Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy also attacked Rama Rao for these alleged irregularities, saying about Rs 500 crore was saved with the state government under him deciding against further transfer of funds to the organisers of the racing event.

Though the race was supposed to be held in February this year as well, it was cancelled after the Congress government assumed office in December 2023.

Probe revealed that the ferry was licensed to carry only 84 passengers and six crew members but was overloaded, violating the Inland Vessel Act. Following the incident, the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) revoked the ferry’s license. Colaba police have filed a case against the Navy craft’s operator under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for negligence, reckless navigation, and endangering public safety. The Navy has launched its own internal inquiry into the collision, one of the most serious accidents in Mumbai’s harbour area. The Navy craft involved is currently in custody, authorities told PTI. “Knowing that my son is my weakness, she began using him against me. Whenever I tried to video call to see my son, she refused, saying the child was asleep,” the man said in the post.&nbsp;

“When she realised that her manipulations were not working, she filed a false domestic violence case against me,” the man claimed in the post.&nbsp;

He further alleged that it's been 18 months since their marriage and for 13 months they have been living separately. Still, his wife has&nbsp;not filed for a divorce as she might not be able to get what she has been demanding in terms of money, he claimed.

Another Atul Subhash? Gurugram man accuses wife of fake case and harassment

On Thursday, an FIR was registered against Gandhi at Parliament Street Police following a BJP’s complaint, accusing him of physical assault and incitement after MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were injured.
The FIR has been registered under sections 115 (voluntary causing hurt), 117 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 125 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
“We have transferred the case from local police to the Crime Branch,” a senior officer said, adding that police are likely to record the statements of Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput and may also call Gandhi for questioning.

Meanwhile, police have sought legal advice on registering a separate FIR in response to a complaint filed by the Congress, accusing BJP MPs of misbehaving with party chief Mallikarjun Kharge on the Parliament premises.
“We are taking legal opinion if the Congress leaders’ complaint can be converted into the FIR,” another police officer said, adding that a decision on this will be taken soon.
Talking about the investigation in the case against Gandhi, the officer said police would seek access to CCTV footage of the area where the incident occurred and also reach out to media houses to inquire about any video evidence they may have.
Police will also recreate the scene of crime if required during the investigation, the source said.
On Thursday, BJP MP Hemang Joshi, accompanied by party colleagues Anurag Thakur and Bansuri Swaraj, visited the Parliament Street police station and filed the complaint.

Addressing a press conference, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "We have registered our strong protest on this issue with the Bangladesh side. We understand that the post being referred to has reportedly been taken down."
"We would like to remind all concerned to be mindful of their public comments," Jaiswal added.

A few days back, senior Bangladeshi leader Mahfuj Alam who is serving as an advisor in Yunus' interim government, shared a post on social media that had a map that included India's eastern and northeastern territories of Bengal, Assam, and Tripura. 
However, the post was deleted two hours later.
In a post on X shared by Bangladeshi non-profit organisation Bangladesh Watch, Alam alleged that India maintained a "contain" and "ghettoize" policy towards his country.

In his post, Chopra shared a graphic that said, “Still can’t speak Kannada after years in Bengaluru? It’s OK. Aa jao Dilli. We are looking for engineers who wish to stay close to home". 
Chopra wrote while sharing the graphic,  “We are not saying Delhi NCR is better. Only that it really is". The post reignited the old-age Delhi vs Bengaluru debate.

Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have been battling severe cold wave conditions for the last many weeks with Srinagar recording the season's lowest temperature at minus 6.2 degrees. The severity of the cold wave across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has intensified further due to clear skies and no precipitation.
Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region have been continuously reeling under excruciating cold waves and the temperatures across the division are recorded below freezing point. South Kashmir remains one of the coldest areas in the Kashmir division.

The Larnoo area in South Kashmir recorded the temperature at minus 9.1 degrees. The tourist resort of Pahalgam recorded the minimum temperature at minus 8.2 degrees while the Shopian district was the coldest in the valley at minus 10 degrees Celsius. The World-Famous Ski resort in North Kashmir's Baramulla district recorded the minimum temperature at minus 6 degrees and Sonamarg Tourist resort saw the night temperature dip to minus 9 degrees.  
South Kashmir's Pulwama district recorded the minimum temperature at minus 9.5 degrees. Bandipora was at minus 7.3 and Baramulla was at minus 5.9 degrees.  
Ladakh region has been battling the cold wave as well. The Leh town recorded the temperature at minus 11.8 degrees, while Kargil was at minus 13.8 degrees. The coldest place in North India was Zojila with temperatures dipping to minus 24 degrees.
The MeT Department of Kashmir Valley has attributed the weather condition to the La Nina effect which means cooler than average sea surface temperatures across the central and eastern Pacific. This weather change mostly impacts the wind circulation patterns leading to more rains and snow.
The MeT department has predicted the winter period to prolong and be very harsh in terms of temperature, rains and snow. As we head towards the 'Chillai Kalan, which is the coldest period of 40 days starting December 21, the La Nina effect will multiply the impact of cold and precipitation in the valley.
The Met Department has predicted generally dry weather till December 21. There are chances of snow from 21 December, but the weather will again be dry from December 23 which means a further dip in the temperature.

Speaking about the visit during the special briefing on Prime Minister’s visit to Kuwait, Secretary (CPV &amp; OIA) Arun Kumar Chatterjee said, "PM Modi will undertake a visit to Kuwait on 21st and 22nd December at the invitation of Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of Kuwait. This marks the first visit by an Indian PM to Kuwait in 43 years...There are excellent political relations between the two countries...India ranks among Kuwait's top trading partners with bilateral trade between the two countries at more than US$ 10 billion during the year 2023-24...Kuwait also remains a reliable energy partner for India."
Prime Minister Modi will be welcomed with a ceremonial guard of honour at the Bayan Palace. He is scheduled to hold meetings with Kuwait's Emir and Crown Prince, followed by delegation-level talks with the Kuwaiti Prime Minister. The Crown Prince will host a banquet in his honour.

After the embarrassing ruckus that took place on Thursday, the ruling BJP has filed a Police complaint against Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi for "physical assault and incitement".
In response, the Opposition Congress party has filed a Police complaint against BJP MPs for pushing Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and "physically manhandling" Rahul Gandhi. On Friday, the Lower House of Parliament Lok Sabha and the Upper House Rajya Sabha have been adjourned sine die(without any future date specified for resumption). 
<h2>How it all began...</h2>
The political slugfest erupted after Home Minister Amit Shah's statement on BR Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha during a debate on the '75th year of the adoption of the Indian Constitution'. Taking a dig at the Congress-led opposition, Amit Shah mentioned that, “it has become a trend to repeat Ambedkar’s name over and over. If they had chanted God’s name as much, they would have attained heaven in seven lifetimes”(remarks originally made in Hindi).
Shah expressed happiness that more people were taking Ambedkar's name these days but also went on to list out what he cited as injustices meted out by the Congress Party. Shah also reminded everyone that Ambedkar had to quit the first cabinet led by Jawaharlal Nehru, due to his disagreement with the Congress government's policies.

Opposition Parliamentarians considered Shah's remarks as an insult to Ambedkar and started their protests and social media offensive. Rahul Gandhi said, “Those who believe in Manusmriti will definitely have problems with Ambedkar ji.” The Congress party alleged that Shah’s remarks during a debate on the Constitution show that the BJP and the RSS leaders have a “lot of hatred” for Ambedkar.
Shah accused the Congress of sharing a trimmed version of his speech. As the controversy escalated, Congress MPs began demanding the resignation of the Home Minister for allegedly insulting Ambedkar. Prime Minister Modi came to the defence of Amit Shah, and accused the Congress of "theatrics". 
<h2>The scuffle in Parliament </h2>
On Thursday, the ruling BJP-led NDA and opposition INDIA bloc representatives had staged a protest in the Parliament premises, when a scuffle broke out between the two sides. Two BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were injured and later hospitalised. 
BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi has alleged that he was hurt after getting a push from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Sarangi claimed that he was standing on the stairs when another member of Parliament fell on him, leading to an injury on his head. Further, a woman BJP MP accused Rahul Gandhi of "misbehaving" with her. BJP's Phangnon Konyak alleged that Rahul Gandhi shouted at her when she was protesting at the Parliament premises.
"Today while protesting, it was a peaceful protest. I was standing outside just below the staircase of Makar Dwar. Something happened to me for which I feel really disheartened. Leader of Opposition of Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi ji came in very close proximity to me. I really felt very uncomfortable and he started shouting at me which I felt is very unbecoming of a leader of the opposition," Konyak said. The BJP MP from Nagaland said that she could have defended herself but did not do so.
Congress ally DMK's Tiruchi Siva contested the claims made by the ruling party MPs. “This is the version of one side. There was a demonstration going on outside and Mr Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the other house, is a very senior person and he has complained that he was only pushed. We respect all elder members. We respect every woman in this country. Nothing has happened of that sort,” he said.
<h2>The legacy of Dr BR Ambedkar</h2>
Ambedkar's legacy as a socio-political reformer continues to have a significant effect on modern India, so much so that Ambedkar is equated to God by his followers. He holds a social and political influence on Indian society, thanks to the social justice movement which empowered backward and suppressed classes in the country. His political philosophy has given rise to a large number of political parties, publications and workers' unions that remain active across India.
Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar (1891-1956) was born on 14 April 1891 in Mhow Cantonment, Madhya Pradesh. He completed his primary schooling in Satara, Maharashtra and his secondary education from Elphinstone High School in Bombay. His education was achieved in the face of significant discrimination, for he belonged to the Scheduled Caste (then considered as ‘untouchables’). In his autobiographical note ‘Waiting for a Visa’, he recalled how he was not allowed to drink water from the common water tap at his school.

Dr Ambedkar graduated from Bombay University in 1912 with a BA in Economics and Political Science. On account of his excellent performance at college, in 1913 he was awarded a scholarship by Sayajirao Gaikwad, then Maharaja (King) of Baroda state to pursue his MA and PhD at Columbia University in New York, USA. After Columbia, Dr. Ambedkar moved to London, where he registered at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to study economics, and enrolled in Grey’s Inn to study law. However, due to lack of funds, he had to return to India in 1917. In 1918, he became a Professor of Political Economy at Sydenham College, Mumbai (erstwhile Bombay). 
Dr Ambedkar founded Bahishkrit Hitkarini Sabha (Society for Welfare of the Ostracized) and led social movements such as Mahad Satyagraha in 1927 to demand justice and equal access to public resources for the historically oppressed castes of the Indian society. In the same year, he entered the Bombay Legislative Council as a nominated member.
In 1946, he was elected to the Constituent Assembly of India. On 15 August 1947, he took oath as the first Law Minister of independent India. Subsequently, he was elected Chairperson of the Drafting Committee of the Constituent Assembly and steered the process of drafting India’s Constitution. Mahavir Tyagi, a member of the Constituent Assembly, described Dr Ambedkar as “the main artist” who “laid aside his brush and unveiled the picture for the public to see and comment upon”.
Dr Rajendra Prasad, who presided over the Constituent Assembly and later became the first President of the Indian Republic, said: “Sitting in the Chair and watching the proceedings from day to day, I have realised as nobody else could have, with what zeal and devotion the members of the Drafting Committee and especially its Chairman, Dr Ambedkar in spite of his indifferent health, have worked. We could never make a decision which was or could be ever so right as when we put him on the Drafting Committee and made him its Chairman. He has not only justified his selection but has added lustre to the work which he has done.”
After the first General Election in 1952, he became a member of the Rajya Sabha. He was also awarded an honorary doctorate from Columbia University in the same year. In 1953, he was awarded another honorary doctorate from Osmania University, Hyderabad.

Two BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput were injured and later hospitalised. BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi has alleged that he was hurt after getting a push from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Sarangi claimed that he was standing on the stairs when another member of Parliament fell on him, leading to an injury on his head. Further, a woman BJP MP accused Rahul Gandhi of "misbehaving" with her. BJP's Phangnon Konyak alleged that Rahul Gandhi shouted at her when she was protesting at the Parliament premises. "Today while protesting, it was a peaceful protest. I was standing outside just below the staircase of Makar Dwar. Something happened to me for which I feel really disheartened. Leader of Opposition of Lok Sabha Shri Rahul Gandhi ji came in very close proximity to me. I really felt very uncomfortable and he started shouting at me which I felt is very unbecoming of a leader of the opposition," Konyak said. The BJP MP from Nagaland said that she could have defended herself but did not do so. Indian President Droupadi Murmu, taking to X, expressed her grief over the collision and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
"The news of the death of many people due to a road accident in Jaipur is very painful. I pray to God for peace to the departed souls. My deepest condolences to their families! I pray that the injured get well soon," she posted on X in Hindi.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a statement on X expressed his condolences and said that he talked to BJP's Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma and sought updates of the incident.
"The road accident in Jaipur, Rajasthan, is extremely sad. I express my deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this accident. I spoke to Chief Minister Shri @BhajanlalBjp ji in this regard. The local administration is working to provide immediate treatment to the injured. I wish the injured a speedy recovery."

At around 5:44 AM near Delhi Public School on the highway, the LPG tanker, travelling from Ajmer toward Jaipur while making a U-turn toward Ajmer, collided with a truck coming from Jaipur. The resulting impact triggered a gas leak which spread over a 200-metre radius before igniting into a massive fireball.
While seven people, including one unidentified woman and two men, have been confirmed dead, another 35, some with burns covering up to 70 per cent of their bodies, have been admitted to nearby SMS Hospital.

As per media reports, the woman, identified as Naga Tulsi had been constructing a house on land sanctioned by the government and had sought financial help from the Kshatriya Seva Samithi.

The organisation had initially sent her tiles for the construction. Later, Tulsi requested additional support for electrical appliances. In response, she received a WhatsApp message confirming that items such as lights, fans, and switches would be sent.
However, on Thursday (December 19) night, Tulsi was handed a package by a delivery person who claimed it contained the promised appliances. To her shock, upon opening the parcel, she discovered the decaying body of an unidentified man along with a letter threatening severe consequences if ₹1.3 crore (USD 0.15 million) was not paid. It remains unclear whether the letter was directed at Tulsi or someone in her family.

The police were immediately informed, and officers, including West Godavari Superintendent of Police Nayeem Asmi, visited the scene. The body was sent to a government hospital for a post-mortem examination. 
Preliminary results indicate that the man had been dead for four to five days. Authorities are working to identify the deceased, determine the cause of death, and uncover how the body ended up in the package. As part of the probe, representatives from the Kshatriya Seva Samithi have also been called in for questioning.

India: Woman opens parcel expecting appliances, finds dead body and ransom note inside

Jaipur, India
At least 11 people were killed and more than 40 injured in the Jaipur city of northern Indian state of Rajasthan Friday (Dec 20) following a collision between a goods truck and an LPG tanker. The incident happened on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway, causing a major fire incident at a fuel pump in the Bhankrota area. The goods truck was reportedly carrying chemicals.
Over 40 vehicles parked in the vicinity were also gutted in the fire.
More than 20 fire engines were rushed to the site to put out the fire.
Police helped the injured reach nearby hospitals.

The chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), widely regarded as the parent organisation of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has slammed the recent surge in temple-mosque disputes in the country in a rare rebuke of the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Mohan Bhagwat said that following the construction of the Ayodhya Ram Temple, some individuals were trying to rake up such sensitive issues, believing it could help them become “leaders of Hindus”.
"We have been living in harmony for a long time. If we want to provide this harmony to the world, we need to create a model of it. After the construction of the Ram Mandir, some people think they can become leaders of Hindus by raking up similar issues in new places. This is not acceptable," said the RSS chief at an event in the Pune city of the Western Indian state of Maharashtra.
Bhagwat also hailed India’s pluralistic society, referring to forthcoming Christmas celebrations in Ramakrishna Mission, saying, “only we can do this because we are Hindus".

The RSS chief said that the Ram Temple in Ayodhya was built because it was a matter of high significance for all Hindus. He added that new disputes between the Hindu and Muslim communities shouldn’t be allowed to dominate the discourse in society. "Every day a new matter (dispute) is being raked up. How can this be allowed? This cannot continue. India needs to show that we can live together," he added, without naming any ongoing dispute.
Bhagwat’s words of caution come weeks after the northern city of Sambhal was rocked by communal riots in November over the survey of a mosque.
Five people died in the violence, leading to multiple arrests and police cases. Not just that, courts have witnessed surge in pleas and petitions asking for surveys of mosques, claiming they were built after destroying temples.

Om Prakash Chautala served as the seventh CM of Haryana. He was the son of the sixth deputy prime minister of India, Chaudhary Devi Lal. 
The Indian politician held in his name the record for being the oldest prisoner of the Tihar Jail of Delhi (aged 87), when he was sent to jail in 2022.
Chautala is hailed as one of the major stalwarts of Indian politics; however, his career was also marked by controversies, including a recruitment scam that led to his imprisonment.

Who was Om Prakash Chautala? Former Haryana CM dies at 89 in Gurugram

A private school in Delhi's Dwarka area received a bomb threat on Friday, police said.
In response to the threat, emergency response teams have been dispatched to the school and classes have been shifted to online mode, Delhi Police said.
Further details are awaited.
This is not the first instance of such threats disrupting schools in the national capital.

On December 14, the Delhi Police Special Cell identified a student of a private school as the person who had sent a bomb threat email to the Paschim Vihar school.
According to police, the student had sent the threat email to his school, and after tracing the IP address, the police team traced his home. Upon questioning, the child admitted to the act and was later counselled. He was let off with a warning to his parents to keep a watch on his behaviour.
On December 14 and 17, several schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails. Furthermore, on December 13, a total of 30 schools across Delhi were targeted with hoax bomb threat emails.

South East Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ravi Kumar Singh speaking about the December 13 bomb threat said that an investigation into the fake threats revealed that the e-mails sent to the schools had been generated outside the country.
On December 13, Former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Friday voiced serious concerns about recurring bomb threats targeting schools in the national capital. Kejriwal questioned the potential psychological and academic impact on children, saying such incidents could disrupt their studies and well-being if they continue unabated.

According to police, the student had sent the threat email to his school, and after tracing the IP address, the police team traced his home. Upon questioning, the child admitted to the act and was later counselled. He was let off with a warning to his parents to keep a watch on his behaviour. On December 14 and 17, several schools in Delhi received bomb threat emails. Furthermore, on December 13, a total of 30 schools across Delhi were targeted with hoax bomb threat emails.
