We are extremely proud of the fact that we are the first female group deputed to protect the borders. We received special training and were provided with the best equipment and gear. We have special snow shoes, jackets to protect us from the cold at&nbsp;high altitude. We also trained with doctors who guided us about living in such extreme weather. We were given special arms training as well. We specially trained in patrolling, ambush as well as night patrolling," said Mangal Dongre, a soldier.

Kashmir Valley has been going through the longest dry spell this winter, with no snow even in high altitude areas. The infiltration routes along the LoC are open this winter and this makes it more challenging for security forces. Forces have inputs that Pakistan-based terror launch pads are active and terrorist commanders are trying to push more and more terrorists into the Kashmir Valley.&nbsp;

The security along the LoC has been tightened and patrolling frequency increased.

In recent months, security forces have arrested dozens of women carrying arms and ammunition as well as narcotics from the bordering areas into the hinterland. Female soldiers may have an advantage to tackle such security situations.

"Women are equal to men. They have excelled in every sphere and career. They work shoulder-to-shoulder with us and we are proud. It also makes things easier for us as we faced problems in the bordering areas where our naka points had no women to check the women OGWs. It becomes easier and will help in stopping the issue of carrying narcotics and arms and ammunition by women. Female soldiers are given exactly the same training as men and they have been provided with same equipment, gear and training as ours. They can easily guard the borders as they have the latest arms and equipment. They are doing a great job with us," said Naresh Kumar, BSF Officer.&nbsp;

BSF has plans to deploy more female soldiers in forward posts on the LoC by July 2023.

The Indian soldier noticed the group of unidentified individuals, engaging in suspicious activities and approached them. "When the jawan confronted the smugglers, they, realising that he was alone, surrounded him and attacked him using sharp-edged sickles," a BSF official stated. Upon being attacked, the soldier engaged in self-defence and retaliated by opening fire. Consequently, one of the attackers, who turned out to be a BGB sepoy, suffered injuries. The rest of the attackers utilised the heavy fog in the area to evade the Indian soldier and managed to hop over to the other side of the fence with the cattle. After the incident, during a flag meeting, BGB informed BSF that one of its personnel was missing and suspected he had crossed into the Indian side. "Hearing the sound of fire, other jawans reached the spot and immediately removed the injured man and got him admitted to a government hospital in Bongaon, where he died during treatment. During a thorough search, one animal and some sharp weapons were found at the site," BSF said. "Upon identification from a photograph, it was known that the deceased man was Mohammad Riyasudin, serving as a sepoy in BGB, and was moving with cattle smugglers," it added. Additionally, BSF apprised the Ministry of External Affairs and Bangladesh High Commission in Kolkata of the incident. Bangladeshi sepoy ‘disguised as cattle smuggler’ shot dead by BSF in West Bengal

Adnan Ahmed, considered to be a close aide of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder and 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed, was shot dead in Pakistan’s Karachi city.

Ahmed, a former councillor, belonged to the Milli Muslim League, the political front of LeT. He is believed to be the mastermind of the 2015 terror attack on the Border Security Force (BSF) convoy in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur.

According to reports, unknown gunmen killed Ahmed outside his home on the intervening night of December 2 and December 3.

Ahmed was later rushed to nearby Abbasi Shaheed Hospital by a local rescue team, but he succumbed to his injuries.

The hospital later confirmed the identity of the deceased to be Adnan s/o Zaheer.

Notably, this is the 12th mysterious death and/or killing of anti-India elements in Pakistan this year alone.

Security forces have inputs that terrorists might try to sneak in from across the border to disrupt peace in Jammu and Kashmir.

In the last one month, around a dozen infiltration bids have been foiled by the security forces on the LoC and International border. Half a dozen terrorists have been killed during these infiltration attempts.

In North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the whole of LoC is covered with dense forest giving an edge to the terror groups to infiltrate into the Kashmir territory and this district sees the highest number of infiltration&nbsp;attempts by terrorists from across the border.

Border security forces posted on one of the forward posts in North Kashmir have been guarding the borders day and night and making sure that no such infiltration attempt is successful. And to guard the higher reaches of the Line of Control, Border Security Force trains soldiers not only to acclimatise with the environment but also to become agile in the Himalayan mountain ranges.

WION’s team reached the border area to get a first-hand account of the training provided to the soldiers of BSF. The training includes how to tackle an attack, ambush, encounter, hostage situation and infiltration from across the border.

“We are always ready to deal with the enemy. We have got the latest surveillance technology here and everything is in place to neutralize any threat that comes our way,” said Udham Kuhad, Commanding Officer, BSF, Kupwara, North Kashmir.

The Border Security forces deployed at the forward locations close to LoC are keeping a continuous vigil to secure the borders. Apart from using the new high-tech surveillance equipment, patrolling is done four times during the day in these higher reaches.

Cordon and aearch operations are carried out to sanitise the areas close to LoC. The smuggling of narcotics is also one of the major challenges for the security forces in North Kashmir. The money which is being generated via the drug trade is used to fuel terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

To keep the troopers motivated and physically&nbsp;and mentally fit in war-like situations is one of the toughest tasks. And at this location, BSF has found a way, the troopers are undergoing a rigorous morning training session every day which keeps them physically fit and mentally strong. While one group are engaged in activities the other one cheers for them. The BSF soldiers also want countrymen to be at peace as they are protecting the borders.

The security forces posted in Jammu and Kashmir, many a time face hostage situations during encounters and attacks. And special training is being given to the soldiers of the BSF to tackle the situation without harming the hostages.

“I&nbsp;want to tell my countrymen to have faith in us and we will deliver. We want all the countrymen to live without fear and just work on making India's economy better and rest we will take care of,”&nbsp;said Udham Kuhad, Commanding Officer, BSF, Kupwara, North Kashmir.

The government has provided the security forces with the latest and best equipment. The soldiers are training with these latest arms and ammunition too. In an 80 mm mortar shelling launcher, they just have to push in the coordinates of the location which they want to blast and with just a push button, they can carry out the attack. It has a range of around 5km, and training soldiers with accuracy is done on a daily basis as well.

India's Border Security Force (BSF) said on Wednesday that a forensic analysis of a drone shot down last year revealed that it was earlier flown in China as well as in Pakistan, India-based news agency ANI reported.&nbsp;

BSF troops shot down the drone when it entered India from the Pakistan side and intruded into the Indian territory near the Border Outpost Rajatal in Amritsar Sector at about 7.45pm (IST) on December 25, 2022.&nbsp;

BSF troops fired at the drone and it&nbsp;fell down. It was sent to BSF headquarters for forensic analysis after the officials recovered it lying in farming fields.&nbsp;

It apparently flew at various other locations 28 times within the Khanewal area in Pakistan between September 24, 2022, and December 25, 2022.&nbsp;

The government of India is building "permanent vertical bunkers" for stationing BSF troops at the strategic location of Sir Creek and 'Harami Nalla' marshy area, close to the India-Pakistan International Border in Gujarat, said the official sources.&nbsp;

A Rs 50-crore fund has been approved by the Union Home Ministry for building the eight multi-storeyed bunkers cum observation posts keeping in mind the "constant infiltration of Pakistani fishermen and fishing boats in the area", said the sources to India-based news agency PTI.

As per the official information, 22 Pakistani fishermen were apprehended by the Border Security Force (BSF) and 79 fishing boats were seized along with heroin worth Rs 250 crore and charas worth Rs 2.49 crore from Gujarat in 2022.

The sources stated that three pylon-shaped towers are being built in the Sir Creek area, and the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) will construct five such structures in a 4,050 sq km marshy area between the two countries and the 'harami nalla' area, which is spread across 900 sq km of area.

The officials stated that space will be provided at the top floor of every 42-foot high 'vertical bunker' for placing surveillance gadgets and radars to monitor the area that includes serpentine estuaries. The rest two floors of the bunkers will have the capacity to include 15 armed BSF personnel as well as their logistics, they said.

The officials said that the bunkers are being built in the Lakhpat Wari bet, Dafa bet and Samudra bet which fall on the eastern side of the creek, within the territory of India.&nbsp;

BSF fires at suspected Pakistani drone along international border in Jammu

An Indian border security officer opened fire at his colleagues and then shot himself dead on Sunday morning in Punjab’s Amritsar, officials said.

Among those who were shot at, 5 have died while&nbsp;7 were injured and admitted to a local hospital. One of the injured is said to be in critical condition.

The incident took place at a mess in the Border Security Force camp in the Khasa area, about 20 km short of the Attari-Wagah border crossing along the India-Pakistan international front.

The incident took place between 9.30 am&nbsp;and 9.45 am&nbsp;when constable Sateppa SK&nbsp;allegedly used his service rifle and pumped bullets on of his colleagues, an officer said.

“In an unfortunate incident, 5 BSF troops were injured on March 6, due to fratricide committed by Ct Satteppa SK at HQ 144 Bn Khasa, Amritsar. Ct Satteppa SK was also injured in the incident. Out of the 6 injured, 5, including Ct Satteppa, have lost their lives. One of the injured is critical. A court of inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the facts,” BSF officials said in a statement.

The victims include personnel in the ranks of constable and head constable.
