IPL 2024: Blow to LSG as Mayank Yadav out for two matches, confirms coach Langer

Injured Lucknow Super Giants seamer Mayank Yadav will miss his side's next two matches, head coach Justin Langer confirmed ahead of Delhi Capitals clash in IPL 2024. Yadav, who turned heads with his searing pace clubbed with wicket-taking line and length, bowled just one over against Gujarat Titans in his last game before leaving the field.

Speaking to the media, Langer confirmed that Mayank suffered stiffness in his hip in the lead-up to thegame, and upon delivering his first over, he was taken out. Right after the game, he underwent required tests, with reports suggesting the seamer suffered 'soreness in lower abdominal' and will be rested on precautionary grounds.

"He felt a little bit of tightness at the top of his hip leading into the last game, but that was about a one-out-of-ten pain, and we thought that there were clinical signs," Langer said in a pre-match presser on Thursday.

"Everything through the doctors and the physios seemed perfectly okay. He bowled that first over [against Titans] and started feeling something in his hip.

"But we had an MRI scan, and there is a very, very small swelling in there. So we are very hopeful he'll start building himself up and be back bowling again soon," the head coach added.

Mayank to be ready for CSK tie

With Lucknow hosting Delhi on Friday (April 12) and then travelling to Kolkata to face KKR just two days later, Langer said such tight scheduling made it tougher for the India seamer to recover and get ready for that match.

He, however, pointed out that the game against Chennai Super Kings (on April 19) could see Mayank's return to the field.

"That's the plan [to have Mayank fit for the match against Chennai Super Kings on April 19]. We want him to play every game if possible," Langer said.

"But he'll be working towards it; he's working very hard every day to be ready for whatever our next game is. He won't play tomorrow; it's unlikely... with the very short turnaround, it's unlikely that he plays these two games. But he's certainly working towards playing whenever he possibly can," he continued.

Meanwhile, Mayank made headlines on his IPL debut against Punjab Kings in the home game, picking three for 27 in his four overs, helping his team win a crunch tie. His next outing against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru saw him pickas many wickets and the Player of the Match award for the second successive game.
