Indian-origin USA stars ready to face India in 'emotional battle' at T20 WC
USA’s win over Pakistan at the 2024 T20 World Cup stage was the mother of all upsets, and what stood out was that it was mostly an 'Indian' team. Several Indian-origin players on the American team seem to have enjoyed the victory a lot. However, their next clash is against Team India at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday (June 12), and Saurabh Netravalkar, the bowler who defended 19 runs against Pakistan in the super over, opened up on facing India and some of his ex-mates, including Suryakumar Yadav.
With two wins in as many matches, the co-hosts of the tournament, the USA, is sitting at the top of the points table, and a win over India or Ireland in their remaining two games will seal their spot in Super Eight.
Although they looked settled as a unit, taking down India would require plenty more than just a good day of cricket. That, however, is not even the biggest worry for Netravalkar, who admits feeling a bit emotional going against the country he represented at the U-19 level.
Speaking to the ANI news agency, Netravalkar said India is the top team in the world and that playing against them would be a huge learning curve for the cricket’s newbies.

“It is one of the top teams in the world. So, obviously, we will get to watch and learn how they play and how they approach.

“I had played with a few players in the team (Team India) as a child, like Suryakumar Yadav. We played together since U15. So, it would feel good to meet them. I am happy for them; it would also be an emotional moment for me. It would be a good challenge for us...My focus would be to see what is my role in this team (Team USA)...I will give my best for my team and I will try to execute my plan and also enjoy my game,” Netravalkar said.
Harmeet speaks on beating Pakistan
Harmeet Singh and Netravalkar were part of India’s Under-19 World Cup squads in 2012 and 2010, respectively, and switched bases to the US later on, in search of better prospects.
However, having plied their trade in the USA Cricket Team for some time now, they know what it meant for them to win over the former champions like Pakistan.
Also, considering their form lately (having beaten Bangladesh in home T20Is and knocking Canada in their tournament opener), Team USA walked in with their heads held high against Pakistan.
"We have been playing really well for the last few months... We knew Pakistan had recently lost 2 tournaments and T20 is a format that works on momentum... When we had to play against Pakistan, we had nothing to lose, nevertheless, we played our best game,” Harmeet Singh said in a chat with ANI.
Meanwhile, Team India's next game is against arch-rivals Pakistan in New York on Sunday (June 9).
