The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) of India has taken departmental action against a constable for marrying a Pakistani woman without permission and for keeping his wife in India after her tourist visa had expired.
Constable Munir Ahmed had not taken a formal approval from his department on marring the Pakistani woman, which is a significant procedural violation and threat to national security, according to the CRPF.
Though Ahmed, currently posted in the 41st Battalion had submitted a request for permission to marry a Pakistani woman named Menal Khan, he did not wait for an approval from his department and reportedly got married to Menal through a WhatsApp video call on May 24, 2024.
The act has been termed by the CRPF as "unauthorised" for which a formal review and disciplinary process has been initiated against Ahmed.
According to the probe report, Constable Ahmed has violated the service conduct rules under 21(3) of the CCS (Conduct) Rules, 1964.

"As the instant case requires a policy decision being a case of marriage with Pakistani girl and matter of national security, the proposal was re-submitted to Headquarter, J&amp;K Zone, vide this office letter with opinion that NOC may not be granted and a policy decision should be taken for dealing with such type of cases," a senior departmental officer was quoted as saying by The New Indian Express.
"Wife of Munir Ahmed, namely Menal Khan, entered from Wagah Border in India through Pakistani Passport on a tourist visa which was valid up to 22/03/2025, but the individual has not informed the department that his wife is still residing in India after expiry of the visa. Further, he had stated that his wife had applied for a Long Term Visa but the fact was not informed by him to the department," the official further said.
After the CRPF initiated an inquiry, Munir Ahmed approached the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, which has given interim relief to his wife Menal Khan, allowing her to stay until the next hearing date, 14 May.&nbsp;

Goa stampede: 6 dead, over 50 injured after chaos at Lairai Devi temple

India has opened a multi-dimensional front against Pakistan in the aftermath of the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam and is strategically planning twin financial strikes on Islamabad to throttle support for cross-border terrorism. As per sources. India is initiating steps to actively pursue getting Pakistan back onto the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list. Besides, India has also raised concerns with the International Monetary Fund over its $7 billion aid package to Pakistan, alleging misuse of funds for terror-related activities. The deal for the three-year aid package was finalised in July 2024.
India has asked the IMF to review loans disbursed to Pakistan, said a Reuters report on Friday, citing an Indian government source. Pakistan secured a $7 billion bailout programme from the IMF last year and was granted a new $1.3 billion climate resilience loan in March. The programme is critical for Pakistan, which said it has stabilised under the bailout that helped it stave off a default threat.

The deal for the three-year aid package was finalised in July 2024. India has asked the IMF to review loans disbursed to Pakistan, said a Reuters report on Friday, citing an Indian government source. He said that they conducted “very productive meetings” with the IMF, World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and other International Financial Institutions. “While in the spring meetings in DC, we did about 70 meetings within (a) span of six days,” he said. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) investigating the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, including 25 tourists has in its preliminary report pointed to an operational nexus between Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and the Pakistan Army, reported ZEE News TV, citing sources.
According to the preliminary NIA report, the plan is believed to have been formalised at Lashkar-e-Taiba's headquarters in Pakistan, &nbsp;allegedly under directives issued by senior ISI operatives.&nbsp;
The source added that top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Farooq Ahmad played a pivotal role in the attack and is believed to be hiding in PoK (Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir).
The NIA investigation has helped nab close to 75 On Ground Workers (OGWs) connected to the Pahalgam terror attack. The &nbsp;national probe agency has intensified its crackdown on the people who allegedly helped the terrorists in executing the dastardly attack.

In India's Odisha, a student at Bhubaneshwar's Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) was found dead inside her hostel room on Thursday (May 1) evening. The student, as per reports, is of Nepali origins and is the second student to allegedly commit suicide inside the KIIT campus.&nbsp;
The student who was pursuing B.Tech at the institution has been identified as Prisa Sah by KIIT.

<h2>Who was Prisa Sah?</h2>
Prisa Sah was a first-year B.Tech student at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneshwar. Reports suggest that she was found hanging in her hostel room.&nbsp;
Authorities have suggested that it might be a case of suicide; however, they have yet to confirm. The investigation is underway.&nbsp;
IANS, citing a source in the Commissionerate Police, stated that the deceased student, Prisa Sah, was under severe mental stress due to relationship issues with her boyfriend. The boyfriend, as per the report, lives in Dehradun. However, the report did not specify what the issue, if any, was.

<h2>We mourn her loss</h2>
KIIT in a statement on X shared condolences and wrote: "We deeply mourn for the untimely demise of our beloved student, Ms. Prisha Sah. Today, all senior functionaries of KIIT gathered, expressed their heartfelt condolences and stand in solidarity with her family, friends, and the student community. May her soul rest in peace."
The Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekta Samaj has demanded a thorough investigation into the death of the student.
"We demand an investigation into this matter as soon as possible. We will also investigate the matter in detail, what happened and why she died... We want the accused should be arrested and punished," said Samar Bahadur, a member of the Samaj.
Amid uproar, KIIT has urged people from "spreading or believing unverified claims."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the Vizhinjam seaport in Thiruvananthapuram and stating that it will boost trade, commerce and will be particularly beneficial for Kerala's economy.

PM Modi who reached Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday night, took a helicopter to reach the port area this morning and took stock of the facilities before the inauguration of the 'Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport', which was completed at an estimated cost of Rs 8,900 crore.
In his public address, PM Modi said, "During the G20 summit, we had made agreements with several big nations on the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor. In this route, Kerala is in a very important position. Kerala is going to benefit in a big way from this...private sector plays a key role in bringing maritime sector of our country to a new high..."

The inauguration in Thiruvanathanpuram of the project, built by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), which is India's first deep-water dedicated container transhipment port, was conducted in the presence of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Governor of Kerala, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Union Ministers, Suresh Prabhu, George Kurien among others. Adani Group Chairperson Gautam Adani felicitated Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
PM Modi emphasised that the Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport is an example of "new-age development," as it is situated at one end of the deep sea, while on the other hand, it offers numerous opportunities, which is the beauty of nature.
"On one hand, there is this big sea with so many opportunities and on the other hand, there is beauty of nature, in between there is this 'Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multipurpose Seaport', which is a symbol of new-age development", PM Modi said in his address to the public.
The Prime Minister said the capacity of this transshipment hub will triple in the coming years, enabling the smooth arrival of some of the world's largest cargo ships. He said that that 75 per cent of India's transshipment operations were previously conducted at foreign ports, leading to significant revenue loss for the country.
Emphasizing that this situation is now set to change, PM Modi asserted that India's money will now serve India and the funds that once flowed outside the country will now generate new economic opportunities for Kerala and Vizhinjam's people.
Noting that Kerala played a significant role in this maritime strength and economic growth, PM Modi highlighted Kerala's historical role in maritime trade, emphasizing that through the Arabian Sea, India maintained trade links with multiple nations.
He noted that ships from Kerala carried goods to various countries, making it a vital hub for global commerce. "Today, the Government of India is committed to further strengthening this channel of economic power", he added and asserted, "India's coastal states and port cities will become key centers for the growth of a developed India".
"The port economy reaches its full potential when infrastructure and ease of doing business are promoted together", emphasised the Prime Minister, stating that over the past 10 years, this has been the blueprint of the Government of India's port and waterways policy.
He highlighted that the government has accelerated efforts for industrial activities and holistic development of states. He further remarked that the Government of India, in collaboration with state governments, has upgraded port infrastructure under the Sagarmala Project and strengthened port connectivity. He noted that under PM Gati Shakti, waterways, railways, highways, and airways are being rapidly integrated for seamless connectivity.
The Prime Minister stated that the Government of India has also reformed regulations concerning Indian seafarers, yielding significant results. He pointed out that in 2014, the number of Indian seafarers was below 1.25 lakh. Today, this figure has surged beyond 3.25 lakh. He emphasized that India now ranks among the top three countries globally in terms of seafarer numbers.
Highlighting that a decade ago, ships faced long waiting times at ports, significantly delaying unloading operations, PM Modi noted that this slowdown affected businesses, industries, and the overall economy. He stressed that the situation has now transformed and over the past 10 years, India's major ports have reduced ship turn-around time by 30 per cent, improving operational efficiency. He remarked that due to enhanced port efficiency, India is now handling greater cargo volumes in shorter durations, strengthening the nation's logistics and trade capabilities.
"India's maritime success is a result of a decade-long vision and effort", PM Modi said underlining that over the past 10 years, India has doubled the capacity of its ports and expanded its National Waterways eightfold.
He noted that today, two Indian ports are among the global top 30 ports, while India's ranking on the Logistics Performance Index has also improved. Additionally, he pointed out that India is now among the top 20 countries in global shipbuilding.

He noted that this year's Union Budget introduced a new policy to promote the construction of large ships in India, which will significantly boost the manufacturing sector. As per a statement released on Thursday (May 1), "This will be the first airstrip in the country designed to support day and night landings of fighter aircraft, making it a strategic asset for defence preparedness. It will also serve as the Air Force's training and rehearsal base."

A murder-accused and former Bajrang Dal activist identified as Suhas Shetty was hacked to death in broad daylight on Thursday (May 1) in Mangaluru. Reacting to the incident, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said that four separate police teams have been constituted to apprehend those behind the murder. &ldquo;A murder took place in Mangaluru yesterday evening. We have taken serious note of the incident. Four different teams have been formed to trace the culprits. Such acts should not disrupt the peace and harmony we strive to maintain in Dakshina Kannada,&rdquo; Parameshwara told reporters in Bengaluru.
Responding to allegations by Leader of Opposition R. Ashok and other BJP leaders that &ldquo;Hindu activists&rdquo; were not safe under the Congress regime, Parameshwara said that such analysis was politically motivated. &ldquo;Aren&rsquo;t we in Congress also Hindus?&rdquo; he asked.

He claimed that Kejriwal was denying Haryana the water to avenge his party's defeat in Delhi and was instigating Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to deny more water to Haryana.

"Haryana has already used its allocated share of water. This water is meant for the period from May 21 to the next May 21, which they have already used up by March. Now, they are asking for unnecessary water that Punjab does not have. We have fixed our canal system, and our paddy season is also coming up, during which we have our own water demand. Our groundwater level has dropped to 600 feet, and we need to conserve that as well," said the Punjab CM.
