Less than five days before the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/tags/delhi-election" rel="dofollow">Delhi Assembly elections</a>, five Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs resigned from the primary membership of the party on Friday (Jan 31).&nbsp;
The MLAs who resigned are Naresh Yadav (Mehrauli), Rohit Kumar (Trilokpuri), Rajesh Rishi (Janakpuri), Madan Lal (Kasturba Nagar), Pawan Sharma (Adarsh Nagar), and Bhawna Goud (Palam).&nbsp;
Bhupinder Singh Joon was the first AAP MLA to put in his papers.

Palam MLA Bhawna Gaur, in a letter to the AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal said that she was quitting because she lost faith in him and the party.&nbsp;
"I hereby resign from the primary membership of the Aam Aadmi Party as I have lost faith in you and the party. Please accept the same," Bhawna Gaur and Madan Lal wrote in two separate letters.
All these MLAs have not been given a party ticket to contest the 2025 Delhi Assembly polls.&nbsp;

Notably, Naresh Yadav was earlier the Mehrauli candidate but &nbsp;AAP in its fifth list of candidates for the Delhi election, announced Mahender Chaudhary as its Mehrauli candidate. Yadav&nbsp;was convicted by a Punjab court in a Quran desecration case in December and sentenced to two-year jail.&nbsp;
Yadav in his resignation letter said the AAP abandoned its founding principle of "honest politics."&nbsp;

AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, in a response to the Election Commission's demand for providing evidence to back his claims stating that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Haryana government attempted "genocide" by mixing "poison" in the Yamuna river supplied to Delhi, said he made the &lsquo;Yamuna poisoning&rsquo; remark in public interest.&nbsp;
Kejriwal has now challenged the BJP and Congress leaders to drink Yamuna water.
"We have four bottles... will send to each one of them... please drink and show us. Then we will believe," he said in a press briefing as he pointed towards plastic bottles filled with Yamuna water.

His remarks came after the Election Commission of India rebuked Kejriwal on Thursday (Jan 30) asking him to not link the issues concerning the increased level of ammonia in the Yamuna with his grave allegations of poisoning the river for mass genocide.
The EC asked him to provide factual evidence with specific and pointed responses to the type, quantity, nature, and manner of poisoning of Yamuna.
Kejriwal has also been asked to share details of the engineers, location, and methodology by Friday 11 am, through which the "poison" was detected by Delhi Jal Board staff.
The poll body has granted the AAP chief a last chance to explain why action should not be taken against his serious allegations that can ignite unrest and cause disharmony amongst different groups.

Modi addressed a public meeting in Delhi's Kartar Nagar, where he criticised AAP leaders, comparing them to notorious serial killer Charles Sobhraj, known for deceiving people.
"You may have heard of Charles Sobhraj, he was a known thug. He was such an expert at duping people with innocence that every time people would get duped by him. That is why one has to remain cautious of such people," he said.

Kejriwal had earlier alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was trying to keep the residents of Delhi thirsty by indulging in dirty politics.

<h2>Kejriwal said&nbsp;Haryana govt has "poisoned" Yamuna water</h2>
This comes after Kejriwal on Monday levelled serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party, stating that the BJP-ruled Haryana government has "poisoned" the Yamuna water supplied to Delhi so that "people die" and the blame comes on the AAP.
"If this water would have entered Delhi only to be mixed with the drinking water, many people would have died in Delhi. It would have caused mass genocide," Kejriwal had alleged.
<h2>AAP hits back at LG Saxena</h2>
Meanwhile, reacting to Saxena's remarks, AAP claimed the ammonia levels in Yamuna have reached an alarming 7.2 ppm -- 700 per cent above permissible limits -- and yet Saxena has "failed" to act on this serious public health crisis.
"If he cannot rise above partisan politics, he should step aside. This is not about politics; this is about saving lives," AAP said, as it accused the LG of protecting the BJP-led Haryana government.
The Delhi Assembly elections will take place in a single phase on February 5, with the counting of votes set for February 8.

This follows the Punjab Police's decision to withdraw its security for AAP leader Kejriwal. Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav explained on Thursday that the action was taken after receiving instructions from the Election Commission of India and the Delhi Police.
"We keep on receiving reports regarding threats to Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal and we share them with the concerned agencies. After the instructions of the Election Commission of India and the Delhi Police, we have withdrawn the component of the Punjab Police deployed for the security of Arvind Kejriwal," said DGP Yadav.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday (Jan 22) released its manifesto for the Delhi assembly election while prioritising middle-class welfare.
AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal released the manifesto, which comprised a seven-point charter of demands for the central government to consider in the upcoming Union Budget.
He said that the middle class in the country had become a victim of tax terrorism.
"(Some) parties have created their vote bank in the name of religion and caste and they make promises for a few industrialists so that they donate money. Between this notebank (industrialists) and votebank (others), the middle class is nowhere to be seen. The middle class has been crushed between them. The middle class of India has become the ATM of the government. The truth remains that the Indian middle class is the victim of tax terrorism," Kejriwal said in a video message.
He called this one of the reasons behind brain drain.
"In 2023 itself (approximately) 2.16 lakh people have left the country," Kejriwal said, adding, "We have increased the education budget for the middle class, reduced electricity and water bills, after the elections we will implement Sanjeevani Yojana for free treatment of the elderly."

<h2>'Dedicate next budget to middle class'</h2>
Kejriwal highlighted seven demands stating that the upcoming budget should be the one for the middle class.
"We demand that the next budget of the country be dedicated to the middle class. Today I make seven demands from the central government. They should increase the education budget from two per cent to 10 per cent. The fees in private schools must be regulated," the former Delhi CM said, adding that subsidies and scholarships must be provided for higher education.

He further emphasised the need to increase the health budget stating that it should be increased to 10 per cent and the tax on health insurance should be removed.

The AAP chief also said that the Centre should start the 50 per cent concession in Railways that was earlier provided to senior citizens.
"Strong retirement plans and pension schemes should be made for senior citizens and senior citizens should be given free and good treatment in all government and private hospitals across the country," he said.

Assembly elections: Arvind Kejriwal files nomination from New Delhi constituency

Over 400 schools in India's Delhi received bomb threats in 2024. Now the probe into the event has triggered a political storm in poll-bound national capital.
The Delhi police revealed that the family of a teen allegedly involved in sending the bomb threats works with a non-profit organisation (NGO) that "had connections with a political party".&nbsp;
BJP slammed AAP over having &ldquo;deep bonds&rdquo; with the NGOs that have opposed hanging Afzal Guru, a convict of the 2001 Indian Parliament attack.
&ldquo;All of us know that AAP has deep bonds with such NGOs who have opposed Afzal Guru's hanging. In February 2015, the &lsquo;tukde-tukde&rsquo; slogans were raised on Afzal Guru's death anniversary and the AAP kept the file closed for months... Who are the people of these NGOs and are they related to the Aam Aadmi Party?... Both of the parents of Delhi CM Atishi supported the clemency petition of Afzal Guru,&rdquo; BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said.
He also demanded party leader Arvind Kejriwal to come forward and clarify the connections AAP has with the accused NGO.
"There seems to be a direct connection between these two... Is the AAP involved in this?... I ask Arvind Kejriwal to come forward and AAP should clarify what their relation is with these people... If juveniles are doing this, then what kind of venom are these NGOs injecting into the minds of the children of the country?... We want a clear answer from the AAP... If they don't give a clear answer, that deepens the doubt...," he added.
Now AAP has retaliated, saying that the opposition was "politicising" the event and was using the incident for its own gains.
"You (BJP) are politicising the issue of school children getting threats... The first threat was given in May 2024. After almost 9 months now, the Delhi police have given no statement but the BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi is holding a press conference. He is telling stories of different NGOs, he knows everything... There was no investigation for 10 months but now 15 days before the elections, they are narrating fabricated stories...," AAP MP Sanjay Singh said.

The Delhi police on Tuesday said that the Class 12th student who was held for allegedly sending bomb threat emails to over 400 schools in Delhi was linked to an NGO that was linked to a political party.
"We were tracking e-mails and because of a virtual private network (VPN), it was difficult to track the origins. We also had to ascertain whether there was a terror angle to it," Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Oder) Madhup Tewari said at a press conference, according to news agency PTI reports.
"Our teams tracked the minor after recent e-mails on January 8. As the e-mail sender was a juvenile, the team took his laptop and mobile phone for a forensic examination," Tewari said.
&ldquo;The emails were sent in a very sophisticated manner, including the use of VPNs. Hence, we had difficulties in tracing the emails," he further added.

In February 2015, the ‘tukde-tukde’ slogans were raised on Afzal Guru's death anniversary and the AAP kept the file closed for months... Who are the people of these NGOs and are they related to the Aam Aadmi Party?... Both of the parents of Delhi CM Atishi supported the clemency petition of Afzal Guru,” BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said. Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) national convener and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday (Jan 13) hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by accusing it of betraying Jats of the national capital over the issue of reservation.
A report by the news agency PTI said that Kejriwal met a delegation of Jat leaders at his residence.
In a post on X, Kejriwal said that the delegation expressed anger over being betrayed by the BJP on the issue of reservation for the last decade and the injustice done to them.&nbsp;

Speaking to reporters, Kejriwal said that Jats (in Delhi) were part of Delhi's Other Backward Classes (OBC) list but were not a part of the central government's list. &nbsp;
&ldquo;Jats from Rajasthan can get admissions in the Delhi University and its colleges, jobs in the AIIMS, Safdarjung Hospital and all the central government organisations but not the Jats of Delhi,&rdquo; Kejriwal said.

Last week, Kejriwal wrote to Prime Minister Modi, accusing him of breaking promises made to Jats over their inclusion in the central government's OBC list.&nbsp;
&ldquo;I am writing this letter to remind you of a promise you made 10 years ago on an important issue. I met several representatives of the Jat community of Delhi in the last few days. All of them expressed concern over the neglect of the Jat community of Delhi in the OBC list of the Centre,&rdquo; the letter stated.

Bharadwaj also questioned the BJP&rsquo;s motives, comparing the alleged Rs 33 crore spent on Kejriwal&rsquo;s residence to the Rs 2,700 crore being spent on the Prime Minister&rsquo;s new residence. He said, &ldquo;Both were built during the COVID-19 pandemic with taxpayer money. Let the public see both. The BJP wants to hide the PM&rsquo;s residence, but we demand transparency for both houses.&rdquo;

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said on X: "With the addition of Krishna Park Extension Station, the Delhi Metro network now comprises 289 stations spanning a total length of 394.448 km."
It said the extension of the Magenta Line "ensures that metro services will now run up to Krishna Park Extension, offering enhanced connectivity to commuters in the nearby areas."&nbsp;
The service between Janakpuri West and Krishna Park Extension will run every 16 minutes.
With the addition of this section, said the DMRC, the Magenta Line will now become about 40 kilometres long.&nbsp;

Kejriwal also raised issues concerning the BJP's impact on democracy and the saffron party's conduct seeking clarification on the matter.
The former Delhi chief minister also highlighted the practice of BJP leaders openly distributing money, questioning Bhagwat whether RSS supported this practice.
"Whatever wrong BJP has done in the past, does RSS support it? BJP leaders are openly distributing money. Does RSS support buying votes? Dalit and Purvanchali votes are being cut on a large scale. Does RSS think this is right for democracy? Does RSS not think that BJP is weakening democracy?" Kejriwal wrote in his letter.

This came after AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar accused the BJP of trying to manipulate voters in the national capital. She claimed that in the Shadara constituency, BJP leader Vishal Bharadwaj submitted applications to strike off voters' names.
"BJP wants to cut the votes of the many Purvanchalis living in Delhi. One Vishal Bharadwaj of BJP gave applications for the deletion of voters' names in the Shadara constituency. When we raised our voices against it, then he stopped it," Kakkar said.
She also alleged that BJP leader Parvesh Sharma distributed money for votes and also sent an application to the Election Commission to delete some of the names of the voters from the list and another application to add some.
"In the New Delhi constituency, BJP leader Parvesh Sharma did the work of distributing money for votes. A BJP leader put an application in ECI for deletion of voters' names. There was another application to add names of voters. BJP is rattled," Kakkar added.

Arvind Kejriwal writes to RSS, questions whether it supports BJP's actions and past wrongdoings

Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, in season's greetings to the Chief Minister Atishi, took a dig at the ruling Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal. Saxena said that he was "hurt" after Kejriwal called Atishi a "temporary chief minister." In a letter to Atishi, the L-G wrote, "There is no such post in the Constitution, and it is a reprehensible neglect to the concept of democracy in the Constitution of Babasaheb Ambedkar." He claimed that Kejriwal's remarks were an insult to the Indian president who appointed her.&nbsp;
He further said that everyone knows the "circumstances" she was appointed in. Saxena listed down multiple areas where the Delhi government has failed and said that although Kejwriwal has admitted his government's shortcomings, the ultimate blame for the failure will be borne by Atishi. He said not much could be corrected in the short span of time left in the tenure as the assembly elections are due in February next year.&nbsp;

Delhi L-G VK Saxena felt ‘hurt’ on AAP chief Kejriwal calling Atishi ‘temporary CM’

Former Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal said on Monday (Dec 30) that his party would provide a monthly allowance of $210.5 (Rs 18,000) to Hindu temple priests and granthis of gurdwaras.
"Pujaris and granthis are an important part of our society, but they are often a neglected section. For the first time in the country, we are introducing a scheme to support them, under which they will receive a monthly allowance of Rs 18,000," Kejriwal said during a press conference.&nbsp;
The announcement of the scheme, called 'Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana,' came ahead of assembly elections in Delhi.&nbsp;
<h2>Registration for scheme to begin on Tuesday</h2>
Kejriwal said that the registration process for the scheme will begin on Tuesday. Kejriwal said that on Tuesday, he would visit the Hanuman Mandir in Delhi's Connaught Place to oversee the registration process of the priests.&nbsp;

<h2>Imams protest over delay in release of salaries</h2>
Kejriwal's decision to announce a monthly pay to Hindu temple priests and granthis of gurdwaras came hours after Imams of the Delhi Waqf Board launched a protest outside the AAP national convener's residence over a delay by the Delhi government in the release of their (Imams') salaries.
Speaking to the news agency ANI, All India Imam Association Chairman Sajid Rashidi said that the imams have not received their salaries for the last 17 months.&nbsp;

Singh added that AAP wanted to have an alliance with Congress in the Haryana assembly elections, but the grand old party didn't agree. "But the Congress disagreed. So we fought the election but did not utter an inappropriate word for Congress or its leaders. Show us one statement," said Singh.
<h2>What did Ajay Maken say?</h2>
It is to be noted that Congress&rsquo;s Ajay Maken released a 12-point "white paper" on Wednesday (Dec 25), accusing Kejriwal of not fulfilling the promise of setting up a Janlokpal in Delhi. "If there is one word to describe former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal here then it would be Farziwal," he said. "If anyone is the king of fraud in the entire country then it is Kejriwal and that is why we have come here with a white paper on the Kejriwal government and also on the BJP government at the Centre," Maken added.

His MLAs have not even been nice to their wives,” Gupta told news agency ANI. <h2>Kejriwal lashed out at BJP </h2>
Arvind Kejriwal held a press conference on Sunday (Dec 22) criticising the central government for its decision to not include Delhi’s tableau from the Republic Day parade. “Delhi is the capital of India, and its tableau should participate in the 26th January parade every year. For many years, Delhi’s tableau has not been allowed. What kind of politics is this? Why do they hate the people of Delhi so much?,” Kejriwal asked.
“The Centre has no vision for the people of Delhi. Why should the people vote for them?,” he said.
<h2>Virendra Sachdeva condemns Kejriwal </h2>
Other BJP leaders, including Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva and MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat, also condemned Kejriwal.
Virendra Sachdeva condemned the AAP leader for annihilating Delhi through corruption during his tenure. “Delhi is the capital of India, but whenever any national festival approaches, we see the anarchist nature of Arvind Kejriwal. We remember Republic Day 2014, when Kejriwal staged a protest. Now, he wants to do politics over the parade tableau,” Sachdeva said.
He added, “What does Kejriwal want to show in Delhi’s tableau? The sewer overflows that caused over 60 deaths or the ‘Sheeshmahal’ he built by looting public money?”

When election time comes, Kejriwal asks people to tell him their concerns. But basic issues like sewer cleaning in Rajinder Nagar remain unresolved. Three aspirants lost their lives because of you,” Sehrawat said.
