"I think especially the end of the second set I lost focus a little bit. I was not moving as well. I was not playing as well. But I think the first and third sets are big improvement to the other days." Zverev still found himself thanking fans who stayed until after 1:00 am. Thanks to a titanic tussle between Iva Jovic and Alexandra Eala in the first night match Zverev and Tabilo didn't take to the court until nearly 11:00 pm. Zverev will face Italian Luciano Darderi for a place in the quarter-finals after the 21st seed beat Australian wild card Dane Sweeny 6-4, 6-3, 6-3.

Zverev started strongly and looked in control early in the contest, but his level gradually dipped as Sinner increased the pressure. The world no 1 eventually took charge and extended his dominance over his rival. The defeat highlighted Zverev's recent struggles against Sinner. While their overall head-to-head record stands at 10 wins for Sinner from 14 meetings, the Italian has been almost unstoppable in their recent clashes, winning their last nine encounters. The German's comments reflected the growing rivalry between the two players, with Zverev acknowledging Sinner's incredible consistency at the highest level. Zverev has already overcome one major hurdle in his career by winning his maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open earlier this year. However, his next challenge will be finding a way to defeat Sinner again and eventually challenge him for the world no 1 ranking.

Why Alexander Zverev said 'I don’t really like you anymore' to world no 1 Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner delivered another masterclass on grass as he successfully defended his Wimbledon title with a hard-fought four-set victory over French Open champion Alexander Zverev in Sunday's men's singles final. The world no. 1 recovered after losing a tightly contested opening set in a match dominated by powerful serving, eventually wearing down Zverev to claim a 6-7 (7/9), 7-6 (7/2), 6-3, 6-4 victory. The win earned the Italian his first Grand Slam title since lifting the Wimbledon trophy 12 months ago and marked the fifth major championship of his career. Sinner also celebrated his 100th match victory at Grand Slam tournaments, moving within two major titles of injured rival Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner's consistency proved decisive as he struck 58 winners while committing only 25 unforced errors during a gripping three-hour, 46-minute battle on Centre Court. He remained composed against a confident Zverev, who entered the final riding a 13-match Grand Slam winning streak. The victory also erased the disappointment of Sinner's shock French Open second-round defeat to Juan Manuel Cerundolo, where he squandered a two-set advantage. His toughest test at Wimbledon came in the opening round, when he battled back from behind to defeat Miomir Kecmanovic in five sets. From that point onward, Sinner cruised through the draw, once again proving himself a dominant force on grass. The 24-year-old now boasts an impressive 44-3 win-loss record this season after capturing his sixth title of the year. For Zverev, reaching the Wimbledon final represented a remarkable turnaround. Having never advanced beyond the quarter-finals in his previous nine appearances at the All England Club, the German arrived in London full of confidence after finally winning his maiden Grand Slam title at Roland Garros. Although he became the first player in seven meetings to take the opening set off Sinner, Zverev was unable to halt his rival's dominance and has now lost 10 consecutive matches against the Italian. Despite the defeat, Zverev will rise above Carlos Alcaraz to world no. 2 in the ATP rankings on Monday. The German clutched his knee as Centre Court fell silent, with Sinner immediately crossing the net to check on his opponent before helping him back to his feet. The momentum shifted moments later as Sinner secured the decisive break when Zverev's serve finally cracked under pressure. Frustration boiled over for the German, who hurled his racket across the grass after sending a forehand long on break point following an exhausting rally that left Sinner sprawled on the court. Sinner then served out the set to love, finishing with an ace to move within one set of retaining his Wimbledon crown. Zverev fought hard to stay in the contest, but Sinner broke serve again for a 4-3 lead in the fourth set. The Italian calmly closed out the championship with a flawless service game, ending a dramatic final that featured two breathtaking rallies in the closing game. Alexander Zverev admits 'a lot of catching up' to reel in Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner reached the last four of the ATP Finals on Wednesday after beating Alexander Zverev 6-4, 6-3 to qualify from the Bjorn Borg group with a match to spare. World number one Sinner is bidding to retain his title at the prestigious end-of-season tournament and he cruised into the semi-finals in front of a delighted crowd in Turin. After that, I think it was a pretty good match." He sealed the contest with a big first serve in the second set tie-break. Medvedev earlier reached his third semi of the season. He is guaranteed to return to the Top 10 in the ATP rankings. Zverev, who last met Medvedev in the 2024 Australian Open semi-finals, said: "Definitely he's one of the toughest opponents in my career. It's going to be a great match and I'm really looking forward to facing him." In the other quarter-finals, Alexander Bublik, who claimed defending champion and world number one Jannik Sinner's scalp on Wednesday, eased past Tomas Machac to set up a last four date with eighth seed Karen Khachanov who despatched Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-3, 6-2. Bublik revealed his giant-killing Sinner success had cost him sleep. "I didn't have a really good night of sleep," the 2023 Halle winner said. “I tried to keep focused, but there are thoughts and everything on social media, receiving a lot of messages." World number one Aryna Sabalenka cruised into the Stuttgart Open semi-finals on Saturday while two-time champion Iga Swiatek lost to Jelena Ostapenko for the sixth time in as many meetings.
Sabalenka reached the last eight without striking a ball following a bye and walkover, and took time to find her rhythm against Elise Mertens before wrapping up a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Mertens broke for a 4-3 lead in the opening set but Sabalenka hit back right away and reeled off nine of the final 10 games to power into a semi-final showdown with Jasmine Paolini.
"Finally I played my match," Sabalenka said. "Never happened before that I play the first match on Saturday... Happy with the variety of the game I brought today on the court. Yeah, I think it was very decent game."
"I had a week to practice on these courts, so I felt pretty comfortable," she added.
There was a strange incident in the first set when Sabalenka took a photograph of a disputed ball mark after disagreeing with an "out" call on her shot when she was break point down. Sabalenka received a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct from the chair umpire but quickly regrouped to take control of the match, putting the distraction to one side.
"When I gave her a handshake, there was a very interesting look and a very strong handshake. Never had it before," Sabalenka said after her post-match exchange with Miriam Bley.
Sabalenka will next play fifth seed Paolini after the Italian swept aside fourth-ranked Coco Gauff 6-4, 6-3. Sabalenka beat Paolini in straight sets en route to the title in Miami last month.
A beaten finalist three times in a row from 2021 to 2023, Sabalenka has never won in Stuttgart. Ostapenko, ranked 24 in the world, won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in a clash of past and present French Open champions. Swiatek has now lost all six matches against the Latvian, with Saturday's defeat the first on clay.
Swiatek came into the match with an 11-1 record on the Stuttgart clay, but Ostapenko won the first four games and broke Swiatek's serve three times to win the opening set.
The Pole fought back to send the match to a deciding set, but Ostapenko regained control, winning 12 of the opening 15 points on the way to victory.
Ostapenko will face Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova in the semi-finals on Sunday, with the final on Monday. Alexandrova continued her underdog run by dumping out third seed Jessica Pegula in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4.
Pegula reached the final at the Miami Open in March and won the Charleston Open earlier in April but did not have an answer against her 22nd-ranked opponent, who knocked out Mirra Andreeva in the last 16.
After failing to win a game in the first set, Pegula saved three match points at 5-2 down in the second. She fought off two more at 5-4 but could not hold on.

Alcaraz to face Rune in Barcelona Open final

Carlos Alcaraz cruised into his third Barcelona Open final with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Arthur Fils on a breezy Saturday and will face Holger Rune, who demolished Karen Khachanov.
Eight days earlier, in the Monte Carlo quarterfinals, Frenchman Fils had won the first set and forced Alcaraz to fight for victory. On Saturday, the Spaniard took control from the start, breaking serve in the third and fifth games of the opening set as Fils struggled with the swirling conditions.
"I started the match really focused on my game and being in a good position every time to hit the right shots," Alcaraz said after the win.
Alcaraz broke again in the third game of the second set and only stuttered when he squandered his first two match points with a double fault and a wild drive, before clinching victory.
After winning in Monte Carlo last week, Alcaraz remains perfect on clay this season. He has not lost in Barcelona since 2021. He won the tournament in 2022 and 2023 before missing last year's event with an arm injury.
"Being in a final in Barcelona again means a lot in front of my people, in front of my friends," Alcaraz said.
Earlier, world number 13 Rune outclassed Khachanov 6-3, 6-2. The 21-year-old Dane did not face a break point in the first set, but broke to love in the seventh game and broke again in the ninth. Khachanov, ranked 27th, suffered another break in the second game of the second set, with Rune consolidating for a 3-0 lead.

The final is the 38th of Zverev's career and first since he lost to Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open in January. Zverev broke early in the opening set to run out to a 2-0 lead, but was broken back on the way to a tie-break, which the German dominated.
Marozsan fought hard but was pushed into repeated errors by Zverev, who increasingly had the home fans on his side. The 77th-ranked Marozsan fought off two match points but could not do so a third time, allowing Zverev to reach Sunday's final.
Earlier on Saturday, American world number 15 Shelton came from a set down to beat Argentine Francisco Cerundolo 2-6, 7-6 (9/7), 6-4. Outclassed in the opening set, the 22-year-old American's fightback began in the second with an early break.
Cerundolo, ranked 22nd in the world, hit back to force a tie-break, but Shelton won it to level the match. The players exchanged breaks to open the third set before Shelton broke again in the last game to pinch victory and reach the fourth ATP final of his career.
Shelton said after the match he was still working to improve on clay. "Not everything is straightforward and perfect on the clay. You're gonna get broken more... but you can also break more," said Shelton.

Aryna Sabalenka reaches Stuttgart semis as Ostapenko extends Swiatek mastery

Australia's Alex de Minaur put and end to Brazilian talent Joao Fonseca's challenge at the Miami Open, outlasting the 18-year-old 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 in an enthralling contest.
Attendance on stadium court had been sparse throughout Monday, but the Hard Rock Stadium turned into a mini-Maracana Stadium for Fonseca's match, complete with Brazilian flags and football-style chanting.
Fonseca brought his energetic brand of ultra-attacking tennis, but De Minaur was up to the challenge, coping with both the blistering forehands and the partisan crowd.
Such was the dominance of Fonseca's raucous support that the referee switched to Portuguese for his appeals for quiet. But de Minaur won six of the final seven games to move into the fourth round, keeping his cool even when the crowd, at times, disrupted his serve preparation.

"Mentally I was ready for this match, I knew I was not only going to play an incredible talent like Joao, playing with immense confidence and nothing to lose, but also an incredible crowd that was on his side from the first point until the last," de Minaur said.
"One of my biggest strengths is my mentality and that is what got me the win today," he added.
Top seed Alexander Zverev recovered from a slow start to power into the fourth round of the Miami Open with a 7-5, 6-4 win against Australia's Jordan Thompson.
The German was 4-1 down in the first set but then went on a roll, winning eight of the next nine games to progress. Zverev lost in the opening round at Indian Wells, but with Carlos Alcaraz already out in Miami he will fancy his chances of adding to his list of seven Masters 1000 titles.
Third-seed Taylor Fritz also moved into the fourth round beating Denis Shapovalov of Canada 7-5, 6-3. The American let slip a 5-2 lead in the first set, but regained control with his serve proving too much for Shapovalov.
In the women's draw, third-seed Coco Gauff's bid ended with a 6-4 6-4 loss to Poland's Magda Linette. Top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka eased her way into the last eight with a 6-4, 6-4 win over last year's winner Danielle Collins of the USA.
Next, Sabalenka will be up against ninth seeded Olympic gold medallist Zheng Qinwen who reached her second consecutive WTA 1000 quarter-final, with a straight-sets win over Ashlyn Krueger.
"I'm super happy to get this win in straight sets and happy with the level I played today," said Sabalenka. "She's a tough opponent, and we had a lot of tough and tricky matches in the past. So was very happy to get through this one," she added.

Paolini sinks Osaka

Italy's Jasmine Paolini enjoyed a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 comeback win over Naomi Osaka in 2 hours and 15 minutes. Since her comeback from maternity leave 15 months ago, Osaka has been showing some signs of getting back towards her best but Paolini was the first top 10 player Osaka has faced this year.
"I don't think that I can say that I've played a lot of matches against top players like this in a while," said Osaka.
"The way she plays kind of catches me off guard, simply because of her height. I didn't know she could hit like that," she added.
Emma Raducanu continued her impressive form in Miami, cruising to a 6-1, 6-3 in 69 minutes over American Amanda Anisimova, who had eliminated Indian Wells winner Mirra Andreeva on Sunday.
It is the first time Raducanu has won four straight WTA Tour main draw matches in a row since her US Open triumph in 2021. Raducanu, who has brought in some old faces from the early days of her career for this tournament, said she was benefitting from their presence.
"I feel pretty relaxed and can be myself and be expressive and true to myself. I'm really happy with how things are on and off the court right now and just so happy that's able to transfer on to the match court," she said.
Alexandra Eala, the 19-year-old from the Philippines who upset Australian Open champion Madison Keys on Sunday, was handed a place in the quarter-finals after her fourth round opponent, Spain's Paula Badosa, pulled out with a lower back injury.
In the last eight Eala will face the winner of Monday's match between Ukraine's Elina Svitolina and second-seed Iga Swiatek.
