The Union government has announced new domicile and reservation policies for the Union Territory of Ladakh through a number of notifications and has reserved 85 per cent of the jobs for local residents besides allotting one-third of the total number of seats in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils for women.&nbsp;The government’s announcements are aimed at safeguarding the interests of local people in Ladakh as they have been protesting for constitutional safeguards to protect their language, culture, and land after the special status of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 was abrogated in 2019.&nbsp;The new rules take effect immediately, state the official notifications.&nbsp;&nbsp;English, Hindi, Urdu, Bhoti, and Purgi languages have been made the official languages in Ladakh, but English shall continue to be used for all the official purposes of the UT for which it was being used before the date of commencement of this regulation.The administrator of the UT will strengthen the institutional mechanisms for the promotion and development of other languages in Ladakh and the establishment of the Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.&nbsp;<h2>Key highlights of new rules</h2>&nbsp;&nbsp;Under the new domicile rules, all those who have resided for a period of 15 years in the UT or studied for a period of seven years and appeared in class 10 or 12 examination in an educational institution located in the UT shall be domicile of Ladakh for the purposes of appointment to any post under the UT or under a local or other authority other than the cantonment board.Children of central government officials, All India Services Officers, officials of public sector undertakings and autonomous bodies of central government, public sector banks, statutory bodies, central universities, and recognised research institutes of central government who have served in the UT for a total period of 10 years will also be eligible for domicile.&nbsp;Reservation for the economically weaker sections (EWS) continues to be 10 per cent.&nbsp;As per the new rules, not less than one-third of the total number of seats in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils shall be reserved for women and such seats may be allotted by rotation to different territorial constituencies.&nbsp;The domicile certificate will be valid only for the purpose of appointment to the posts under the UT of Ladakh as defined in the Ladakh Civil Services Decentralisation and Recruitment (Amendment) Regulation, 2025.&nbsp;The new rules were announced after months of protests and negotiations. Multiple attacks were launched and in some manner, they have escalated this conflict, which we had actually hit only terror targets,” he said.<h2>India responded swiftly, halted Pakistani operations in 8 hours</h2>General Chauhan added that the escalation did not go according to Pakistan’s plan. “Operations, which Pakistan thought would continue for 48 hours, folded up in about eight hours,” he said.In response to Pakistan’s offensive, India struck back by targeting several key airbases across the border, including Nur Khan, Murid, and Rafiqui. Three seperate order were issued on June 3 by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir's General Administartion Department for Malik Ishfaq Naseer, Constable in the Jammu and Kashmir Police Department resident of Anantnag District; Ajaz Ahmed, a teacher in the school education department resident of Poonch District and Waseem Ahmad Khan, a Junior Assistant in Government Medical College resident of Srinagar.“These terminations have been carried out in the interest of the security of the state," read the government order.&nbsp;The order also states that the government is satisfied after considering the “fact and circumstances of the case", that there are sufficiet evidence that can bypass the standard enquiry process.&nbsp;The government is signalling that there will be zero tolerance for internal security threats in the wake of the brutal Pahalgham attack, however this also raises concern over the transparency, natural justice and potential of witch hunting.&nbsp;

Demanding an action against the hospital administration and the government, party leader Aditya Paswan said the state government is “running on ventilators”.&nbsp;According to news agency ANI, the 10-year-old girl was first under treatment at the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur for severe neck and internal injuries. The girl was then referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), where she waited for hours in the ambulance before finally being admitted, the Congress said.&nbsp;Dr Abhijit Singh, the PMCH in-charge superintendent, told ANI, “After she arrived here, the doctor examined her in the ambulance. She was taken to the ICU, and doctors from all departments treated her for the entire night.”&nbsp;However, the girl’s uncle, Virendra Paswan, accused the hospital administration of negligence, saying she was kept in the ambulance for three hours before being admitted to the hospital.&nbsp;“The doctors referred us to Patna, but we didn't like it there either. It's not a good hospital. Yesterday, we came, and we waited for three hours in an ambulance. When everyone started creating a ruckus, they admitted her at 4 o'clock. There was no convenience for anything. The child was uneasy and started crying at night. The doctors got upset and gave sleeping medicine to the child all night long, and at eight o'clock in the morning, she died,” Paswan told the news agency.&nbsp;Denying the allegations, Dr Singh said, “If such an incident takes place with anyone, the family will make allegations of negligence.
