<p>Border Security Force (BSF`s) pilot Wing Commander (retd) JS Sangwan, who is facing criminal charges for impersonating his senior to fly the incumbent Union Home Minister Amit Shah`s plane, has tendered resignation from the services.</p>

<p>Sources in the BSF said that Sangwan had filed his resignation in the first week of September which cannot be accepted as he has a pending, ongoing departmental enquiry against him.</p>

<p>"Till the time his enquiry is pending, the decision on his resignation cannot be taken," a senior BSF official said.</p>

<p>"The accused pilot had asked few questions which have been addressed appropriately by BSF," another BSF official claimed.</p>

<p>Sangwan, who was posted in the BSF air wing is a Kargil war veteran.</p>

<p>Sources in BSF claimed that accused pilot has submitted a petition seeking voluntary resignation from the services with effect from October 31.</p>

<p>He had sent the petition twice, first on September 2 and then on September 16.</p>

<p>According to reports, throughout June and July, engineering and construction firm Larsen and Toubro (L&amp;T) received a series of emails from the BSF Air Wing, which flies Shah, requesting Sangwan be given a chance to fly L&amp;T flights.</p>

<p>According to the complaint against Sangwan, the emails claimed that the pilot had nearly 4000 hours of flying experience.</p>

<p>The fraud unfolded when L&amp;T contacted BSF a couple of days before he was scheduled to fly aboard with Shah.</p>

<p>A complaint in the matter was handed over in this regard to the Domestic Airport police station which is under investigation while an internal enquiry was also launched by the BSF.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Despite repeated calls for restraint and adherence to the 2003 ceasefire understanding for maintaining peace and tranquillity at Indo-Pak flag meetings, the truce has been repeatedly violated.</p>

<p>The Deputy Inspector General, Sector BSF Ferozepur directed field commanders to maintain extra vigil on the border to thwart the attempts of anti-national elements. Tactical operations are being mounted to foil the attempts of the smugglers.</p>

<p>According to an official statement, this year, the BSF has seized 221.3 kg of heroin (including today`s seizure) on the Punjab Border and 435 grams of opium while 66 people have been held for illegally crossing the border and five smugglers have been apprehended.</p>

<p>"As many as 31 Pakistani SIM cards were recovered by the BSF, while five two Pakistani smugglers were apprehended. Furthermore, two Pakistani smugglers were interdicted. Apart from this, 10 mobile phones from Pakistan were seized," the statement further said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Around 19 different types of weapons have been seized, while 502 rounds of ammunition of various calibres have been recovered by the BSF so far.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Home Minister Rajnath Singh celebrated Dussehra with BSF jawans and performed 'shastra puja' in the&nbsp;forward post along the highly sensitive Indo-Pak border in Bikaner, Rajasthan on Friday.</p>

<p>'Shastra puja' is part of the Dussehra festival which is celebrated to mark the victory of Lord Ram over the demon king Ravana.</p>

<p>Addressing the BSF personnel, the home minister praised the multi-dimensional role of the BSF in guarding the Indo-Pak and Indo-Bangladesh borders, maintaining law and order in internal disturbances and tackling the Left Wing Extremism.</p>

<p>Referring to the regular firing from across the border in Jammu and Kashmir, Singh said Pakistan, despite being a neighbour, never exercised good neighbourly behaviour and instead sponsoring terrorism.</p>

<p>The home minister said that recently launched 'smart fence' pilot project, which entails deploying laser-activated fences and technology-enabled barriers to plug vulnerable gaps along borders, will help the border guarding forces in maintaining peace in forward areas.</p>

<p>The project was launched along Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Kashmir while it will be implemented along the Indo-Bangla border in Dhubri, Assam, next month, Singh said.</p>

<p>During the two-day visit, the home minister interacted with the family members of the BSF personnel and attended a feast with the jawans, another official said.</p>

<p>Singh also visited the family of a BSF jawan, who is currently posted in Jammu and Kashmir, and enquired about their wellbeing.</p>

<p>Later, the home minister reviewed the situation on the border and assessed the progress in various infrastructure projects.</p>

Jammu and Kashmir: 4 BSF personnel killed in ceasefire violation by Pakistan

<p>Home Minister <a href="http://wionews.com/india-news/after-cross-border-firing-rajnath-singh-to-visit-jk-to-review-security-142058">Rajnath Singh will be visiting</a> Jammu and Kashmir(J&K) just days after his previous visit as the government keeps a close eye on the security situation in the state.</p>

<p>Reiterating&nbsp;foreign minister Sushma Swaraj's view, defence minister <a href="Commanders of BSF, Pakistan Rangers meet, say peace along border 'likely'">Nirmala Sitharaman said today</a> that talks and terror can't go together, in reference to cross-border terror attacks.</p>

<p>Addressing a press conference, Sitharam said the government had consulted with the Indian Army about the ceasefire.</p>

<p>India had announced a ceasefire in J&K over Ramzan, a move which was applauded by the Mehbooba government.</p>

<p>"We respect the ceasefire," Sitharaman said, adding that India "won't stop if provoked."</p>

<p>India and Pakistan troops exchanged fire on Sunday leading to the death of 2 BSF soldiers on Sunday after agreeing to the 2003 ceasefire agreement.</p>

<p>"We will respond if Pakistan does not honour the ceasefire," the defence minister&nbsp;added.</p>

<p>On the state of India's defence forces,&nbsp;Sitharaman said maximum defence spending in a decade had happened last year.</p>

<p>"There is no real cash crush for the forces," she said.</p>

No respite in border firing, will be constrained to revoke ceasefire: MoS Home Hansraj Ahir

<p>Commanders of the BSF and the Pakistan Rangers met in Jammu and Kashmir Monday evening.&nbsp;The meeting had been requested by Pakistan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The BSF PRO said the "meeting went off in a conducive atmosphere with prime focus to maintain peace and tranquility on border".</p>

<p>There has been very little peace on the border in recent days with both India and Pakistan reporting ceasefire violations virtually every day.&nbsp;</p>
