Not only did they lose the chance of winning a Test series in India for the first time since 2004, but they also failed to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy&nbsp;for the third straight time, having lost the previous two editions at home in 2018 and 2020.

Meanwhile, two successive losses have also dent Australia’s points percentage on the World Test Championship standings as their PCT has now dropped to 66.67 from 70.83. However, they still remain on the top of the table with India inching closer - who are currently placed second, as their PCT has increased to 64.06.

Writing about the Nagpur pitch, Chappell concluded it was nothing but a fairly typical Indian red soil pitch and wasn't impossible to play on. He mentioned the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma's brilliant century to put things into perspective and mentioned about how Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne batted during the first innings on day one.

"The state of the pitch was put into perspective by the Indian captain Rohit Sharma. He played a masterful innings that displayed confidence in his own defence, his wide stroke range on a turning - but not impossible pitch - and his ironclad discipline. However, since the next T20 World Cup is scheduled in 2024, and Australia is not slated to play any T20Is until late August this year, Finch decided this was the right time to hang his boots.

Hazlewood has been struggling with injuries lately having played just four matches in the past two years. While his side injury ruled him out of the Windies’ Tests last year, he missed the following first two Tests against South Africa due to the same reason too. Returned for the final Test of the series at the SCG, Hazlewood then picked up the niggle that has now kept him out of contention for the first two India Tests.

As per the fast bowler&nbsp;he sustained this injury mainly due to the damp run-ups at the SCG during the final Proteas Test. The fast bowler added that he didn’t bowl much during Australia’s training camp near Bengaluru and would only resume bowling a couple of days before start of the Nagpur Test.

"It's [the injury] still lingering from the [Sydney] Test match," Hazlewood said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. "We obviously bowled after a lot of rain and the jump-offs were quite soft, where we were taking off from and they ended up replacing them as well.

"It sort of worked to a degree, but just that extra load jumping off a soft ground to bowl and again first Test match your body is not used to that sort of workload as well. I was bowling a fair bit leading into the [India] tour at home and sort of just pushing up against it. It probably wasn't recovering as well as I would have liked between each session.

"So thought we'd give it a few days here straight off the bat and try and get over the hump and have a bowl from Tuesday and hope it goes well," the fast bowler added.

Having the backups in Boland and lesser-known Lance Morris, Australia is likely to pair Scott with Pat Cummins for the first Test while Nathan Lyon and either of Ashton Agar or Mitchell Swepson will be picked as spinners.

Australian head coach Andrew McDonald says the management will opt for no tour game policy ahead of the Test series against India. As the Australian team will reach India a week before the start of the first match&nbsp;in Nagpur, that starts on February 9th, they are unlikely to play a tour game.

The management feels instead of reaching early and trying to acclimatize to the conditions, they want their players to feel mentally and physically fresh upon arriving in the country -&nbsp;something they had done before during the Pakistan tour in March, 2022.

Earlier, a report in cricket.com.au said pacer Nathan Ellis, all-rounders Daniel Sams, and Sean Abbott will be the replacements for the injured trio on their trip to India, with matches to take place on September 20, 23 and 25 in Mohali, Nagpur and Hyderabad respectively.

The last time Australia played a T20I series against India, it was in 2019, where Australia won two-match series 2-0.

David was born to Australian parents in Singapore and he moved to Perth as a two-year-old kid. He has represented Singapore in 14 matches and has scored 558 runs at an average of 46.50 with four half-centuries. Under ICC rules, he is completely eligible to wear Aussie colours immediately.

The International Cricket Council on Wednesday released the Men`s Future Tours Programme (FTP) 2023-27, confirming the international calendar for all Full Members across all three formats of the game. In total, there will be 777 international matches - 173 Tests, 281 ODIs and 323 T20Is - in the 2023-2027 FTP cycle compared to the 694 in the current one.

India will be playing 27 ODI matches before the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. Meanwhile, Men in Blue will play 5 match Test series against England and Australia in the cycle. India will be playing 44 Tests, 63 ODI and 76 T20I from Aug 18, 2022, to February 2027.

England will play the most Tests in the cycle - 22. Australia will play 21 Tests in the period, while India will play 20. Australia, England and India all play five-match Test series as part of the third and fourth editions of the WTC, which also comprises 19 two-match series and five three-match series each in the two editions of the Championship that run from 2023-25 and 2025-27.

Test teams outside the WTC have also scheduled a substantial number of bilateral Test matches in an effort to boost playing opportunities in cricket`s traditional multi-day format. Former Australian cricket team all-rounder Andrew Symonds passed away in a car accident at the age of 46 on Saturday. The accident took place outside Townsville in Queensland, Australia and according to the police statement, Symonds’ car went off the road and rolled over causing grave injuries to the former Australia cricketer who later succumbed to his death.

"Early information indicates, shortly after 11pm the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road, near Alice River Bridge when it left the roadway and rolled. Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant, however, he died of his injuries," the statement read.
