East Zone captain Ishan Kishan clobbered his highest first-class score of 270 against South Zone in the ongoing Duleep Trophy final in Chennai. Riding on his brilliant double hundred and a gritty century from Kumar Kushagra, East Zone posted their first-innings total in excess of 700 at stumps on day 2, marking only the third time in the tournament’s final history that a team has crossed the 700-run milestone. Resuming day two on 385 for four, Kishan (111*) and Kushagra (63*) began piling up runs and misery on South Zone bowlers. Mohammed Siraj, who went wicketless on day 1, tried hard – both with his pace and line and verbal volleys to unsettle the pair, but failed. MD Nidheesh too bowled his heart out with the new ball in his quest to break this partnership but tasted no success, as the two batters inched closer to their respective milestones. The two spinners, Tripurana Vijay and Shreyas Gopal, also kept persisting with defensive lines on either side of the drinks break but failed to provide any respite. Also read| Where to watch India vs Japan historic T20I: Channel and live streaming details The right-handed batter Kushagra completed his sixth first-class hundred soon after but lost his wicket before lunch on day two.

Kishan, on the other hand, took advantage of South Zone’s tired bowling attack and kept manoeuvring gaps for boundaries for fun, closing in on his double hundred. Nothing worked for Tilak Varma’s South Zone, which had also tried part-timers in Devdutt Padikkal, as Kishan completed his brilliant 200 in 270 balls.
WATCH the moment Kishan scored 200 vs South Zone -

Just when he crossed his 200-mark, Kishan upped the ante and began scoring quickly, with South Zone anticipating a declaration. Much to their disappointment, Kishan did not declare and kept cruising even after crossing 250. Although fatigue caught up with him as he walked out retired hurt, Kishan returned following Mohammed Shami’s dismissal on 28 to rack up more runs. He, however, failed to smash a triple hundred in this title match, after finding a fielder near long-on to depart on 270. South Zone could finally wrap up East Zone's innings on 708, with a mountain to climb should they seek a shocking turnaround from here in the Duleep Trophy final.

The ICC has penalised Pakistan women’s team captain Fatima Sana for her send-off to Indian opener Shafali Verma during their Asia Cup match in Dubai on Saturday (Sep 5). Sana has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee and handed a demerit point for her animated celebration after dismissing Verma in the first over of the run chase. It was Sana’s second offence in 24 months, taking her tally to two demerit points. The offence was a breach of Article 2.5 of the ICC's code of conduct for players and match officials, relating to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage, or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an international match". Chasing a mere 56, Verma took the attack to Pakistan’s new-ball bowler Sana for 10 runs in five balls, before a mistimed shot led to her dismissal, caught and bowled. Upbeat about dismissing the dangerous Verma, Sana pointed towards the dressing room as she celebrated the first wicket. That invited attention from the match officials, and subsequently a fine and demerit point. WATCH Sana's Celebration Also read| Former Pakistan selector Misbah-ul-haq calls out 'soft corner for foreign coaches' amid ongoing crisis On-field umpires Nimali Perera and Shathira Jakir Jesy, third umpire Rokeya Sultana, and fourth umpire Rabab Ahsan charged Sana for her celebration, and the Pakistan women’s team captain admitted to the infringement in her meeting with match referee Supriya Rani Das. Meanwhile, India won the match by seven wickets and sealed the top spot in Group A. At one stage, Pakistan was 27 for no loss and lost all wickets for the next 28 runs. While India had already punched their semifinal ticket even before facing Pakistan, Sana-led women’s team must beat Hong Kong on Monday evening to enter the last four of this edition.

Kevin Pietersen, former England captain and their poster boy during his cricketing days, has returned to England’s white-ball set-up as a ‘specialist mentor’, the board announced on Monday. Out-of-form Marnus Labuschagne can ‘still make a positive contribution’, chief Australia selector George Bailey said on Monday, after the struggling batter was thrown a lifeline for the Test tour of South Africa. Test number three, Labuschagne has failed to score a century since 2023 and flopped again in two home Tests against Bangladesh last month with scores of one, 31 and four. He was subsequently axed from Australia's squad for three One-Dayers in Zimbabwe and another three in South Africa preceding the Tests. But selectors opted against a red-ball change for what will be the team's first Test series in South Africa since the infamous "Sandpaper gate" ball-tampering scandal in 2018. "(We're) not shying away from the fact that we'd like some more runs from Marn (Marnus)... but we're also confident that he can still make a positive contribution to that squad," Bailey said. "Our batting group in its entirety, not just Marn, probably hasn't been functioning as successfully as we would like." Asked if the South Africa series would be Labuschagne's last chance, Bailey dodged the question. "No, I wouldn't say that. All-rounder Connolly's selection is another indication that the 23-year-old is seen as a long-term prospect, while Kuhnemann was preferred to Todd Murphy as the second spinner behind Nathan Lyon. Neser, who, like Labuschagne, was born in South Africa, provides back-up for the pace trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc. Bailey said Connolly was primarily chosen for his batting, most likely as a middle-order option but potentially as high as three. "His overall development will continue to expand his ability to bat in a range of positions," he said. Australia will travel to Durban for the first Test on October 9 before the series moves to Gqeberha and Cape Town for the remaining Tests. Only Cummins, Starc, Hazlewood, Lyon, Steve Smith and Matt Renshaw survive from their last Test series in South Africa, when Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were all sent home in shame. But again, it's a hypothetical, isn't it?" he said. Smith was banned for a year and sacked as captain after conspiring to alter the ball using sandpaper during the third Test in Cape Town, while the now-retired Warner, considered the ringleader, was suspended for 12 months and stripped of all leadership roles. Marnus Labuschagne retains his place in Australia's 16-man Test squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa. Chief selector George Bailey backs the struggling batter alongside new inclusions Cooper Connolly and Michael Neser.

Ultimate Frisbee, one of the world’s fastest-growing flying disc sports, is steadily establishing itself as a competitive sporting discipline in India. What began as a niche sport has evolved into a vibrant national community, with players, clubs, and state teams emerging across the country and an increasing number of Indian athletes earning the opportunity to represent the nation on the international stage. Ainsley Maitland-Niles marked his Everton debut with a superb strike, which was virtually the last kick of the game to snatch a 2-2 draw for the Toffees against Manchester United. Maitland-Niles's arrival from Lyon on the final day of the transfer window was overshadowed by Everton's failure to reinforce their attack. Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored a stunning 96th-minute equalizer on his debut as Everton twice came from behind to draw 2-2 against Manchester United at Goodison Park.

But the former Arsenal full-back lasered a long-range shot into the top corner in the 96th minute to punish a lackluster United performance. Bryan Mbeumo fired United in front inside the first minute of the second period. But an Everton side short on attacking options rallied to level through Tyrique George. Substitute Benjamin Sesko's header looked to have won United all three points. But the decision not to reinforce Michael Carrick's defence will face more scrutiny as United have conceded twice in all of their opening three games of the Premier League season. A miserable end to the window could still have ramifications for the teams’ performance over the rest of the season. After letting Iliman Ndiaye depart in a £65 million ($88 million) move to Manchester City and Beto to leave for Fiorentina, the Toffees expected to strengthen their forward line with the signing of Monaco's Folarin Balogun. An issue with the USA international's medical saw the clubs frantically renegotiate the structure of a £40 million deal but Balogun turned his back on the move. David Moyes has been left with only one natural striker to pick from in Thierno Barry as a result and only 18 outfield players. The return of Jack Grealish on loan for the season only slightly softened the blow as Moyes faces up to the realities of a possible relegation battle rather than a challenge for European football. Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick as United thrashed Ipswich 5-2 last weekend to get their season up and running after a dreadful 2-0 defeat at Hull. The United captain came closest to breaking the deadlock in a first half otherwise devoid of quality when his volley came back off the crossbar. A sleepy start to the second by Moyes's men proved costly as Mbeumo was allowed to bear down on goal on his favoured left foot and arrow a shot beyond Jordan Pickford. United failed to build on their advantage. The introduction of Grealish off the bench lifted the home crowd and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall twice failed to connect sweetly with clear sights of goal. But the visitors' luck ran out seven minutes from time when Hayden Hackney fed George and the former Chelsea winger blasted into the top corner from a narrow angle. Sesko's involvement has been limited at the start of the campaign due to an injury in pre-season, but the Slovenian looked sharp as he stooped to head in Luke Shaw's cross to restore United's lead. The Red Devils never looked comfortable at the back but could not have foreseen the manner of the equaliser. United looked to have cleared the danger with the five minutes of added time up, but the ball broke to Maitland-Niles who swept a curling shot into the top corner.

Pakistan has beaten India only once across both World Cup formats (ODI and T20I): during the 2021 T20 WC clash in Dubai. Test captain Babar Azam and keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan stitched a stunning 152-run stand for the opening wicket as Pakistan chased the target with 10 wickets remaining. While that win was monumental for the Men in Green, considering they had not beaten India on the biggest stage until then, it had its cons too, with former Pakistan batter Mohammad Yousuf pointing out how it damaged Pakistan cricket more. Ironically, India worked on its T20 approach following that edition and later won two back-to-back T20 World Cups in 2024 and 2026; the opposite happened for their arch-rivals. Possessing emerging superstars in their ranks during that Dubai T20 World Cup fixture in 2021, including Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi, Pakistan’s cricket went downhill after that crushing win, with Yousuf explaining how. “That match which we won against India in 2021, that damaged us a lot. If you behave with your collar raised and get disrespectful, problems will arrive. And a lot of them have arrived in Pakistan cricket,” said Yousuf in a conversation on Samaa TV. Exposing loopholes in the Pakistan Team following Dubai’s miracle, Yousuf revealed how success went to their heads, and all began chasing Pakistan’s captaincy. “Everyone in the team was trying to become the captain of the Pakistan team. The consequences are still hurting Pakistan cricket. Look at all the cricket Pakistan has played in the last four to five years, from ODI World Cups, T20 World Cups to Asia Cups and Champions Trophy. There has been terrible cricket. The PCB has been supporting you throughout. So many coaches have come and gone, so many things have changed just to try and help the Pakistan team. But no player has stood up and taken responsibility. Eventually, PCB had to take a step that it did. I back what PCB did,” added Yousuf.
Yousuf on PCB Dropping 7 Players from UK Tour
Turmoil gripped Pakistan cricket after they lost at Lord’s and conceded the three-match Test series (2-0) with one game to go. Day one of the Duleep Trophy final is over, and Ishan Kishan’s East Zone is sitting in the driver’s seat. Captain Kishan scored an unbeaten 111, and fifties from Abhimanyu Easwaran (72), Shikhar Mohan (85) and Kumar Kushagra (63*) helped East Zone post 385 for four at stumps on the first day at Chepauk in Chennai. South Zone bowlers, including ace Indian quick Mohammed Siraj, struggled to break through, with left-arm medium pacer Chama V Milind returning with two wickets so far. Batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi too made a statement in his first-ever five-day first-class game, scoring a quickfire 44 at the top. Sooryavanshi and Easwaran opened the innings and added exactly 100 for the first wicket inside the first 15 overs. The left-hander carried his blistering form into the final by taking on India teammate Siraj early in the innings, smashing him for two fours and a six in one over. His fearless approach and stylish stroke-making forced South Zone captain Tilak Varma to spread his field inside the first session, with Vaibhav hammering five fours and a maximum during his brief stay. Also read| 'He has that hunger for India comeback': Ishan Kishan hails Mohammed Shami ahead of Duleep Trophy final WATCH Vaibhav smashing Siraj in Duleep Trophy Final –

Vaibhav’s dismissal brought Mohan to the crease, with the two adding 33 for the second wicket, before a mix-up led to Easwaran’s run-out on 72. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) seemed to have hit rock bottom following the Lord’s Test defeat. Misbah-ul-Haq, one of the four members, also tendered his resignation a day after the PCB made wholesale changes to the main-team roster, with the PCB rejecting it. Meanwhile, England lead the three-match series 2-0, with the final Test starting next Wednesday (Sep 9).

The PCB has reportedly confiscated the mobile phones of several Pakistan players ahead of the Edgbaston Test against England. Read more about the 'jail-like' environment and ICC rules.

Pakistan women’s team coach and mentor Wahab Riaz made a bizarre statement following his side’s seven-wicket defeat at the hands of India in the recently contested Asia Cup clash in Dubai. Batting first after winning the toss, Pakistan’s women’s cricket team was skittled out for just 55 – their lowest-ever T20I score before their arch-rivals completed the run chase to finish at the top of their group. Pakistan were 27 for no loss before losing all 10 wickets for just 28 runs to register an unwanted record. Despite this thrashing, Wahab said his team is the ‘best in this Asia Cup’, raising eyebrows. The team mentor said his team has skillful players and just needs to trust itself after this humiliation. With Pakistan needing one more win to qualify for the semifinals, their last group game against Hong Kong should help them. Also read| Women’s Asia Cup: India crush Pakistan by 7 wickets as no-handshake stance continues Addressing the media following a shocking loss, Wahab said, "I believe that all the players in our team are very skillful, and they just need to trust themselves. The players who were playing before, they have played a lot of World Cups and Asia Cups, but we weren't getting the results. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Pakistan got off to a flyer, scoring 27 runs inside the first five overs. Shafali Verma broke the opening stand by keeper-batter Muneeba Ali, bowled on 13. Unfortunately for Pakistan, the first wicket triggered a horror batting collapse as Pakistan lost all 10 wickets for the next 28 runs, registering their lowest T20I total of 55 all out in 18.1 overs. Superb bowling from the spin trio of Shree Charani, Prema Rawat and Deepti Sharma crushed any hope of Pakistan putting on a fighting total against their counterparts. While Charani and Rawat returned with three wickets each, Deepti picked up two, with Eyman Fatima getting out run out to complete 10 wickets. Shocked by the team’s batting performance, Pakistani captain Fatima Sana, who returned with three wickets during India’s chase, said, “We had a collapse in the batting and struggled throughout the whole innings.” “We know that (it was a) fresh wicket (on batting first), and we just wanted to put up the maximum total. We know we have a good bowling side,” she said. On her three-wicket spell at the top, Sana said, “But still, we lost the match; it doesn’t matter. Captain Harmanpreet and Deepti closed the run chase as India crushed Pakistan by seven wickets to top Group A. "Very important game for us, and really happy with the way the entire team performed today, because we talk about being ruthless, and I'm really happy with the way we performed," Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur reflected on the win. "All the bowlers, they were outstanding. India’s World Cup hero in the 2023 edition, fast bowler Mohammed Shami, hasn’t been in the selectors’ scheme of things since March 2025, but his East Zone captain Ishan Kishan feels the pacer has hunger in him for an India comeback. Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma -- India’s T20I mainstays -- will be up against each other as captains of East and South Zone, respectively, in the Duleep Trophy final starting Sunday (Sep 6) at Chepauk in Chennai. While they have plenty riding on their shoulders ahead of the marquee clash, switching formats and style of play remains their primary concern. As India will face Afghanistan across three T20Is starting Sep 13 in Delhi, three days after the last day of the Duleep Trophy final, the two addressed the challenges of switching their game quickly. Apart from Kishan and Tilak, batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who opens for East Zone, will also be part of the T20I squad for the Afghanistan series. Kishan said it’s never easy to switch formats this quickly. The East Zone captain, who plays in the middle order in domestic cricket but opens for India in T20Is, explained its challenges. Also read| Asian Games 2026: IOA tells BCCI 'no special treatment' for cricket, asks board to handle own logistics "I don't know. How do I tell you? It's just about knowing what format you are playing," Kishan said on the eve of the Duleep final at Chepauk. "Sometimes it gets difficult when you are playing a Test match and suddenly you have to go and start hitting from ball one and suddenly you have to go back to your domestic team and you have to play a whole different role. But at the same time, I feel, as professionals it's our job to adapt, we cannot be coming up with excuses after knowing this is like your routine for next few days. "So, it is better not to be in a situation where we have to make excuses, but at the same time be aware and be just mindful of what is going to happen, and I will be playing T20 after this. So, my job will be different [in T20Is], but still I feel we are getting two days of practice before the Afghanistan first game, so it will be more than enough, I feel,” Kishan said ahead of the Duleep Trophy final in Chennai. On the other hand, Tilak, who has frequently switched formats in recent months, also expressed similar concerns, adding that though all players are quick to adapt to the conditions, going from five-day cricket to a 20-over game isn’t the easiest option. "We have played enough domestic games; we have played in every condition, so we can adjust to the conditions," Tilak Varma said. "But it will be slightly challenging playing five days here and again joining the [T20I] team. But from here we are going to Delhi; there will be two days of break, so we can practice there and we have enough time as well, but it will be slightly challenging. We know how to change our mindsets and maintain our body with good fluids and everything, so we have played back-to-back games before in the domestic as well and international, so we are quite used to it,” he added. Meanwhile, the 2026 Duleep Trophy final will see two top and star-studded teams facing off for the coveted prize, with several A-listers ready to grace the occasion.

Pakistan cricket faces fresh turmoil after its three senior players: keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, opener Imam-ul-Haq and middle-order batter Salman Ali Agha, were reported for behavioural issues within the dressing room. These three players, alongside four others and two coaches, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Umar Gul, were all sent home after Pakistan lost the second Test at Lord’s and conceded the three-match series 2-0, with one game to play. While their lean form remained the prime factor in their exit midway through the tour, behavioural issues made things worse for the trio. Salman Agha captained Pakistan in the series opener at Headingley in Babar Azam’s absence, out with a finger injury. The visitors lost the first Test by an innings and 103 runs. Despite Babar returning for the Lord’s Test, the results did not change for Pakistan as they lost the second Test by 194 runs, having failed to cross 200 across two innings.
