Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday that the minority Muslim population in the state will be almost equal to Hindus by 2041 if the current growth rate continues. Sarma made the remark during a press conference after a cabinet meeting in Dibrugarh. He added that as per the 2011 survey, the Muslim population in Assam was 34 per cent, out of which, 31 per cent were those who had migrated to the state. He further said that out of the total Muslims in the state, only three per cent were indigenous Assamese Muslims. &nbsp;“This is not my take, it is just the Census result. Today as per the 2011 Census, 34 per cent of the population is Muslim,” Sarma said, when asked whether indigenous people of Assam will become a minority in the state after a few years.&nbsp;“...then the 31 per cent are the Muslims who had migrated to Assam. The aircraft will undergo necessary checks and maintenance before resuming operations.&nbsp;An airport official told news agency PTI the IndiGo flight was cancelled due to some technical issues.&nbsp;“A technical snag indication was noticed just before take-off on IndiGo flight 6E 7966 operating from Ahmedabad to Diu on 23 July 2025. Following the standard operating procedure, the pilots informed the authorities and returned the aircraft to the bay. The complainant, a 46-year-old Bengaluru woman, said she and her childhood friend, an international instructor based in Thailand who is currently visiting India, were scammed by individuals claiming to be officials from the Colaba Police Station in Mumbai.On July 17, at around 11 am, her friend received a call from the fraudsters, who alleged that she was involved in a ‘Jet Airways scam’ and then further accused her of involvement in money laundering, trafficking, and even murder.&nbsp;Armed with her accurate Aadhaar and bank card details, the callers showed a fake arrest warrant and then threatened and coerced them into complying with humiliating and illegal demands.They were first told to transfer Rs 58,477 from an HDFC Bank account under the pretext of verification “as per RBI and CBI guidelines.” Then they were coerced into stripping on a WhatsApp video call on the false pretext of a “medical examination” to check for bullet wounds and tattoos.Holding the women under “digital and home arrest,” the fraudsters kept the women under constant video surveillance for nearly nine hours, while issuing threats.&nbsp;&nbsp;At around 8 pm, the instructor couldn’t sustain the harassment and reached out to a friend via WhatsApp call. The friend immediately advised them to disconnect all calls and refuse further money transfers.When the accused failed to re-establish contact with the women, they sent their photos and videos to them, threatening to make them public.&nbsp;The women then approached Banaswadi Police Station and filed a cybercrime complaint at the Cyber and Economic Offences (CEN) Crime Branch in Shivajinagar.They provided authorities with the phone numbers used by the fraudsters and details of a UPI transaction made to a person identified as Abhishek SP via PhonePe. Police have started investigations in the case.

Complicating matters further, the victim's family, which has the power to pardon Priya, has been firm in their stance that Priya deserves to be punished for murdering their family member. As uncertainty prevails over Nimisha's fate, her mother,&nbsp;Premakumari, has shared a teary-eyed plea.&nbsp;Premakumari had travelled from her hometown in Kerala, India, to Sanaa, Yemen, back in April 2024. The senior citizen is being supported in Yemen by Indian national Samuel Jerome, who is the Power of Attorney Holder of Nimisha's family. In her video message, Premakumari emphasises that she had travelled to Yemen after a long wait of seven years, hoping that she could return to her hometown with her daughter(after obtaining a pardon). In Yemen, Premakumari says she had met Priya on multiple occasions.&nbsp;&nbsp;However, as uncertainty prevails over Priya's safe return and the apprehensions that she could be executed, Premakumari says that she cannot leave her daughter behind in Yemen and return to Kerala. "I am not sitting here because anyone forced me to.. I am here because I need to save my daughter(from the gallows).. I have had a chance to meet her a few times", she adds.&nbsp;Referring to the situation back at home in Kerala, Kumari says that Nimisha has a school-going daughter who is waiting for her return. The ministry's spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, however, said that the concerned authorities in India had carried out the identification of victims according to established protocols and that the mortal remains were handled with "utmost professionalism".&nbsp;"We have seen the report and have been working closely with the UK side from the moment these concerns and issues were brought to our attention. In the wake of the tragic crash, the concerned authorities had carried out the identification of victims as per established protocols and technical requirements. All mortal remains were handled with utmost professionalism and with due regard for the dignity of the deceased," the ministry said in a statement, shared by Jaiswal on X.&nbsp;261 people, including passengers, crew, and several people on the ground, died after a London-bound Air India plane crashed into a hostel seconds after taking off from the Ahmedabad airport. Since the crash of the plane carrying thousands of litres of fuel triggered a massive explosion, most of the bodies were charred beyond recognition. According to police and witness reports, a vehicle pulled up beside them and five men emerged, some of them allegedly wielding metal knuckles or sharp objects, and demanded Singh move his car.&nbsp;&nbsp;<h2>Attackers wielding metal knuckles hurled racial abuses</h2>&nbsp;Without any provocation, the attackers reportedly started shouting racial abuses, saying “F*** off, Indian” to Singh before launching a violent assault. According to police and witness reports, a vehicle pulled up beside them and five men emerged, some of them allegedly wielding metal knuckles or sharp objects, and demanded Singh move his car.
