Canadian PM Justin Trudeau has reiterated that there are "credible reasons" to believe that Indian agents may have been behind the murder of a Sikh separatist on Canadian soil.

US Confirms intel sharing made Canada allege India's role

In order to stop them from entering India, the government gave the investigative agencies instructions on Sunday to locate all terrorists who identify as Khalistani in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia and to cancel their OCI cards.

This week, India, Canada relations hit an all-time low with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleging that Ottawa was 'actively pursuing credible allegations' linking Indian agents to the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India says Trudeau's claims are politically motivated. Canada and India have expelled each other's diplomats, issued travel advisories, and also suspended visa services. What does this mean for Indians living in Canada? Listen in to Vikram Chandra.

Canada accuses India of involvement in Nijjar's death

Why is Canada's Trudeau Provoking India?

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday called on India to cooperate with an investigation into the murder of a Sikh separatist leader in British Columbia and said Canada would not release its evidence.

Canada's unsubstantiated allegations on India

Amidst escalating diplomatic tensions between India and Canada regarding Ottawa's accusations on Hardeep Singh Nijjar killing case, a former Pentagon official has severely criticised Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for making unfounded allegations against New Delhi.

Reacting to Canada's accusations against India, former Pentagon official and a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, Michael Rubin, stated that Canada lacks sufficient evidence to support its claims.

He suggested that Trudeau might have made hasty allegations without substantial proof and urged him to clarify why his government was providing shelter to a "terrorist with a criminal record." Rubin went on to say that most probably Justin Trudeau won't be there for long in premiership, and the US can get rebuild its relationship with Canada after he's gone.

"Prime Minister Trudeau I think has made a huge mistake. He has made allegations in a manner which he hasn't been able to back. Either he was shooting from the hip and he doesn't have the evidence to support the accusations he made against the government. There is something there, in which case he needs to explain why this government was sheltering a terrorist," the former Pentagon official said.

NIA confiscates SFJ chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannu’s properties in Amritsar and Chandigarh

As tensions continue to brew between India and Canada over the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Indian authorities have prepared a detailed dossier with the Khalistani terrorist's links to militant organisations.

In Pics | Indian intelligence dossier outlines Nijjar’s chronology of terror and violence

India on Thursday suspended new visas for Canadians and asked Ottawa to reduce its diplomatic presence in the country, sharply escalating a spat triggered by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's accusations linking New Delhi to a Sikh separatist's murder.

Dossier: Nijjar was associated with banned terrorist organisations

David Eby, the premier of British Columbia province in Canada has said in a press conference that the information provided to him by the Justin Trudeau-led federal government regarding India’s involvement in Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s murder is all ‘open source information’, that is available on internet.

The video of the British Columbia premier has gone viral on social media.

British Columbia Premier David Eby expressed strong suspicions that the federal government led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is “holding back information that could help the province protect its residents with connections to India from foreign interference."

Eby also disclosed that Canadian Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc talked about Ottawa's intention to provide necessary details for the province's residents' safety.

The video of the British Columbia premier has gone viral on social media. British Columbia Premier David Eby expressed strong suspicions that the federal government led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is “holding back information that could help the province protect its residents with connections to India from foreign interference." Eby also disclosed that Canadian Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc talked about Ottawa's intention to provide necessary details for the province's residents' safety. India-Canada row: BC Premier accuses Trudeau govt of withholding information on Nijjar’s murder

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has said that the Biden administration is in touch with Indian officials following unsubstantiated claims by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that "Indian government agents" were involved in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia.

His briefing came even as it was reported that visiting US President Joe Biden discussed the matter with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his trip to New Delhi earlier this month to attend the G20 Summit.

Briefing the reporters on Thursday (Sept 21), Sullivan said Washington believes in its principles, regardless of what country is affected, while responding to a question about whether the US is concerned over the allegations.

"It is a matter of concern for us. It is something we take seriously. It is something we will keep working on, and we will do that regardless of the country," Sullivan told reporters at the White House.

"There's not some special exemption you get for actions like this. Regardless of the country, we will stand up and defend our basic principles and we will also consult closely with allies like Canada as they pursue their law enforcement and diplomatic process."

Biden talked with Modi on Nijjar killing during G20

US President Joe Biden, among other leaders, expressed concerns to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Canada's claims that New Delhi was involved in the killing of separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, during the G20 Summit earlier this month, a Financial Times report has claimed.

Citing three people familiar with the discussions at the summit, the publication said several members of the Five Eyes - an intelligence-sharing alliance of US, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, raised the issue with PM Modi. The report added that Biden "felt it was important to raise the issue directly with his Indian counterpart".

"The leaders intervened at the G20 summit after Canada urged its allies to raise the case directly with Modi, said two people familiar with the situation, who added Ottawa asked them to mention the claims in private," the report claimed.

Up until the last update, neither did the White House confirm the veracity of the report, nor did New Delhi issue any statement that the matter was raised during the summit.

Experts say that even if Biden did raise the issue at G20, the fact that Washington has refrained from getting in on the controversy so far, suggests that Ottawa was left hanging.

Notably, a Washington Post report published earlier this week stated that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had asked his closest allies, including the US, to publicly condemn the Sikh separatist's killing, but the requests were turned down. The report did not mention the G20 summit and whether it was the place where Washington was made aware of the allegations.

Canada's Justin Trudeau makes big statement on Khalistan row with India | Ignores Indian reporters

Khalistani terror organisation leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, whose death has sparked a row between India and Canada, was granted Canadian citizenship months after a Red Corner Notice (RCN) was issued against him.

It is pertinent to note that after an RCN is issued by Interpol, a country is bound to arrest and deport the accused back to his/her homeland. However, Canada did not do so in Nijjar's case.

As per reports, during talks with Canada, the Indian government had raised concerns over Nijjar's citizenship being approved by the authorities, months after the very first Red Corner Notice was issued against him on November 14, 2014.

The first RCN was issued after a case (FIR No. 159) was registered against Nijjar at the Kotwali police station, Patiala, by the Punjab Police. The second RCN was issued in FIR No. 19 lodged at the Nurpur police station, Ropar, in 2016, reported The Tribune.

Meanwhile, Canada’s Immigration Minister Marc Miller took to social media platform X, on Tuesday (September 19), and shared a post saying Nijjar was granted citizenship on March 3, 2015. Later he stated that the Khalistani terrorist became a Canadian citizen on May 25, 2007.
