<p>A forensic report submitted in Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital rape case has revealed that no evidence of struggle or resistance was found at the crime scene. The incident, in which a trainee medic was raped and murdered in the capital city of the eastern Indian state of West Bengal in August this year, had triggered massive movements and protests across the country. A report by the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), submitted to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has now raised some serious questions.</p>

<p>The report stated that experts found no evidence of scuffle or assault between the deceased and the attacker at the scene. Similarly, no such signs were found inside the seminar room as well.</p>

<p>The body of the deceased doctor was found inside the seminar hall on August 9. The CBI had filed a charge sheet against the prime accused, Sanjay Roy, in this case. Roy was identified as a civic volunteer linked to the Kolkata Police.</p>

<p>According to media reports, CFSL experts from Delhi analysed and examined the crime scene, including the mattress, on August 14, where the doctor had been reportedly assaulted.</p>

<p>Arvind Kejriwal held a press conference on Sunday (Dec 22) criticising the central government for its decision to not include Delhi’s tableau from the Republic Day parade. “Delhi is the capital of India, and its tableau should participate in the 26th January parade every year. For many years, Delhi’s tableau has not been allowed. What kind of politics is this? Why do they hate the people of Delhi so much?,” Kejriwal asked.</p>
<p>“The Centre has no vision for the people of Delhi. Why should the people vote for them?,” he said.</p>
<h2><strong>Virendra Sachdeva condemns Kejriwal </strong></h2>
<p>Other BJP leaders, including Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva and MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat, also condemned Kejriwal.</p>
<p>Virendra Sachdeva condemned the AAP leader for annihilating Delhi through corruption during his tenure. “Delhi is the capital of India, but whenever any national festival approaches, we see the anarchist nature of Arvind Kejriwal. We remember Republic Day 2014, when Kejriwal staged a protest. Now, he wants to do politics over the parade tableau,” Sachdeva said.</p>

<p>Following the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council’s clarification on the three different tax slabs for popcorn, Congress called it an “absurdity” and highlighted the system's increasing complexity on Sunday (Dec 22). The party also questioned whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Finance Ministry will show the courage to launch a remodelled GST 2.0.</p></p>
<p>On Saturday (Dec 21), Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman clarified the tax breakup of different types of popcorn during the GST Council, a video of which has gone viral on social media, sparking memes.</p>
<p>In the video, Sitharaman explains that ready-to-eat popcorn that has salt and spices is classified as ‘namkeens’ and attracts five per cent GST and 12 per cent on the pre-packaged and labelled ones. However, caramelised popcorn will attract 18 per cent GST as it is mixed with sugar.</p>

<p>“When you talk outside it looks silly… but during discussions with states in Fitment Committee on every item, it is clearly mentioned that things with added sugar are treated differently… be it drinks, carbonated drinks, juice… whatever has added sugar. This is why, till the time popcorn is salted, it attracts five per cent GST. But when it has added caramelised sugar, it is no longer namkeen, hence, its rate is different,” Sitharaman added.</p>

Recent data on tax frauds uncovered by the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) reveal GST evasion of Rs 2.01 lakh crore in FY24,” he described. </p>

<p>As soon as the accident occurred, locals rushed to help the victims and were able to send the six injured to a nearby hospital. When police arrived, they seized the dumper and cleared the footpath.</p>

<h2><strong>AQI levels soar high</strong></h2>

<p>The national capital's air quality on Sunday (22 Dec) soared to&nbsp;a high of&nbsp;409,&nbsp;24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) or&nbsp;'severe' level, said the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).</p>

<p>In some areas, AQI levels were recorded at 474, indicating dangerously high PM 2.5 levels.</p>

<p>In September, the central government discharged Khedkar from the Indian Administrative Services after allegations emerged that she had fabricated her identity to gain additional attempts in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Officials confirmed that her dismissal followed a formal enquiry into the allegations.</p>

<p>Khedkar is accused of providing false information in her 2022 UPSC Civil Services Examination application to claim reservation benefits. Both the Delhi Police and the UPSC opposed her plea for pre-arrest bail.</p>

<p>GST Council recently clarified the popcorn taxation structure at its 55th meeting on Saturday (Dec 21), in which caramelised, salted and plain popcorn are taxed differently based on their sugar content.</p>

<p>The GST is classified as 5 per cent on unpacked and unlabelled salted popcorn, 12 per cent on pre-packed and labelled ready-to-eat popcorn and 18 per cent on caramelised popcorn. <p>In India's Uttar Pradesh, on Monday (Dec 23), officials from UP Police and Punjab police, in a joint operation, killed three Khalistani terrorists accused of attacking a police post in Punjab's Gurdaspur district.</p>

<p>The operation took place in Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit. The three pro-Khalistani terrorists have been identified as Gurvinder Singh (25), Virender Singh alias Ravi (23), and Jaspreet Singh alias Pratap Singh (18), members of Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF), a banned terror outfit. The three men were shot down after they allegedly fired at the police party.</p>

<p>“When you talk outside it looks silly… but during discussions with states in Fitment Committee on every item, it is clearly mentioned that things with added sugar are treated differently… be it drinks, carbonated drinks, juice… whatever has added sugar. This is why, till the time popcorn is salted, it attracts five per cent GST. But when it has added caramelised sugar, it is no longer namkeen, hence, its rate is different,” Sitharaman added.</p>

<p>News agency IANS reported citing locals that around a dozen workers had arrived at the scene on Sunday (Dec 22) to work at different construction sites in the region.</p>

<p>Local police have now launched an investigation into the accident.</p>

<p>The victims have been identified as one-year-old Vaibhavi Ritesh Pawar, her two-year-old brother Vaibhav Ritest Pawar, and a 30-year-old named Rinesh N. Pawar. All of them were sleeping next to each other when the dumper ran over them.</p>

<p>As soon as the accident occurred, locals rushed to help the victims and were able to send the six injured to a nearby hospital. When police arrived, they seized the dumper and cleared the footpath.</p>

India: 44-year-old man learns to make bombs online, sends explosive to in-laws' home

<p>A tragic fire broke out in a residential home in Ghaziabad's Prashant Vihar area on Saturday (Dec 21), claiming the lives of two students. The fire was caused by mosquito-repellent sticks left burning by the victims as they slept. The victims, Arun and Vansh, were found unconscious after their father, Neeraj, woke up in a room filled with smoke and flames.</p></p>

<p>The incident occurred around 2:30 AM when the family of four was asleep. According to Neeraj, there was a power outage in the area due to ongoing maintenance work on electric lines. Unable to rely on electric fans for ventilation and troubled by mosquitoes, his children decided to light mosquito repellent sticks inside their room. They placed the sticks between two bricks and kept them under their bed while they slept, wrapped in blankets, with clothes also on the bed, as per NDTV report.</p>

<p>Neeraj was awakened by the intense smoke and fire emanating from his children's room. Rushing inside, he was confronted with the horrifying scene. Despite his efforts to save them, one of his children, Vansh, had already succumbed to the flames. Arun, the other victim, suffered severe burns and was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later declared dead by medical officials.</p>

<p>Neighbours attempted to extinguish the fire by filling buckets with water and breaking into the room, but their efforts came too late to save the two young victims.</p>

India: Mosquito repellent sticks spark deadly fire in home, two dead

<p>Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Sunday (Dec 22) that India can never allow others to veto its choices and would do everything right in its national interest and for the global welfare. </p></p>
<p>EAM Jaishankar further emphasised that independence could never be confused with neutrality. </p>
<p>"Independence should never be confused with neutrality. We will do whatever is right in our national interest and for the global good without being intimidated to conform. Bharat can never permit others to have a veto on its choices," he said in a video message for a function in Mumbai.</p>
<p>He further said that India had been "schooled too long to visualise progress and modernity as a rejection of our heritage and traditions."</p>
