “strong signs” Iran might be willing to negotiate.

He also revealed for the first time that Washington had sent a 15-point proposal to Tehran through Pakistani intermediaries. "We will see where things lead, and if we can convince Iran that this is the inflection point with no good alternatives for them, other than more death and destruction," Witkoff said. Iran’s Tasnim news agency reported that Tehran had formally responded to the US proposal via intermediaries and is now awaiting Washington’s reply. Also Read: 'Pakistan acting as intermediary between US-Iran negotiations', confirms Witkoff According to the report, Iran’s response demands an end to US and Israeli strikes on its territory and on allied groups in the region, including Hezbollah. It also calls for war reparations and recognition of Iran’s authority over the Strait of Hormuz, conditions that significantly exceed what the US has proposed.

Military and political tensions rise
During a televised White House meeting, Trump alternated between issuing strong warnings and suggesting Iran was close to conceding. US President Donald Trump launched a blistering critique of the United Kingdom’s military contribution to the ongoing Iran conflict during a cabinet briefing in Washington DC. Addressing the Middle East operations, Trump described Britain’s aircraft carriers as “toys compared to what we have,” questioning the nation’s readiness and commitment to support US-led efforts. He added, “We had the UK say that we’ll send – this is three weeks ago – we’ll send our aircraft carriers, which aren’t the best aircraft carriers, by the way, they’re toys compared to what we have. But we’ll send our aircraft carrier when the war is over. I said, oh, that’s wonderful, thank you very much. Don’t bother, we don’t need it. We don’t need it, and we don’t need them.”
Frustration With NATO
Trump again criticised to NATO allies, accusing the alliance of inaction amid US and Israeli strikes on Iran. “One thing — we’re very disappointed, I’ll say it publicly — we are very disappointed with NATO, because NATO has done absolutely nothing”, he said. Earlier, in a Truth Social post, he wrote, “NATO nations have done absolutely nothing to help with the lunatic nation, now militarily decimated, of Iran. The U.S.A. needs nothing from NATO.” He emphasised that, despite Washington’s ongoing operations, allied support has been largely symbolic, reflecting tensions over multinational engagement in a conflict the US initiated without consulting its partners. ALSO READ: What will end the Iran war? We don’t need it, and we don’t need them.” Frustration With NATO Trump again criticised to NATO allies, accusing the alliance of inaction amid US and Israeli strikes on Iran.
