The India vs Australia clash in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is all set to shatter records left, right and center as fans are expected to flood the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. A crowd of 110, 000 fans are set to attend the Day 1 of the Ahmedabad Test while that number is expected to rise to 132, 000. The Test match in Ahmedabad will have a bearing on the Indian side as they will try to secure a place in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) with a win.

<h3>Record crowd to be in attendance</h3>

The fourth Test between India and Australia could be played in front of a possible record crowd in Ahmedabad. The largest attendance for a single day of Test cricket is 91,112 - a record set during the fourth game between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the 2013-14 Ashes series.

But that tally could be shattered at the 132,000 capacity Ahmedabad stadium, named after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will attend the first day's play on Thursday (March 8) along with his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese. More than 110,000 people are expected on the opening day at the world's largest cricket stadium.

"It's a really exciting opportunity for us this week to play some really good cricket. We are 2-1 up in the series and we'd like to maintain that or certainly try to go one better. Obviously (we will) try and see if we can seal the World Test Championship qualification on our own and not have to rely on other people,” Indian coach Rahul Dravid said while addressing the contest.

"Whatever the wicket is, it honestly doesn't matter. There is just a lot of talk about pitches all the time. It is the same for both teams. Sometimes it does get more challenging. It is more challenging for the bowlers at times…it is more challenging for the batsmen at times. You know wickets are like that, whatever it is, we have to learn to play on them. We have to learn to adjust and you know we have played on some challenging wickets overseas as well whenever we go. I mean (we have) played on some wickets in South Africa recently where the spinner was completely taken out of the game. So like I said, everyone is trying to produce wickets that eventually you want results in these games."

IND vs AUS 4th Test: Record fans set to attend India vs Australia Test in Ahmedabad

Steve Smith, Australia's stand-in captain in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series, is looking forward to a new 'game of chess' as the visitors gear up for the fourth and final Test scheduled to be played in Ahmedabad from March 9.

"It's a game of chess, every ball means something," said Smith after the Indore victory, which followed India's wins in Nagpur and Delhi.

"It's good to just move people and try to make the batter do something different and just play&nbsp;games with them," Smith said after the Indore triumph.

"It's probably my favourite place in the world to captain."&nbsp;

Australia captain Pat Cummins has remained at home because of a family illness, leaving his deputy Smith with another chance to pit his wits against India in the subcontinent, something he clearly relishes.

India, after losing the last Test by nine-wickets, will also be aiming to bounce back to tray and secure their berth in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final, to be played in England in June. The hosts currently lead the four-match series 2-1 and a 3-1 series win will put them into the WTC final, again against Australia.

Australia clinched their place in the showpiece with their nine-wicket third Test win, completed before lunch on the third day on a treacherous Indore track.

India and Australia's prime ministers are scheduled to attend on Thursday where another sharply turning wicket is expected at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the world's largest cricket ground with a capacity of 132,000.

Joe Root's England were thrashed there twice two years ago, including inside two days in a day-night game, the shortest completed Test since 1935.

<h2>'Too much' pitch talk</h2>

Despite the local Gujarat Cricket Association's assurances of a "normal pitch", both sides are again expected to pick three spinners, though India may opt for the wrist-spin of Kuldeep Yadav instead of Axar Patel, who has taken only one wicket in the series.

India may also strengthen their batting by dropping a seam bowler and bringing in the explosive Suryakumar Yadav.

Australia's spinners Nathan Lyon and Matthew Kuhnemann took full advantage of an Indore pitch officially rated as "poor" by the match referee to give Australia only their second Test victory on Indian soil since 2004.

Kuhnemann took five wickets and Lyon three as India were rolled for 109 in their first innings after opting to bat.

Usman Khawaja's 60 in a 96-run stand with Marnus Lasuschagne helped Australia to an 88-run lead, despite a late collapse from 186-4 to 197 all out.

Lyon ripped through with 8-64 as India made 163 in their second innings, before Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne&nbsp;chased down the 76-run target with ease.

India captain Rohit Sharma said he was fed up with the constant focus on the playing surfaces and wanted to focus instead on some exceptional bowling performances.

"This pitch talk is getting too much," he said after the Indore Test. "Every time we play in India it's always about the pitch.

"Out of the 10 wickets maybe one or two where the pitch did help the bowler, but other than that it was the skill of the bowler that foxed the batsman".

IND vs AUS 4th Test: PM Modi to attend Day 1 of Ahmedabad Test with Australian PM Anthony Albanese

Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden has criticised the decision of dropping Travis Head from the first Test against India in Nagpur which the hosts won by an inning and 132 runs.&nbsp;

"Australia just did not play their best side (in the first Test) – Travis Head should have been just about No.1 picked in that side,” he said as quoted by foxsports.com.au. “He has got wonderful intent to score, his strike rate is enormous. Gets that momentum and that belief in the batting changeroom. He is a mover and a shaker,” he added.

The comments come on the back of Head's match-winning 53-ball 49 in the second inning of the third Test in Indore, which the visitors won by 9 wickets.

Notably, Head had scored four fifties and a century against West Indies and South Africa in the home summer before touring India. He was dropped because of Indian spinners' pre-conceived dominance against the left-handed batsmen.

Hayden, however, discarded the ideology and said that his current form should have been the criteria of selection and not the his record in the sub-continent.

“He was brilliant last (Australian) summer. Who cares what happens a few years ago, he was in form! Needed to play that (first) Test. And now he is showing exactly why you pick him,” the former Aussie great said.

Head, too, gave strong case for the comments to be made as he played a crucial role in helping Australia keep the four-match Border-Gavaskar series alive, which India lead by 2-1. Australia, with their win in Indore, also secured a spot in the World Test Championship final, to be be played in June in England.

Indore pitch, meanwhile, received a poor rating from the International Cricket Council (ICC) as the ball started to turn from the first hour of the Test which got over inside three days.

Batting first after winning the toss, India could managed only 109 runs in the first innings. The hosts although, pulled things back as they restricted Australia's first innings to 197. In the second innings, India again faltered as they got bowled out for 163 and Australia chased the 76-run target for the loss of one wicket only.

The fourth and final Test of the series will be played from March 9 in Ahmedabad.

Ind vs Aus: Matthew Hayden slams Australia for dropping Travis Head from first Test

Indian Test captain Rohit Sharma has backed his team despite facing an embarrassing nine-wicket defeat against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy third Test in Indore while also wanting to continue to play on turning pitches. After the debacle,&nbsp;Rohit was quick to point out the nature of the pitch and insisted his team would want similar pitch in the final Test match in Ahmedabad.

Rohit wants to continue playing on turning pitches

"Honestly speaking, these are the kind of pitches we want to play on," an honest Rohit Sharma admitted after the match on Friday, March 3.&nbsp;

"This is our strength, so when you're playing at your home, you always play to your strength, not worry about what people outside are talking about."

"We want to play to our strength, and that strength is spin bowling and that batting depth. And everyone uses that advantage outside [India], so what's wrong in that? We've got to do that as well, especially when we're getting results. Indian Test captain Rohit Sharma has backed his team despite facing an embarrassing nine-wicket defeat against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy third Test in Indore while also wanting to continue to play on turning pitches. After the debacle, Rohit was quick to point out the nature of the pitch and insisted his team would want similar pitch in the final Test match in Ahmedabad. Rohit wants to continue playing on turning pitches "Honestly speaking, these are the kind of pitches we want to play on," an honest Rohit Sharma admitted after the match on Friday, March 3. "This is our strength, so when you're playing at your home, you always play to your strength, not worry about what people outside are talking about." "We want to play to our strength, and that strength is spin bowling and that batting depth. And everyone uses that advantage outside [India], so what's wrong in that? We've got to do that as well, especially when we're getting results. If we were not getting the results, I would think otherwise, but I think we are playing well, we are getting the results that we want," the Indian skipper further added. Rohit Sharma 'wants to continue playing' on turning pitches despite Indore debacle

Former Indian captain Kapil Dev isn't pleased with current skipper Rohit Sharma's fitness standards. Ahead of the third and penultimate Test between India and Australia, in Indore, in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2022/23, the 1983 World-Cup winning captain Kapil opined that while Rohit is a great captain and player, it is a shame that Hitman doesn't look fit on TV. Further, he cited Virat Kohli's fitness and urged Rohit to get in shape by taking inspiration from his teammate.

Speaking on an ABP show, Kapil said, "It is very important (to be fit). More so for a captain. It's a shame if you are not fit. Rohit needs to put some hard work on it. He is a great batter but when you talk about his fitness, he looks a bit overweight, at least on TV. Yes, it's different when you look at someone on TV and then in real life. But from whatever I see, Rohit is a great player and a great captain, but he needs to get fit," the former Indian captain further asserted.

He added, "Look at Virat, whenever you see him, you say, 'that's some fitness!" This isn't the first time that Rohit has been slammed for his fitness. In the last few years, he has missed plenty of games across formats due to hamstring injury or other issues. However, Hitman hasn't spoken at length on this issue and is focused on taking India to the ICC World Test Championship final (WTC), to be held in early June at The Oval, London.&nbsp;

Rohit-led India currently have an unassailable 2-0 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and will storm into the final with another win. So far, Rohit has been the leading run-scorer in the four-match Test series with 183 runs in three outings, including a majestic 120 in the series opener.

BGT 2022/23: 'It's a shame if you are not fit' - Kapil Dev urges Rohit Sharma to get in shape

KL Rahul's form has become a huge talking point in the Indian cricket fraternity. The dashing opener has struggled for runs in the ongoing India-Australia Tests and has managed only 38 runs in three outings in the first two Tests. Thus, many have slammed him left, right and centre and called for his omission. Skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid continue to back the star opener whereas former cricketers Venkatesh Prasad and Aakash Chopra have been at loggerheads with regards to Rahul's place in the side.&nbsp;

Amid all this, former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh took to his official Twitter handle to back Rahul and has urged one and all to 'leave him alone'. He tweeted, "Can we leave @klrahul alone guys ? He hasn’t done any crime.He is still a top player. He will come back strong.we all go thru such patches in international cricket.he is not the first one and last one. so please respect the fact that he is our own 🇮🇳 player and have faith." 'Can we leave KL Rahul alone?': Harbhajan Singh backs under-fire Indian opener amid severe criticism

Australia have been dealt yet another blow ahead of the third Test match in the ongoing Border Gavaskar trophy. Opener David Warner has been ruled out of the remainder of the series after suffering a hairline fracture during the second Test match in Delhi.&nbsp;

"David Warner has been ruled out of the Qantas test tour of India and will return home. Warner was struck on the elbow in the second Test in Delhi and sustained a hairline fracture," said Cricket Australia (CA) in a statement.&nbsp;

"After further assessment, he will require a period of rehabilitation which will preclude any further involvement in the remainder of the Test series."

Warner was substituted during the Delhi Test match after suffering a concussion, having taken a tricky Mohammed Siraj bouncer on the grille of the helmet. However, it was the injury, minutes before the bouncer that cut short his red-ball tour.&nbsp;

Warner was struck on the elbow by another short of good-length delivery. While it looked fairly innocuous at the time, the subsequent x-rays showed that the southpaw had suffered a hairline fracture.&nbsp;

Trouble mounts for Australia as David Warner exits the Test series against India

India have been on a rampage versus Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2022/23. Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. won the series opener, in Nagpur, convincingly and also emerged on top in the second Test, in New Delhi, and will now aim for a 4-0 whitewash versus the Aussies at home. While the likes of Rohit, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Md Shami, Axar Patel have been on a roll, KL Rahul has struggled in particular in the two Tests.

Rahul, who has only 198 runs in the last 12 innings, has managed only 38 runs in 3 outings in the Australia Tests. Thus, he had drawn a lot of criticism and is place is on the line. Recently, veteran keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik opined on Rahul's form and symphathised with him.&nbsp;He feels Rahul might lose his place soon not for his unlucky dismissal in the second innings of the Delhi Test but for his&nbsp;below-par returns since the South Africa series last year.

Karthik said on Cricbuzz, "He also knows for a fact that if he's going to be dropped for the next match, which is pretty much an eventuality, it is not because of the one innings, it is because of what has transpired in the last five-six Test matches. He is a class player. He is very good in all formats. At this point, I don't think it's the technique, it's what is happening between the ears. He might need some time away from the game. Come back fresh for the ODIs."

Karthik further added that he resonates with Rahul's current state. Sharing his own struggling period, DK&nbsp;revealed how he dealt with ups and downs in his career and said, "This is a professional world, you've got to deal with those sorrowful moments but as a player when I look at what he has gone through. When you get out that way knowing very well this could have been your last innings. It has happened to me when you go into the dressing room, quietly walk into the toilet, and shed a tear or two. It's not a nice feeling because there's not much you can do."

DK went on to pick Shubman Gill over Rahul for the third Test at Holkar Stadium, Indore. "Temporarily for the moment, I will have to go with Shubman Gill. He batted beautifully. There will be just one change in the India XI (for the third Test). I felt bad for KL Rahul. He has been under the scanner. But One thing is for sure, KL will come back strongly and when he does, there are not too many right-handed batters who can match him with the quality and range of shots," DK stated.

India will lock horns with Australia in the third and penultimate Test at Indore which kicks off on March 01. While Rohit and head coach Rahul Dravid have backed Rahul, he might still be out of the playing XI given he has looked completely out of sorts -- especially mentally -- in the series.&nbsp;

Former Australian captain Allan Border has said that Pat Cummins looked at sea during his first captaincy stint in the subcontinent. The legendary Australian cricketer believes Cummins was so worried about other things that he forgot to bowl himself during the Delhi Test.

Former Australian captain Allan Border has said that Pat Cummins looked at sea during his first captaincy stint in the subcontinent. The legendary Australian cricketer believes Cummins was so worried about other things that he forgot to bowl himself during the Delhi Test. "I just thought this is Pat's first real Test as a captain, the rest has been plain sailing, you go to the sub-continent and all of a sudden you get tested out in all sorts of areas," Border told SEN. "He's worried about lots of different things, he forgot about himself bowling I think. That's what can happen in those situations when your premier fast bowler is your captain." Read more: IND vs AUS: Disappointed with Delhi Test result, Pat Cummins urges players to review their performances Cummins only bowled 13 overs in the first innings of the Delhi Test while not opting to pick the ball in the second innings. Despite the Kotla pitch offering a fair bit of turn, the pacers were in the game throughout. Indian seamer Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers as he snaffled four wickets in the first innings. Reflecting on the same, Border added, "There were opportunities when things were starting to go stray, particularly in the Indian first innings when we had them on the ropes and they formed a good partnership, a couple of blasts from him running in and bowling some short stuff for two or three overs." On the captaincy front, Cummins looked devoid of ideas at times as the Indian side used the home conditions to full advantage. Post the Delhi Test, Cummins has flown back to Australia due to personal commitments. The pacer is expected to join back the squad before the third Test. 'He forgot about himself': Allan Border says THIS Australian player got overawed by the occasion

Indian spinners R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja dominated proceedings versus Australia on Day 3 of the second Test, in New Delhi on Sunday (February 19), to help Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. win by six wickets. With Australia resuming the day's play with an overall lead of 62 runs, with nine wickets in hand, they fell like nine pins to be dismissed for a paltry 113 with Jadeja returning with 7 for 42 whereas Ashwin accounted for the remaining three scalps. Chasing 114, India achieved the target with six wickets in hand to go 2-0 up in the series and take an unassailable lead in the 2022/23 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

After the match, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria was unimpressed with Australia and claimed that they had no clue what to do once India fought back in the contest. Australia had done a decent job gaining a run's lead but fell flat on Day 3, when they had a chance to set a difficult target.&nbsp;

'This defeat will make the Australian team cry'

Speaking on his Youtube channel, Kaneria said, "The Australian batters don't know how to play in front of the stumps. They all got out trying to play the sweep shot. Being the captain, is this how Pat Cummins should have batted? He had a chat with Peter Handscomb as he walked out to bat. I think he was scared once he knew there was a lot of turn. If an Indian or Pakistani captain did this, he would be sent home the next day."

“This defeat will make the Australian team cry. This won't let them make a comeback. They had the upper hand over India at one stage. However, they didn't know what was to be done when India fought back,” Kaneria asserted.

The former spinner further added, "The Australian batters had no answers against the Indian spinners. They didn't know what to do and ended up blindly sweeping the ball. Ravindra Jadeja was fantastic with the ball, and Ravichandran Ashwin also used his experience very nicely. Rohit Sharma did the right thing by giving them long spells. Australia's scorecard looked like someone's mobile number."

The third and penultimate Test kicks off in Indore on March 01 with the visitors having a herculean task to prevent a whitewash. India, on the other hand, need one more win to confirm themselves a spot in the WTC final.

After the match, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria was unimpressed with Australia and claimed that they had no clue what to do once India fought back in the contest. Australia had done a decent job gaining a run's lead but fell flat on Day 3, when they had a chance to set a difficult target. 'This defeat will make the Australian team cry' Speaking on his Youtube channel, Kaneria said, "The Australian batters don't know how to play in front of the stumps. They all got out trying to play the sweep shot. Being the captain, is this how Pat Cummins should have batted? He had a chat with Peter Handscomb as he walked out to bat. I think he was scared once he knew there was a lot of turn. If an Indian or Pakistani captain did this, he would be sent home the next day." “This defeat will make the Australian team cry. This won't let them make a comeback. They had the upper hand over India at one stage. However, they didn't know what was to be done when India fought back,” Kaneria asserted. Also Read: Venkatesh Prasad once again slams KL Rahul, hits back at 'he has great overseas Test record' claims The former spinner further added, "The Australian batters had no answers against the Indian spinners. They didn't know what to do and ended up blindly sweeping the ball. Ravindra Jadeja was fantastic with the ball, and Ravichandran Ashwin also used his experience very nicely. Rohit Sharma did the right thing by giving them long spells. Australia's scorecard looked like someone's mobile number." The third and penultimate Test kicks off in Indore on March 01 with the visitors having a herculean task to prevent a whitewash. India, on the other hand, need one more win to confirm themselves a spot in the WTC final.

Australians didn't know what to do when India fought back: Ex-Pakistan spinner after hosts win Delhi Test

India thrashed Australia by six wickets on Day 3 of the second Test, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi, to go 2-0 up in the 2022/23 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. While Australia did put up a better show in the Test match, till the first innings, they fell flat in their second essay and gave a paltry 114-run target to Team India. In reply, Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. chased down the score with six wickets to spare and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the process.&nbsp;

The likes of Rohit, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Md Shami have been India's top-performers so far but opener KL Rahul has been struggling for runs. The 30-year-old&nbsp;has only managed 198 runs in the last 12 innings. In the ongoing Test series, Rahul has a&nbsp;total of 38 runs in three innings and has looked completely out of form. Thus, many have slammed the Indian batter and former pacer Venkatesh Prasad has been quite vocal in his criticism of Rahul. He has time and again vented out his frustration with Rahul struggling for runs. Amid severe criticism, both captain Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid have backed the underfire opener.&nbsp;

After the Delhi Test win, Dravid told Star Sports, "I&nbsp;think he (Rahul) needs to trust his processes. This is just a phase, he has been one of our most successful overseas openers. He’s got centuries in South Africa and England, we’ll continue to back him. I believe he has the quality and class to come out of this."

Now, Prasad broke the notion of Rahul having a good overseas record and shared a series of tweets -- also comprising the opener's ordinary away numbers. He wrote, "There is a view that KL Rahul has an outstanding overseas Test record. But stats speak otherwise. He has a test avg of 30 overseas in 56 innings. He has scored 6 overseas centuries but followed it up with a string of low scores that’s why averaging 30. Let’s look at a few others. Shikhar Dhawan has the best overseas average amongst recent openers. Avg of nearly 40 with 5 100’s. Though he too hasn’t been consistent in Test but had Outstanding centuries in SL and NZ, plus a much better home record."

Further, Prasad added, "Mayank Agarwal after the brilliant start in Aust did struggle in away test matches. But he has by far the best home record. Avg of nearly 70 in 13 innings,2 double 100’s &amp; a 150 on a Wankhede pitch where everyone else struggled. Great against spin &amp; had a prolific domestic season. Shubhman Gill has had a brief international career and in 14 overseas innings averages 37, with his 91 at Gabba amongst the best overseas 4th innings and has been in outstanding form," he added in a long thread on Monday, February 20.

Speaking about Rahul's Test career, the right-hander has&nbsp;2,642 runs in 47 Tests at an average of&nbsp;33.44 with 7 hundreds. He has two hundreds in England and one each in India, Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies and Australia. At home, he averages 40.13 but it goes down drastically in away Tests (30.69).

At the post-match press conference of the Delhi Test, captain Rohit indicated that Rahul will be given a longer rope. "Lately, there has been a lot of talk about Rahul’s batting. As team management, we always look at the potential of any individual, not just KL. I have been asked this in the past about a lot of players. If a guy has potential, he will get that extended run,” Sharma said.

Rahul has lost his vice-captaincy post for the remainder of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Hence, he will be desperate for a big knock in the remainder of the Australia Tests.&nbsp;

Venkatesh Prasad once again slams KL Rahul, hits back at 'he has great overseas Test record' claims

Rohit Sharma-led India gained an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 2022/23 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, on Sunday (February 19), with a six-wicket win on Day 3 of the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi. With this win, India have strengthened their chances of reaching the ICC World Test Championship final and look set to whitewash the Aussies in the four-match series with Pat Cummins &amp; Co. being clueless in front of the Indian spin trio.&nbsp;

After losing the Nagpur Test by an innings and 132 runs, Australia did put up a better show in the first innings of the Delhi Test. They managed 263 in their first essay and dismissed India for 262, gaining one-run lead, but fell flat in their second innings with their batters playing the sweep shots on a&nbsp;track which kept low, with Jadeja-Ashwin troubling them with spin. After the game, former Pakistan captain and PCB chairman Ramiz Raja feels 'Australia are not prepared' and went on to add that 'it is nearly impossible to beat Team India in India.'

"The Australians used to finish games against sub-continent teams in Perth or Brisbane. The tables have turned," Ramiz Raja said in his YouTube show. "It shows that Australia are not prepared, especially when it comes to playing good Test cricket in India. It's nearly impossible to beat Team India in India. An ordinary performance against spin. Nine wickets were dismissed in one session. Jadeja produced an excellent bowling performance," Raja added.

India will be eager to go for a 4-0 whitewash versus the Aussies and storm their way into the WTC final. As of now, it looks certain that both sides will lock horns in the summit clash, to be held in early June at The Oval, London.&nbsp;

BGT 2022/23: Beating India at home is almost impossible, says Ramiz Raja after Rohit & Co. take 2-0 lead

India beat Australia in the second test in Delhi by six wickets and retained the Border-Gavaskar after Australia dramatically collapsed in their second innings. The visitors lost 9 wickets for 52 runs as they folded out for a paltry 113 runs. The spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Ashwin took all 10 wickets with Jadeja being the chief tormentor as the left-arm spinner claimed career best seven wickets for just 42 runs. In total, Jadeja took 10 wickets in the game including three in the first Australian inning. Cheteshwar Pujara, who's playing his 100th test, befittingly scored the winning runs.

Twitter also went in a frenzy as soon as India won the Test with congratulatory tweets pouring in from all corners of the cricketing world. This win also also means that India are through World Test Championship (WTC) final, to be played in June, given that Sri Lanka doesn't win their two-match Test series in New Zealand with a 2-0 margin. In case if Sri Lanka are able to pull the rug under the Kiwis, India would be out of contention, however, one more win in the series will make India independent of Sri Lanka - New Zealand series. Earlier, Australia resumed their innings at 61/1 and Ashwin struck in first over of the day as he dismissed Travis Head. Steve Smith then joined Marnus Labuschagne in the middle and the top two ranked Test batsmen in the world added 20 runs before Ashwin sent Smith back. It was a total mayhem after that as Jadeja ripped through the Australian middle and lower-order. The visitors lost four wickets with the team total reading 95, three of them were claimed by Jadeja.

India, in reply, didn't have good start as KL Rahul failed once again in a chase of 115 runs. Skipper Rohit Sharma was second to fall at the team score of 39 but the skipper set the tempo with fluent 31 to his name. Pujara and Kohli then pushed India ahead before Kohli fell prey to Murphy. Twitter can't keep calm as India decimate Australia in second Test in Delhi

It took a sheer piece of brilliance in the field by Australian skipper Pat Cummins to dismiss Indian spinner Axar Patel on day 2 of the second Test in Delhi as the left-arm spinner almost single-handedly denied the visitors a big lead in the first innings. Batting at 74 with nine fours and three maximums already to his name, Axar tried to whack a ball thorough mid-on off Todd Murphy, but only for Cummins to pull a one-handed stunner to dismiss him. Axar was the ninth Indian wicket to fall with the home team trailing by just four runs in the first innings. Have a look at the catch below:

Ind vs Aus, 2nd Test: Ravindra Jadeja fastest Indian to reach 250 wickets and 2,500 runs in Test cricket

Australia skipper Pat Cummins brushed off concerns Thursday over David Warner's batting form and said he was certain the opener would play in this week's second Test against India.

The left-handed Warner scored one and 10 at Nagpur last week and has struggled for form since scoring 200 in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa in Melbourne.

"I'm not a selector. I don't think they've had a meeting but I'm sure Davey will be there," Cummins said of Warner's inclusion in the New Delhi Test, which starts Friday.

"You saw this year at the Boxing Day Test when he puts pressure back on the opposition he's pretty hard to bowl to. You don't get as many good balls, so he knows that. I'm sure that'd be part of his plan," said Cummins.

"He has been batting really well here. Even in the lead-up I thought he was fantastic.&nbsp;

"I know there's a lot of talk about spin bowling through the middle, but with that new ball it's sometimes the hardest time to bat as well."

Australia were bowled out for 91 in one session in the first Test of the four-match series in Nagpur to lose by an innings and 132 runs inside three days.

Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith showed some fight in an otherwise dismal batting display, but Cummins remained hopeful of a turnaround on another spin-friendly pitch.

"I think the planning has been really good and now it's about going out there and doing it and at times that might be being brave enough to take a calculated risk," Cummins said of his batsmen's plans.

"They've been really good, they're all really strong in their plans, trained really well, so we will see how we go."

<h2>'Show how good you are'</h2>

Australia are expected to make changes from the Nagpur drubbing, with spinner Matthew Kuhnemann, returning fast bowler Mitchell Starc and all-rounder Cameron Green fighting for a place in the side.

"Having a right-hander helps and (Green) providing our fifth bowling option also helps, he's a big player," Cummins said.

"He's still coming back from that injury, he's only had a couple of sessions where he's catching with a hard ball. We will see how he pulls up."

Cummins called Starc the "world's premier" bowler in these conditions, but said all options were open going into the Test.

Spinner Todd Murphy had debut figures of 7-124 in Nagpur and Cummins again challenged his spinners to make best of the conditions.

"Even the last game we saw a lot of around-the-wicket bowling where in Australia it's mainly over the wicket bowling," said Cummins.

"It's a bit of an adjustment, but in some ways it doesn't get any better. You have a wicket there that's spinning, you can show how good you are."

"I think the planning has been really good and now it's about going out there and doing it and at times that might be being brave enough to take a calculated risk," Cummins said of his batsmen's plans. "They've been really good, they're all really strong in their plans, trained really well, so we will see how we go." 'Show how good you are' Australia are expected to make changes from the Nagpur drubbing, with spinner Matthew Kuhnemann, returning fast bowler Mitchell Starc and all-rounder Cameron Green fighting for a place in the side. "Having a right-hander helps and (Green) providing our fifth bowling option also helps, he's a big player," Cummins said. "He's still coming back from that injury, he's only had a couple of sessions where he's catching with a hard ball. We will see how he pulls up." Cummins called Starc the "world's premier" bowler in these conditions, but said all options were open going into the Test. You have a wicket there that's spinning, you can show how good you are." IND vs AUS, Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Pujara on cusp of becoming 13th Indian to enter 100-Test club

Rohit Sharma-led India will take on Australia in the second Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi&nbsp;from February 17. After gaining a 1-0 lead in the Nagpur series opener, India will be eager to strengthen their chances of reaching the WTC final and consolidating their overall lead. Ahead of the match, head coach Rahul Dravid addressed a&nbsp;press conference and was asked to comment on the lack of left-arm pacers in the Indian camp.&nbsp;

At present, India have only Jaydev Unadkat in the&nbsp;Test squad who is a left-arm seamer. However, he has also been released for the ongoing Ranji Trophy final&nbsp;between Saurashtra and Bengal at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Apart from Unadkat, India have tried the likes of T Natarajan, Khaleel Ahmed and Arshdeep Singh but the latter is the only left-arm speedster who has earned a considerable run in recent times. Dravid spoke at length about left-arm pacers and said, "A left arm fast bowler brings a lot of variation. You forgot the name of Zaheer Khan. But selectors and management definitely watch out for these talents. Arshdeep Singh played well in the recent ODIs, he also played Ranji Trophy, where he picked 4-5 wickets. He's young, he's developing."

Be it Zaheer Khan or Ashish Nehra they didn't get a chance just because they were left-hand fast bowler but since they were good."

Just then, Dravid was interrupted by a journalist who mentioned about Mitchell Starc and Shaheen Afridi and&nbsp;how these left-arm seamers have done well against India. To this, the head coach came up with a hilarious reply. "Agar 6 foot 4 inch bowler hain aapke paas toh aap batado&nbsp;(If you know a fast bowler who is 6 foot 4 inch, let us know). You took the names of Mitchell Starc and Shaheen Afridi, but in India, we rarely find someone as tall as 6 foot 5 inches who bowls left hand fast," Dravid added.

IND vs AUS, 2nd Test: Rahul Dravid shares epic response to reporter's question on Starc and Shaheen

Jasprit Bumrah's return is keenly awaited in Team India colours. The speedster has been out of action at the international level since September 2022, due to back issues, and missed the entire T20 World Cup 2022, Bangladesh tour, and home series versus Sri Lanka and New Zealand. He was expected to return for the ongoing India-Australia Tests, at home, for the last two matches but now it has been reported that he won't be joining the side for the red-ball series.

After the conclusion of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India will host Australia in three ODIs -- on March 17, 19, and 22&nbsp;-- and as per&nbsp;news agency PTI, Bumrah won't be returning even for the 50-over series and will likely make his comeback straightaway in IPL 2023 for the Mumbai Indians (MI) where his workload will be closely monitored. Bumrah had pulled out of the India-Sri Lanka ODIs, in January,&nbsp;after the right-arm seamer felt discomfort in his back. He was drafted into the squad and even cleared the match simulation on the first day at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He, however, complained of back issues when the load&nbsp;increased the following day. Thus, he was pulled out of the ODI squad and has not rejoined the team since then.

Not only Border-Gavaskar Trophy! Jasprit Bumrah likely to miss Australia ODIs – Report

India will be hosting Australia in the second Test, of the four-match series, which gets underway on February 17 (Friday). Cheteshwar Pujara, India's No. 3 batter, will be playing his 100th Test and become only the 12th Indian to enter the 100-Test club. He will become the second&nbsp;active Indian player to achieve the feat after Kohli (105 Tests).

Ahead of the second Test, in the national capital, R Ashwin lauded Pujara. He, however, pointed out --&nbsp;in his column for ESPNCricinfo -- that Pujara&nbsp;and even Murali Vijay, who recently retired from international cricket,&nbsp;are not celebrated enough.

Ashwin said, "M Vijay, according to me the greatest opener for India outside of Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag, and Puji are quite similar in that they haven't been celebrated enough. They also had some of the most hilarious arguments. They used to do the most difficult job in Test cricket - play out the new ball in testing conditions, as we tend to need to do whenever we go abroad - so it is par for the course to have a few eccentricities emerge from that kind of partnership."

Further, the wily off-spinner Ashwin hailed Pujara's stubbornness, which has broken down the best of the attacks in the recent past. In this regard, he said, "Pat Cummins bowls good ball after good ball, changing the angles, trying a bouncer, trying a sucker ball, but all he gets from Puji is the leave or the dead defence. Actually I don't recall thinking Puji had a great defence when I first saw him, but his stubbornness is such that he has broken down the best of the attacks with his defence."

"Most batters add to their game when they are successful or cut out some elements when they are failing, but Puji keeps trusting his method. You can't convince him to change. I used to use a Tamil nickname for him with Shankar Basu, our previous trainer: Mirugam, the beast. Just like a beast focuses single-mindedly on its prey, Puji focuses on batting," he added.

Pujara has had a glittering career in the red-ball format. In 99 Tests, he has 7,021 runs at an average of 44.15 with 19 tons and 34 half-centuries. He will aim for a memorable outing on his 100th Test and take India to a 2-0 scoreline with another impressive win in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

IND vs AUS: R Ashwin names India's star batters who are 'not celebrated enough'

Former Aussie captain Ian Chappell has lauded Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and feels his promotion as a Test opener has helped him save his red-ball career. Chappell spoke highly in favour of Hitman after his masterclass 120 (212) during India's big win over Pat Cummins-led Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 opener in Nagpur. Under Rohit, India dismissed Australia for 177, after being asked to bowl first, and rode on the skipper's century to post 400 before the Indian spinners -- R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja -- combined to rattle the Aussies for a paltry 91 in their second essay; leading India to an innings and 132-run win.

Chappell wrote in his coloumn on Mid-Day, "The move to open in Test cricket saved Rohit's career. He looked like he might waste his enormous skill down the order but batting above Virat Kohli has prevented him being overawed by the ex-captain's popularity. Captaincy has also played a big part in Rohit's revival; the discipline required to lead a team has added another level to his batting."

Rohit was asked to open in Tests after the 2019 ODI World Cup. He slammed back-to-back tons in his first Test as an opener, versus South Africa, and also ended the three-match home series with his maiden double ton in the format. Since then, he has been India's Mr. Consistent in the format and has carried his form in the India-Australia home series.

Chappell further lauded Rohit for his classy knock on a tough surface in Nagpur. He said, "The state of the pitch was put into perspective by the Indian captain Rohit Sharma. He played a masterful innings that displayed confidence in his own defence, his wide stroke range on a turning - but not impossible pitch - and his ironclad discipline."

"Not only did Rohit reveal a wide range of shots, he also frustrated the Australian bowlers with the way he only played them when the time was right. He showed all players, home and touring, how to play on Indian pitches, and his example was flawlessly followed by the much improved Ravindra Jadeja," the Aussie veteran wrote.

IND vs AUS, BGT: Rohit Sharma's promotion as opener saved his Test career, feels Aussie legend Ian Chappell

India dominated proceedings in the first Test versus Australia, in Nagpur, to go 1-0 up in the ongoing edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Losing the toss, India rode on comeback man Ravindra Jadeja's 5 for 47 to rattle the Pat Cummins-led Aussies for 177 and piled up 400 courtesy of skipper Rohit Sharma's 120, Jadeja's 70 and Axar Patel's 84 before dismissing the visitors for 91 in their second essay to win by an innings and 132 runs. Jadeja accounted for two more wickets in Australia's second innings and, thus, returned as the Player-of-The-Match.&nbsp;

After India's thumping win, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has lavished huge praise on Jadeja and feels 'world cricket hasn't seen an all-rounder like him'. Speaking on his Youtube channel, he said, "World cricket hasn't seen an all-rounder like Ravindra Jadeja. He dominates every department, be it batting, bowling or fielding. He is one such player that the captain will want to have in the playing XI every single time. He constantly creates pressure on the opposition."

"He didn't play cricket for around six months, but still kept himself in good shape and worked on his fitness. It is never easy to make a return, that too against a team like Australia. It was outstanding that he was able to come up with such a dominating performance in his comeback match against a big team," added Kaneria.

To back Kaneria's claims, Jadeja has been in top form across formats. He has had several injury concerns in the recent past but his performances haven't gone down by any means. In his last Test, during India's one-off match versus England in Edgbaston, he had scored a splendid 104 before resuming from where he left during his comeback match in Nagpur.&nbsp;

At the post-match presentation of the Nagpur Test, Jadeja said, "Feeling amazing. When you come back after five months and give your 100 percent, scoring runs and taking wickets.. feels amazing. Was working hard at the NCA. Would like to thank the NCA staff, physios. They have been working hard with me, even on Sundays. Was looking to bowl in good areas. Ball was spinning, going straight, keeping low. Kept telling myself to bowl at the stumps - if they make mistake, I have a chance. I look to keep things simple. Try not to change things with my batting. It's a crucial number - 5, 6, 7."

He has had several injury concerns in the recent past but his performances haven't gone down by any means. In his last Test, during India's one-off match versus England in Edgbaston, he had scored a splendid 104 before resuming from where he left during his comeback match in Nagpur.

IND vs AUS | 'World cricket hasn't seen....': Ex-Pakistan spinner reserves high praise for Ravindra Jadeja

India had another memorable day in the first Test versus Australia, in Nagpur. After commencing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 edition in style by folding Pat Cummins &amp; Co. for 177 on Day 1, on Thursday (February 09), Rohit Sharma-led India rode on skipper's 120, Ravindra Jadeja's 66 not out and Axar Patel's 52* to reach 321 for 7; leading by 144 runs.

Rohit resumed the day's play at 56 and went on to slam a sublime 212-ball 120, laced with 15 fours and two sixes. He showed grit, determination and class during his knock but could have&nbsp;missed out on reaching his ninth Test hundred when he had a terrible mix-up with his predecessor Virat Kohli for the fourth-wicket stand. The incident took place during the 48th over, bowled by Nathan Lyon.

Kohli nudged a delivery to mid-wicket and began to run before realising there is no run on offer. By then, Rohit had come halfway down when he turned and dived to save himself. Hitman was lucky that the throw wasn't a direct hit otherwise he would've made the long walk back to the pavillion. As Rohit survived, Kohli apologised to him to which the Indian captain had a heartfelt reaction. Here's the video:&nbsp;

Kohli-Rohit only added 16 runs for the fourth wicket before the former Indian captain departed for 12. He was caught behind off debutant Todd Murphy, on a delivery which kept low and was on the legside, but Rohit carried on and became the first Indian skipper to score a hundred in all formats of the game; fourth overall.&nbsp;

Courtesy of Rohit's ton and fifties from all-rounders Jadeja and Axar, India are in a strong position in the first Test in Nagpur. They will look to dictate terms on Day 3 by stretching the lead beyond the 200-run mark and go for the kill versus the Aussies on a tricky surface.

Australia great and former skipper Allan Border was left fuming with the Australian batters&nbsp;during the first Test in Nagpur. The Aussie great wants the current crop of Aussie players&nbsp;to play with harder edge and stop giving 'thumbs up' to bowlers after getting squared up. The case in point is Australia's best batter, Steve Smith -&nbsp;who is known for his unconventional batting style, who after completely missing a ball from Ravindra Jadeja&nbsp;acknowledged the bowler and gave a thumbs-up. Border clearly wasn't pleased with the gesture, and did not mince any words while criticising Smith's actions on Fox Cricket.&nbsp;

“Play with a harder edge. I mean, we’re giving blokes the thumbs up when they’re beating us outside the off stump,” Border said. “What the hell is going on? That is just ridiculous. Don’t go stupid, but Australia play hard nose cricket. We’re even giving someone thumbs up … bloody hell,” he added while taking to Fox Cricket.

IND vs AUS: Allan Border livid with Steve Smith for showing 'thumbs-up' to Jadeja after getting beaten

India had a flawless start to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by dominating Day 1 of the Nagpur Test on Thursday (February 09). Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. dismissed Pat Cummins-led Australia for a paltry 177 riding on Ravindra Jadeja's five-fer before the hosts went to stumps at 77 for 1, with captain Rohit unbeaten on fifty-plus.

Rohit and KL Rahul stitched an impressive 76-run opening stand but the latter was dismissed for 20 off debutant Todd Murphy as India lost a wicket before end of day's play. With Rahul failing to touch the 50-run mark in his last eight innings, many were left disappointed with his departure as he missed another opportunity to get a big score.&nbsp;

Former Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh feels Rahul should've adopted a more aggressive approach. Speaking on his official Youtube channel, Bhajji said, "KL Rahul would be disappointed as he was taking more time. I believe if he could have kept an attacking approach then he could have scored more. I hope in the second innings if he gets the chance to bat, he will score some runs for his own confidence."

Commenting on the match, Harbhajan stated, "I am hoping that India scores 300-350 on this pitch. Captain Rohit Sharma started a great inning (and) is not out with more than 50 runs. If he plays the entire first session then there will be expectations for a century."

"If India scores anywhere near 350 then I doubt Australia will be able to score more than 200 in the second innings. The more you bowl on this pitch, the more it will spin. If it spins then Australia will surrender against India's three spinners," he asserted.

At present, the match is interestingly poised. Australia have chipped in with regular wickets on Day 2, on Friday (February 10), to not let India run away with the game. Rohit's century has taken India to the lead but they have only five wickets in hand. Hence, he needs to bat for long to ensure his side a healthy lead in the contest.

Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja lavished huge praise on Rohit Sharma and claimed that he&nbsp;has put the seeds of fear in Pat Cummins' head with his batting in the first&nbsp;Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy, in Nagpur. Rohit took&nbsp;on the Aussie skipper Cummins when India came out to bat in the fag end of Day 1 to shake his confidence and then played his trademark pull shot on Day 2 to force his Australian counterpart to go out of the attack.&nbsp;

On Cricbuzz, Jadeja was asked if Rohit had sown the seeds of fear in Cummins' head. To this, the former cricketer agreed&nbsp;and said that the&nbsp;India captain had taken Cummins out of the game on the first day of the Test, with the Aussies already on the back foot after folding for 177, and that six he hit off him on Day 2 showed his dominance.

Jadeja said, "Absolutely. He had sown the seeds of fear in Cummins yesterday and now he has come to take the fruits. He almost took Cummins out of the game yesterday. And today, with that six, he showed dominance."

He hailed Rohit for his stupendous 120 (212) to take India to a dominant position on Day 2 of the opening Test. "Rohit Sharma is always a cool customer. He just goes on his path like an elephant that doesn't look here and there despite the noise around it. The pitch is up and down and we saw Virat Kohli have a reaction to the nature of the pitch. We don't see that from Rohit at all. What we saw today from him was just brilliant."
