The Indian squad for the 2025 Asia Cup will be announced on Tuesday (Aug 19) when the BCCI men’s selection committee meets in Mumbai. Ajit Agarkar-led panel already has plenty to look into and cater to, with countless options to choose from for each position. While they are contemplating selections of some of the top names, including Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer and even Mohammed Siraj, they have received a last-minute push to take a bold call and include uncapped teenager Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the squad for the continental tournament. All the talks around Team India‘s Asia Cup 2025 squad continue to take new turns every day, with the latest report suggesting that the men’s selection committee has finalised at least 14 players, with four players fighting for that one '15th' spot. Ajit Agarkar-led panel will meet in Mumbai on Tuesday (Aug 19) with T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav also joining them for the squad selection discussion. While several first-team players will retain their places, including the openers Abhishek Sharma and gloveman Sanju Samson, talks over excluding Test captain Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have also made headlines. However, the crucial point here is picking one of the four players for the final spot, including Rinku Singh, Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar and Riyan Parag. An Indian Express report suggests that the selectors are contemplating between picking a specific batter (in Iyer or Rinku) or choosing between all-rounders Parag and Sundar. Also read | India's probable Asia Cup 2025 squad: Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer in; Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj out Per the report, the selection committee is more inclined towards picking an extra batter, with Iyer likely to win the race ahead of Rinku Singh. Iyer's ability to play spin better, his leadership qualities, and experience (that he brings to the table) make him a handy customer in the middle order. Even on the recently concluded Test tour of England, Gambhir had four all-rounders, including Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ravindra Jadeja, all playing crucial roles throughout the series. As for Rinku and Parag, both are unlikely to get a nod ahead of the abovementioned players. While Rinku also played under Gambhir in KKR and Parag tasted little T20I success in Gautam’s reign, both could perhaps be picked for bilateral series; however, both remain part of India’s T20 WC pool.

The football transfer market is at its peak as big deals are on the table, while matters on-field have already begun with the resumption of the new season. Big deals like Florian Wirtz to Liverpool and Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United have already made the headlines, but few are yet to reach an agreement despite the season already kicking off. The likes of Alexander Isak and Eberechi Eze are making the rounds with the deadlines less than two weeks away. Here is a glance at five big deals that could happen from now until the end of the summer transfer window.
Alexander Isak (Current club: Newcastle United)
Sweden international, Alexander Isak, is a hot topic of debate as he remains on the books of Liverpool. Isak is a subject of a huge transfer deal for Liverpool as they are prepared to launch a bid in excess of $150 million. However, Newcastle United are reluctant to sell Isak, who was not in the squad for the opening weekend’s game against Aston Villa. Considering the player’s desire and Liverpool’s purchasing power, it is likely that the deal will go through.
Eberechi Eze (Current club: Crystal Palace)
The England international was earlier linked to Arsenal, but it is Tottenham Hotspur who are now in pole position to land Eberechi Eze. At the time of writing, Eze has already agreed personal terms with Spurs, but Palace are reluctant to offload him. Considering Spurs’ spending power and Eze’s preference, it is likely that the deal will go over the line before the window closes.
Marc Guéhi (Current club: Crystal Palace)
Marc Guéhi is another player pushing for a move away from the club as Liverpool look to take advantage of the contract situation. Guéhi runs out of contract at the end of the season and could leave on a free transfer. Palace’s desire to keep Guéhi this season could see them lose substantial cash as the player will be free to negotiate a move away from the club from January 1. ALSO READ | From Rohit Sharma to Virat Kohli, 5 Indian batters with most runs in Asia Cup (ODIs + T20Is)
Alejandro Garnacho (Current club: Manchester United)
Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho is on the move as well after his relationship with Ruben Amorim is getting sour. Garnacho was likely to move away from the club in the winter window, but no club wanted to risk big on the Argentinean forward who had attitude issues. As things stand, he could be a Chelsea player at the end of the transfer window with personal terms agreed.
Xavi Simmons (Current club: RB Leipzig)
Xavi Simmons’s journey with RB Leipzig is all but over as he prefers a move to Chelsea in the Premier League. He has already informed the club about his desire to leave, while Chelsea have all the spending power to land Simmons. The move looks more likely will go over the line.

Former Pakistan captain and star batter Babar Azam found no place in the side’s 17-man squad for the 2025 Asia Cup, announced on Sunday (Aug 17). The PCB dropped Babar and keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan from the T20 squad for the continental tournament starting September 9 in the UAE. Addressing the media, selector Aaqib Javed and new head coach Mike Hesson explained what prompted them to look beyond this star pair, with Hesson admitting that Babar was told to work on a few areas, including his strike rate in the middle overs and his game against spinners. “There is no doubt Babar’s been asked to improve in some areas around taking on spin and in terms of his strike rate. Pakistan selectors dropped Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan from the 2025 Asia Cup squad.

Those are things he is working really hard on,” the coach Hesson said, as quoted by the ICC. Babar will feature for Sydney Sixers in the upcoming season of the Big Bash League (BBL), with Hesson pushing him to succeed in his maiden stint in franchise cricket Down Under. Shreyas Iyer could be on his way to the UAE for the second time in six months as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to announce the squad for the Asia Cup 2025. Expected to be announced on Tuesday (Aug 19), the selectors' panel, led by Ajit Agarkar, could bring a string of surprises to the squad, including the exclusions of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal. So here is a predicted 15-man squad that could travel to the UAE ahead of the Asia Cup 2025.
Samson, Iyer in
Turning to the openers, Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson are set to retain their place in the side, with both enjoying stellar run. Samson scored two centuries at the back end of 2024 in South Africa, while his ability to keep wickets comes as a welcome addition. With Shubman Gill unlikely to travel after Sunday’s media reports, either Ishan Kishan or Sai Sudharsan could be in frame as back-up opener. The middle order looks more than sorted with captain Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya and Rinku Singh to feature in the Playing XI. In this case, Shreyas Iyer will be more than a good back-up, having shown his class in the IPL. On the other hand, Jitesh Sharma should be the obvious choice as back-up wicketkeeper for Samson, even if Ishan Kishan is considered to make the 15-man squad. Looking at the all-rounder spots, Washington Sundar should act as back-up to Hardik, who has struggled with injuries at times but has the ability to win a match single-handedly. Spain's Jon Rahm captured his second consecutive LIV Golf season crown on Sunday, shooting an 11-under par 60 before losing a playoff to Colombia's Sebastian Munoz at LIV Golf Indianapolis. Munoz birdied the first playoff hole to beat Rahm for the Indy title after both finished on 22-under 191 through all 54 holes at Chatham Hills in the Saudi-backed series' last individual event of the year. "First time I've ever beat him, so really proud of that and happy I got to go home with the trophy," Munoz said. But Rahm's result, a second playoff loss in as many weeks, was enough to edge Chile's Joaquin Niemann in the season points chase for the second year in a row, delivering heartbreak on the campaign's last day as he did in 2024. "Still slightly bittersweet," Rahm said. "I know I'm supposed to be happy. It's a great moment. But it just doesn't feel great to finish the year losing two playoffs. "I'm sure over time I'll get over that and I really appreciate what I've done this year."Rahm won the season title without winning any LIV event while Niemann took titles this year in Adelaide, Singapore, Mexico City, Virginia and Britain. "It sucks," Niemann said. Jon Rahm's result, a second playoff loss in as many weeks, was enough to edge Chile's Joaquin Niemann in the season points chase for the second year in a row, delivering heartbreak on the campaign's last day as he did in 2024.

"I'm sure over time I'll get over that and I really appreciate what I've done this year." Rahm won the season title without winning any LIV event while Niemann took titles this year in Adelaide, Singapore, Mexico City, Virginia and Britain. "It sucks," Niemann said. "I started playing my best golf on the back nine, which I'm proud of, but at the end of the day, the putts didn't drop, and it wasn't enough. It's kind of hard to swallow." Rahm, a Masters and US Open champion, wasn't overjoyed about a season crown without a win all year. Westwood birdied four of his first five holes while Poulter birdied four of his last five to avoid the drop, each finishing on 201. Sweden's Henrik Stenson was dropped, however, after missing a birdie putt at the 18th that would have seen him avoid relegation at Poulter's expense. Niemann's Torque won the Indy team title, it's first triumph since 2023, but Rahm's Legion XIII holds the top seeding for next week's LIV Team Championship. Just a day after former cricketer-turned-broadcaster Sanjay Manjrekar commented on ace quick Jasprit Bumrah’s workload management, saying how he, and not the Indian Cricket, must be the one adjusting to the cramped cricket calendar, his commentary box mate Aakash Chopra and former India coach John Wright jumped to Bumrah’s support. While Wright took to social media to comment on the matter, arguing Manjrekar missed the point in Bumrah’s case, Chopra feared the worst, saying such remarks could lead to Bumrah's abrupt selection across formats, which could push him towards a potential early retirement.

"Indian cricket must not adjust for Bumrah, Bumrah must. That is, if he wants to. By making some tough choices or working even harder on his fitness, this fitness bar can be raised to whatever levels one wants, like all fast bowling greats have done before him," Manjrekar wrote in his column for the Hindustan Times. Bumrah’s workload management came to the limelight after he failed to feature in all Tests on the recently concluded UK tour, playing three of the five matches, as also suggested by the NCA and team doctors, considering his persistent back injuries. Though he (expectedly) excelled in his brief outings, picking 14 wickets across six innings and breaking multiple records alongside, he failed to help India win any game he played in. The visitors, however, won only those two matches where he didn’t feature, with the remaining quicks faring better in his absence. While Manjrekar picked up the same point, saying if a fast bowler (Bumrah here) is not 100% fit and available for selection for all matches (on an away tour), he shall not be leading the pace attack, Chopra admits accepting Bumrah’s case, for what he brings to the table (if he is 100%) and if that means that the team must rest or rotate him, so be it. "I will be honest, I don't think he will play all the Test matches. He is going to pick and choose. Whether it's right or wrong, it's not a moral or ethical debate, is what I think. If you have a player of that level available, play him whenever he can," Chopra said on his YouTube channel. "There is no bowler like Bumrah. Don't push him forcibly towards early retirement because he is 24-carat pure gold. He is the Kohinoor diamond. The longer he plays, the better it is. I don't think he will play too much Test cricket, but for however long he plays, I would say hold onto it," he continued. Meanwhile, Bumrah, who missed the final Test against England at the Oval due to niggle, is said to have made himself available for selection for the forthcoming 2025 Asia Cup.

The NCA and team doctors advised the Indian management against playing Bumrah in all matches (on away tours), protecting him from recurring back injuries.
