<p>UK authorities on Wednesday said that the body of a baby was discovered in southern England's woodland area, which is close to where they had arrested aristocrat Constance Marten and her partner, who is a sex offender,&nbsp;earlier this week over concerns for the welfare of their child.</p>

<p>In a statement released on Wednesday, Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford of the Met’s East Area Command said, “It is my very sad duty to update that this afternoon, police officers searching a wooded area close to where Constance Marten and Mark Gordon were arrested, discovered the remains of a baby.”</p>

<p>“A post-mortem examination will be held in due course,” the statement added. Earlier this week, police arrested Marten, 35, and Gordon, 48, after the couple went missing in early January. It was believed that the couple was travelling with a newborn.</p>

<p>London’s Metropolitan Police released a statement on Tuesday in which it said that the couple had been “initially arrested on suspicion of child neglect,” but were later “further arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter”.</p>

<p>Over 200 officers used sniffer dogs, drones, police helicopters and thermal imaging cameras to assist them on the ground as they searched for the missing baby after the couple was found and arrested in Brighton, southern England on Monday.</p>

<p>Basford said that they have established a crime scene around the infant remains, where they expect the work to “continue for some time”.</p>

<p>“This is an outcome that myself and the many officers who have been part of the search, had hoped would not happen. I recognise the impact this news will have on the many people who have been following this story closely, and can assure them that we will do everything we possibly can to establish what has happened,” he said.</p>

<p>The police started a search for the couple and newborn in early January as several appeals were released by them and a £10,000 ($12,090) reward was offered for providing any information that would lead to the missing couple and newborn's discovery.</p>

<p>After the birth of the baby was announced, the couple's social media pages have been flooded with congratulatory messages.</p>

<p>The couple had earlier stated that after the baby is born, they will have to find more jobs to make ends meet.&nbsp;</p>

<p>She said that she had left her home to take part in a youth festival and after that, she never returned. She received training in dance at a transgender community centre and now she teaches the art to students in Kozhikode.</p>

<p>Zahad is an accountant and belongs to a Christian family from Thiruvananthapuram's fishing community. Currently, he is employed at a supermarket.</p>

<p>After coming out as a transgender, he left his family. However, after pregnancy, the couple was accepted by his family. "They are helping Zahad during the pregnancy," Paval said.</p>

<p>After an 18-hour rescue operation, a 19-month-old girl in Thailand was successfully rescued after she fell down into a deep well. Doctors said she is recovering, despite showing signs of fatigue.&nbsp;The incident took place on Monday afternoon in Tak province, near the Myanmar border.&nbsp;The parents of the child were working in a nearby field when they heard the screams of their daughter who had fallen down the 13m (42ft) deep shaft while playing.</p>

<p>Following the incident, rescue teams were dispatched to the site and worked overnight using a mechanical digger.</p>

<p>They dug a 10m deep pit adjacent to the shaft, afterwards, oxygen was pumped into the well to allow the child to breathe.</p>

<p>However, their rescue operation was impeded temporarily over fears that the well could collapse in on itself and harm the child if they continued to use the digger. Then, they used hand-held shovels to remove the final few metres of earth.</p>

<p>According to PBS Thailand, rescue workers reached site around 8 pm local time (01:00 GMT), but were unable to pull her out immediately, as she appeared to have suffered an injury to her leg.</p>

<p>After the successful rescue operation, people began cheering for the girl.</p>

<p>"We are so glad we could rescue her safely," rescue worker Chanachart Wancharernrung told reporters.</p>

<p>"We have been trying since yesterday afternoon. We worked without sleep. Everyone helped out."</p>

<p>A police officer in Florida risked his life to save a baby that was stuck on a balcony of a third-story apartment after it caught fire.</p>

<p>The netizens were all in praise of the officer after a video of the dramatic incident went viral. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the scene was captured on the deputy's body camera.</p>

<p>The video posted online appears to show Puzynski telling the woman “hand me the baby, hand me the baby. We are coming,” as he goes up and balances himself on the railing before she extends the crying baby to him</p>

<p>“Please, come get me,” she pleads afterwards.</p>

<p>The police got a call around 4.15 am about a baby and her mother trying to escape the blaze at the Isles at East Millenia complex, officials said in a news release.</p>

<p>After spotting the mother-daughter duo stuck on the third floor of the engulfed apartment, the deputy immediately scaled the second-floor balcony, grabbed the child and passed her down to other deputies on the ground.</p>

<p>“This has the potential to change the face of solid organ transplantation in the future,” said Joseph W. Turek, MD, PhD, Duke’s chief of pediatric cardiac surgery and a member of the surgical team that performed the landmark procedure.</p>

<p>“If this approach proves successful – and further validation is contemplated – it would mean transplant recipients would not reject the donated organ and they would also not need to undergo treatment with long-term immune-suppression medications, which can be highly toxic, particularly to the kidneys,” Turek said.</p>

<p>“This concept of tolerance has always been the holy grail in transplantation, and we are now on the doorstep.”</p>

<p>The idea of using donated and processed thymus tissue during heart transplantation has been under study at Duke and other sites for several years.</p>

But a new landmark study has pointed at a direct correlation between money available with parents and brain development of the child in very first year. This is being touted to be first direct experimental evidence to show how poverty leads to such changes.</p>

<p>"We have known for many years that growing up in poverty puts children at risk for lower school achievement, reduced earnings, and poorer health," explains neuroscientist Kimberly Noble from Columbia University.</p>

<p>"However, until now, we haven't been able to say whether poverty itself causes differences in child development, or whether growing up in poverty is simply associated with other factors that cause those differences."</p>

<p>For this study, a thousand low-income mothers were recruited shortly after their baby was born. These parents were from New York City, New Orleans, Omaha or Minneapolis/St. Paul.</p>

<p>By random selection, these mothers were given either USD 333 or USD 20 per month for first four years of their babies' lives.</p>

<p>It was found that babies of low-income mothers who had received higher cash payments showed higher frequency brain activity than the babies whose mothers had got lower amount of money.</p>

<p>More research is said to be needed to correctly ascertain whether higher frequency brain activity led to better cognitive development. But researchers think that this was possible. It is being ascertained if lower mental&nbsp;stress of parents had anything to do with heightened brain activity of the baby.</p>

<p>According to a study, sugars in breast milk can help prevent Group B Streptococcus (GBS) infections in human cells and tissues and in mice.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The study has argued that human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) –– short strings of sugar molecules abundant in breast milk–– might be able to replace antibiotics for treating infections in infants and adults.</p>

<p>GBS infections are a common cause of blood infections, meningitis, and stillbirth in infants.&nbsp;Antibiotics may treat and prevent GBS infections, but the bacterium is becoming increasingly resistant.</p>

<p>The researchers studied the effects of combined HMOs from several mothers on GBS infection of placental immune cells (called macrophages) and of the gestational membrane (the sac surrounding the foetus).</p>

<p>"We found that HMOs were able to completely inhibit bacterial growth in both the macrophages and the membranes so we very quickly turned to looking at a mouse model," said, Rebecca Moore, who is presenting the work at the meeting.</p>

<p>They examined whether HMOs could prevent a GBS infection from spreading through the reproductive tract of pregnant mice. "In five different parts of the reproductive tract, we saw significantly decreased GBS infection with HMO treatment," Moore added.</p>

<p>Moore is a graduate student in the labs of Steven Townsend, PhD, at Vanderbilt University and Jennifer Gaddy, PhD, at Vanderbilt University Medical Centre.</p>

<p>The world’s most premature baby has survived a year after braving difficulties. The baby was born five months prematurely at Children’s Minnesota hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.</p>

<p>The case, published in The Lancet medical journal, involved connecting veins from the donor uterus with the recipient`s veins, as well as linking arteries, ligaments and vaginal canals.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It comes after 10 previously known cases of uterus transplants from deceased donors - in the United States, the Czech Republic and Turkey - failed to produce a live birth.</p>

<p>The girl born in the Brazilian case was delivered via caesarean section at 35 weeks and three days, and weighed 2,550 grams (nearly 6 lbs), the case study said.</p>

<p>Dani Ejzenberg, a doctor at Brazil`s Sao Paulo University hospital who led the research, said the transplant - carried out in September 2016 when the recipient was 32 - shows the technique is feasible and could offer women with uterine infertility access to a larger pool of potential donors.</p>

<p>The current norm for receiving a womb transplant is that the organ would come from a live family member willing to donate it.</p>

<p>"The numbers of people willing and committed to donate organs upon their own deaths are far larger than those of live donors, offering a much wider potential donor population," Ejzenberg said in a statement about the results.</p>

<p>She added, however, that the outcomes and effects of womb donations from live and deceased donors have yet to be compared, and said the technique could still be refined and optimised.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The first baby born after a live donor womb transplant was in Sweden in 2013. Scientists have so far reported a total of 39 procedures of this kind, resulting in 11 live births.</p>

<p>Experts estimate that infertility affects around 10 to 15 per cent of couples of reproductive age worldwide. Of this group, around one in 500 women have uterine problems.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Before uterus transplants became possible, the only options to have a child were adoption or surrogacy.</p>

<p>In the Brazilian case, the recipient had been born without a uterus due to a condition called Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome. The donor was 45 and died of a stroke.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Five months after the transplant, Ejzenberg`s team wrote, the uterus showed no signs of rejection, ultrasound scans were normal, and the recipient was having regular menstruation. <p>At seven months and 20 days - when the case study report was submitted to The Lancet - the baby girl was continuing to breastfeed and weighed 7.2 kg (16 lb).</p>

<p>However, his pregnant wife Shimu Devi developed labour pain at around midnight and was admitted to district hospital where she delivered the baby girl at around 5 am, officials said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>They said Devi along with the newborn was taken to the cremation ground Chamba-Seri in an ambulance for the last glimpse of her husband. Later, the last rites of the soldier were performed with full military honours, the officials said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A baby boy named&nbsp;Miracle&nbsp;has been born on board a humanitarian ship - a bright spot as the tide of migrants risking sea crossings from Libya to Italy has increased as the weather has improved.</p>

<p>There have been more than 1,800 migrants rescued by humanitarian ships, and Italy's navy and coastguard vessels over the past three days, and one body was recovered, an Italian coastguard official said.</p>

<p>Arrivals from Libya, a staging post for people smugglers, have plummeted 85 per cent this year from last as Italy provided support to the Libyan coastguard and to municipalities along the coast to stop migrant boats.</p>

<p>But good weather or other factors seem to have reversed that trend, for now.</p>

<p>"It's really hard to know what's happening inside Libya, or why the Libyan coastguard has not been so active in these last few days," said Lauren King, a spokeswoman from the Aquarius, the ship baby&nbsp;Miracle&nbsp;was born aboard.</p>

<p>The Aquarius is a rescue ship run by SOS Mediterranee and Doctors without Borders (MSF), which brought ashore 70 migrants in Catania, Sicily, on Sunday. The Aquarius is setting off again later in the day for the waters off the coast of Libya.</p>

<p>"Given the weather conditions ... It's better we're out there and ready," she said.</p>

<p>On Saturday, the leader of the far-right League party, which appears poised to form a coalition government with the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement, said that the surge in arrivals meant someone was trying to undermine the would-be administration.</p>

<p>"The usual powers that be are threatening us with the migrant boats," Matteo Salvini Tweeted.</p>

<p>Earlier in the month, Sania said that she and Shoaib want a daughter but whenever they decide to start a family, she would want her child's surname to be 'Mirza Malik'.</p>

She went on to say, "My name is Sania Mirza, I didn't change my name post-marriage. In fact, my child's last name will be Mirza Malik".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sania spoke about her personal experiences of gender bias, where she has heard some of her relatives telling her parents that they should have had a son so that the family name "goes ahead".</p>

<p>Sania married Pakistan cricketer Malik back in 2010 in Hyderabad and according to Pakistan tradition. This is their first child, eight years after the marriage.</p>

In an exclusive interview during WION's Knowledge Seminar at Goafest 2018, the legend shared how she has grown up believing that daughters are no different from sons. She went on to say, "My name is Sania Mirza, I didn't change my name post-marriage. In fact, my child's last name will be Mirza Malik". Sania spoke about her personal experiences of gender bias, where she has heard some of her relatives telling her parents that they should have had a son so that the family name "goes ahead". Sania married Pakistan cricketer Malik back in 2010 in Hyderabad and according to Pakistan tradition. This is their first child, eight years after the marriage. The 31-year-old has been sidelined since October with a knee injury. She has slipped from number one in the world doubles ranking -- the first for an Indian woman -- to 24.
