Trump Organization's former chief financial officer (CFO) Allen Weisselberg on Monday (Mar 4) pleaded guilty to perjury in connection with Donald Trump's New York civil fraud case. Weisselberg, 76, pleaded guilty to two perjury counts through his lawyer Seth Rosenberg at a hearing before Judge Laurie Peterson in a Manhattan criminal court hearing, the news agency Reuters reported.

Judge Peterson said that Weisselber would be sentenced to five months in prison. According to prosecutor Gary Fishman, the perjury charges stem from his testimony in the civil fraud trial against Trump and an earlier deposition in that case.

In October last year, Weisselberg said on the witness stand that he was not involved in an incorrect valuation of Trump's Manhattan penthouse. However, Forbes later published a report accusing Weisselberg of lying on the stand.&nbsp;

In a statement, Weisselberg's lawyer Seth Rosenberg said, "Allen Weisselberg looks forward to putting this situation behind him."

The 76-year-old had previously served 100 days in jail last year after pleading guilty to dodging taxes on $1.7 million in off-the-books compensation from the Trump Organization.&nbsp;

According to a report by the news agency Reuters, the justices unanimously reversed a December 19 decision by Colorado's top court to kick Trump off the state's Republican primary ballot on Tuesday after finding that the Constitution's 14th Amendment disqualified him from again holding public office.

The 14th Amendment's Section 3 bars from office any "officer of the United States" who took an oath "to support the Constitution of the United States" and then "engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof."

"We conclude that states may disqualify persons holding or attempting to hold state office. But states have no power under the Constitution to enforce Section 3 with respect to federal offices, especially the presidency," the unsigned opinion for the court stated.

Following the court's ruling, Trump said on his social media platform Truth Social, "Big win for America."

In Colorado, Trump's eligibility was challenged by six voters who portrayed him as a threat to American democracy and sought to hold him accountable for the Capitol Hill riots. This group of voters included four Republicans and two independents.

In its ruling against Trump, Colorado's Supreme Court cited the general atmosphere of political violence that he created as president, and that he aided "the insurrectionists' common unlawful purpose of preventing the peaceful transfer of power in this country."

In a dramatic moment, as the 2024 presidential campaign gathers steam, both current United States President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump visited the southern border on Thursday (Feb 29).&nbsp;

The two presidential election candidates visited the border to address the issue which has for decades confounded the administrations of both parties - immigration.

Moments after Trump started speaking in Eagle Pass, Biden got a briefing regarding the issue from the border officials.&nbsp;

Later, Biden thanked border agents and stated that he would get them more resources “come hell or high water".

Making a direct appeal to Trump, Biden asked him to jointly appeal the Congress to pass the bill, which was tanked after it was opposed by Trump and his allies.

"I understand my predecessor is in Eagle Pass today. What I would say to Mr Trump, instead of playing policy with this issue, instead of telling members of Congress to block this legislation, join me or I'll join you in telling the Congress to pass this bipartisan border security bill," Biden said.&nbsp;

"We can do it together, you know, and I know it's the toughest, most efficient, most effective border security bill this country's ever seen. So, instead of playing politics with the issue, why don't we just get together and get it done," he added.

Judge Aileen Cannon discussed several issues still unresolved, including setting the trial date and deciding whether to allow the former president to make public the identity of government investigators.

The hearing started at 10 am EST (8:30 pm IST) and continued in presence of Donald Trump.

<h2>Trial date</h2>

In filings submitted Thursday night (Feb 29), special counsel Jack Smith's office suggested to push back the trial date to July 8, whereas Trump’s side demanded the date be pushed back to August 12. Trump’s attorneys also floated the proposal to push the trial back until the November elections take place.

"A fair trial cannot be held until after the 2024&nbsp;<a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/world-news/donald-trump-spends-76-million-on-attorneys-as-legal-troubles-mount-ahead-of-us-presidential-elections-101706936716655.html" target="_blank">Presidential election</a>&nbsp;is concluded," Trump said in the court filing.

"As the leading candidate in the 2024 election, President Trump strongly asserts that a fair trial cannot be conducted this year in a manner consistent with the Constitution, which affords President Trump a Sixth Amendment right to be present and to participate in these proceedings" and "a First Amendment right that he shares with the American people to engage in campaign speech," they wrote.

Earlier during a November hearing, Judge Cannon suggested delaying the trial, referring to complaints from Trump’s side about the amount of discovery and documents that his legal team will have to review.

Trump welcomed the decision of the apex court and took to his social media platform to praise the bench.&nbsp;

"Without Presidential Immunity, a President will not be able to properly function, or make decisions, in the best interest of the United States of America," he said in a post on his Truth Social platform. "He must not be guided by the fear of retribution!"

<h2>What happens next?</h2>

If the court does indeed give the green light for a trial in the case, Trump will not have the ability to muster&nbsp;additional appeals to slow down this case.&nbsp;

Currently, Trump is the leading Republican candidate to secure the nomination and set up a repeat of the 2020 prez race.&nbsp;

<h2>Why is Williamson ‘unsuspending’ her campaign?</h2>

“Hey, I have an important announcement to make. As of today, I am unsuspending my campaign for the presidency of the United States,” Williamson said in a video posted on X. She also went on to admit that she dropped out because “I was losing the horse race.”

The announcement also came after the Michigan primary election results where Biden and his predecessor Donald Trump easily won their respective primaries.&nbsp;

Notably, Williamson, despite dropping out of the race, edged out Representative Dean Phillips (Democrat-Minnesota) and secured third place in the Michigan Democratic primary.&nbsp;

She received around three per cent of the votes when compared to Phillips’ 2.7 per cent. Whereas Biden secured 81.1 per cent of the votes.&nbsp;

She also went on to criticise Biden’s economic policies at length and how they only benefit a small part of the US population and argued that “we need a president” who will eliminate student loan debt, provide Medicare for all, and so on.&nbsp;

<h2>‘Juggernaut of dark vision’</h2>

In her video, the writer and progressive Democrat said that people tell her “you’re delusional”.&nbsp;

“I’ll tell you what’s delusional…closing our eyes and crossing our fingers and just hoping that somehow Biden and Harris will be able to beat that juggernaut of dark, dark vision,” Williamson said referring to Trump.&nbsp;
