Wang Yi and NSA Doval stressed on "phased and stepwise de-escalation in the India-China border areas".

On Thursday, reports said India and Chinese troops had completed their disengagement with Chinese troops pulling back by approximately 2 kms from the LAC. The soldiers from both sides had pulled back from Patrolling Point 15 which is the Hot Springs area in eastern Ladakh.

A Chinese official said that complete disengagement is likely to be completed by Friday. The incident at Galwan last month led to both sides amassing troops at the border as Indian officials said that China has been bringing in troops along the border since May.

On Thursday, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said that Chinese and Indian troops have taken "effective measures" to disengage at the Galwan Valley. Chinese troops had earlier in the week begun to remove tents and had started moving out of areas at Galwan Valley as both sides looked to disengage.

"We hope India will work together with us to take concrete action and implement the consensus reached and jointly work for de-escalation along the border," foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said Indian economy has started seeing "green shoots" of recovery, and that it would play a leading role in global recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

He added India remains one of the most open economies in the world.

PM Modi was addressing the India Global Week 2020 -- one of the biggest international events on India's globalisation. He also invited the world industry to invest in India.

PM Modi said that in these times when the world is battling the COVID-19 pandemic, it is natural to talk about revival and there is faith that the story of global revival will have India playing a leading role.

"Indians have the spirit to achieve what is believed to be impossible. No wonder that in India, we are already seeing green shoots when it comes to economic recovery," Modi said while addressing the India Global Week 2020.

“In these times, it is natural to talk about revival. It is equally natural to link global revival and India. There is faith that the story of global revival will have India playing a leading role," he said.

"We are laying the red carpet for all global companies to come and establish their presence in India. Very few countries will offer the kind of opportunities India does today."

The prime minister said Indians have been natural reformers, and that historically, the country has managed to overcome every challenge -- be it social or economic.

“On one hand, India is fighting a strong battle against the global pandemic. With an increased focus on people's health, we are equally focussed on the health of the economy,” he said, adding, "when India talks of revival, it's revival with care, with compassion, which is sustainable both for environment and economy. Indians have the spirit to achieve what is believed to be impossible. No wonder that in India, we are already seeing green-shoots of economic recovery."

Modi also said that there are many possibilities and opportunities in various sunrise sectors in India.

"Our reforms in agriculture provide a very attractive investment opportunity to invest in storage and logistics," Modi said.

During the last six years, India has made great gains in areas such as financial inclusion, housing and infra construction, ease of doing business and bold tax reforms like the GST, he said.

"India is ready to do whatever it can to further global good and prosperity. This is an India that is reforming, performing and transforming," he said.

The prime minister also spoke of his government's coronavirus relief package comprising free ration, cooking gas and cash to poor.

"In this time of a pandemic we have provided relief to our citizens and undertaken big structural reforms," he said.

"Our relief package has been smart and targeted to provide the most poor with the most help. Thanks to technology every penny has reached the beneficiaries directly."

The relief package was named Aatmanirbhar Bharat or self-reliant India. "Aatmanirbhar Bharat is not about being self-contained or being closed to the world. It is about being self-sustaining and self-generating," he said.

And when the lockdown restrictions were eased, the government launched one of the world's largest public works programmes to provide employment to millions of workers. "This will not only re-energise the rural economy but also help in the creation of a durable infrastructure in rural areas," he said.

The pandemic has once again shown that India's pharma industry is an asset not just for India but for the entire world, he said adding it has played a leading role in reducing the cost of medicines, especially for developing countries.

According to a recent report of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), there were 1,94,556 Indian students enrolled in various academic institutions of the US in January this year.

The new visa regulations requiring international students in the US with an F-1 visa to take at least one in-person course or face the prospect of deportation is likely to "cause uncertainties and difficulties" for some students, the Indian Embassy here has said.

"These new modifications at a time when many of the US universities and colleges are yet to announce their plans for the new academic year are likely to cause uncertainties and difficulties for some Indian students wishing to pursue their studies in the US," said a spokesperson of the Indian Embassy.

Responding to media queries, the spokesperson said the Indian government has taken up the matter with concerned US officials.

At the India-US Foreign Office Consultations held on July 7, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla conveyed India's concerns on the matter to Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs David Hale.

According to a recent report of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), there were 1,94,556 Indian students enrolled in various academic institutions of the US in January this year. Of these 1,26,132 were males and 68,405 were females.

Noting that partnership in higher education is a key component of the strong people-to-people ties between India and the US, the spokesperson said in the last two decades Indian students in American universities and colleges have been the harbingers of a strong partnership between technology and innovation sectors between the two countries.

The spokesperson hoped that the US authorities would provide adequate flexibility in their visa rule, keeping in mind the extraordinary circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic for the Indian students' community.

"We continue to engage all the stakeholders in the matters, including the US administration officials, Congressional leaders, universities and colleges as well as the Indian students' community in the US as we move forward towards the 2020-21 academic year to further strengthen our bilateral partnership in higher education," the spokesperson said.

Announced by the SEVP on July 6, the new rules provide temporary exemptions for nonimmigrant students on F-1 and M-1 visas taking online classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic for the fall semester of the 2020 academic year.

"While these modifications do provide some flexibility for US universities and colleges to adopt a hybrid model -- that is a mixture of online and in-person classes -- they also restrict international students on F-1 and M-1 visas from taking courses entirely online," the spokesperson said.

An inter-ministerial team has been set up by the government to coordinate investigation into the alleged violation of various laws by three Nehru-Gandhi family linked trusts, including the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF).

The decision was taken nearly a fortnight after the BJP said that the RGF had received funds from the Chinese Embassy.

The allegation came amidst the stand-off between the Indian Army and China's PLA in Ladakh.

A Home Ministry spokesperson said a special director in the Enforcement Directorate will head the inter-ministerial team.

"The Ministry of Home Affairs has set up an inter-ministerial committee to coordinate investigations into violation of various legal provisions of PMLA, Income Tax Act, FCRA etc., by the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust and Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust. Special Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) will head the committee," a home ministry spokesperson said.

The RGF was set up in 1991 with the aim to realise "the vision of the former prime minister of a modern India, secular, and progressive; a country that enshrines the democratic principle of equality and blends progress with rich cultural traditions".

The foundation is chaired by Sonia Gandhi. The other trustees include former prime minister Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, former finance minister P Chidambaram, former deputy chairman of the erstwhile Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Suman Dubey, Ashok Ganguly and Sanjiv Goenka.

The Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust (RGCT) was established in 2002 to "address the development needs of the underprivileged of the country, especially the rural poor" and works in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

Inter-ministerial team set up to coordinate probe against Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Indira Gandhi Trust

Hitting out at Pakistan for peddling "false narratives" against it, India has asked Islamabad that it must introspect about why it is universally acknowledged as the "international epicentre" of terrorism and the "best safe haven for terrorists."

Mahaveer Singhvi, head of the Indian delegation, made the comments at a webinar "The Global Scourge of Terrorism: Assessment of High-Risk Threats and Trends, including the rise of Violent Extremism and Hate Speech in a Pandemic Environment' on Tuesday during the ongoing virtual Counter-Terrorism Week.

"While the world is coming together to battle the pandemic, it is unfortunate that Pakistan, a state which sponsors cross border terrorism, continues to use every opportunity to peddle false narratives and make baseless, malicious and egregious allegations against India and interfere in our internal affairs," he said.

"The international community should call upon Pakistan to take sustained, verifiable and irreversible actions against terror outfits operating on the territory under its control. Pakistan must introspect upon why it is universally acknowledged as the international epicentre of terrorism and the best safe haven for terrorists," Singhvi said.

Also read | Amidst Covid-19, Pakistan continues to support terror says India at United Nations

Slamming Islamabad for raising India's domestic policies and internal affairs, including the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, he said even as Pakistan provides shelter and support to terrorists, it continues to peddle false and motivated narrative on the situation in the Union Territory.

"It is seeking to portray its military, financial, logistical support to cross border terrorism against India as a freedom struggle. It is also peddling misinformation about India's domestic legislation and policies," he said.

If Pakistan wishes to be taken seriously in the fight against the "even more destructive virus of terrorism," it must look inward and live up to its commitments and abandon its "divisionary tactics," he said.

While Pakistan conveniently blames others, it "turns a blind eye" to the human rights violations in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and territories of Jammu and Kashmir illegally occupied by it, he said.

"It has also systematically and consistently discriminated against its religious and cultural minorities," Singhvi said, adding that reports of forced conversions, attacks on religious places of minorities, including Ahmedias, Christians, Hindus and Sikhs in Pakistan are well known to the world.

"India is the largest democracy in the world where all faiths receive equal treatment, as mandated by the Constitution. Members from minority communities have held high offices in India, including presidents and prime ministers. Pakistan, being a theocratic State, may find it difficult to fathom India's secular credentials.

Also read | Pakistan summons Indian diplomat over firing along LoC

"The least Pakistan could do" is to look into its own sorry state of affairs and put its house in order before pointing fingers at others and spewing venom against the democratically-elected Indian government and its leaders," he said.

He also slammed Pakistan's "ludicrous" statement claiming credit for eliminating Al Qaeda from its territory, saying it is "indeed ironic", considering its leader Osama bin Laden, "has recently been glorified as a martyr, by none other than the Prime Minister of Pakistan on the floor of their Parliament".This is a chilling reminder of the patronage that the international terrorists receive in Pakistan."

He said Prime Minister Imran Khan had publicly acknowledged the presence of up to 40,000 terrorists in Pakistan and that terrorists from there have attacked neighbouring countries.

He also cited a recent report by the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team of the UN Security Council stating that around 6,500 Pakistani terrorists belonging to Jaish-i-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba are operating in Afghanistan.

"Pakistan's role as epicentre of terrorism has been well documented by numerous international organisations" including the UN and the Financial Action Task Force.

"Unlike Pakistan, India does not make any distinction between terrorists and invariably condemns terror attacks anywhere in the world," including the recent Karachi attack, he said.

Recalling the 2008 attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul by a Pakistan-supported terrorist group that claimed several lives, he said, "it is very unfortunate that a country which perpetrated terrorist attacks in Mumbai (2008), Pathankot (2016), Uri and Pulwama is now preaching to the world community."

He said India continues to face the scourge of state-sponsored cross border terrorism.
"Terrorists have made innumerable attempts to infiltrate into our country from their safe abodes across the border to carry out attacks and have even used unmanned aerial systems to smuggle weapons across our borders," he said.

Globally, there have been "malevolent attempts" by terrorists to exploit the distress caused by lockdowns and disturb cohesiveness of societies, he said, adding that the increased presence of people online has been targeted by terrorists to spread misinformation through hate speeches, fake news and doctored videos.

Terror groups have also exhorted supporters to target security forces and health workers and proscribed terrorist outfits are collecting funds under the garb of charitable activities to finance terror.

"As the world grapples with COVID-19, it is important to augment international legal frameworks to coherently fight against terrorists, whose disruptive activities continued and, in fact, increased during the pandemic," he said.

Hitting out at Pakistan for peddling "false narratives" against it, India has asked Islamabad that it must introspect about why it is universally acknowledged as the "international epicentre" of terrorism and the "best safe haven for terrorists." Mahaveer Singhvi, head of the Indian delegation, made the comments at a webinar "The Global Scourge of Terrorism: Assessment of High-Risk Threats and Trends, including the rise of Violent Extremism and Hate Speech in a Pandemic Environment' on Tuesday during the ongoing virtual Counter-Terrorism Week. Also read | Amidst Covid-19, Pakistan continues to support terror says India at United Nations Slamming Islamabad for raising India's domestic policies and internal affairs, including the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, he said even as Pakistan provides shelter and support to terrorists, it continues to peddle false and motivated narrative on the situation in the Union Territory. Also read | Pakistan summons Indian diplomat over firing along LoC "The least Pakistan could do" is to look into its own sorry state of affairs and put its house in order before pointing fingers at others and spewing venom against the democratically-elected Indian government and its leaders," he said. He also slammed Pakistan's "ludicrous" statement claiming credit for eliminating Al Qaeda from its territory, saying it is "indeed ironic", considering its leader Osama bin Laden, "has recently been glorified as a martyr, by none other than the Prime Minister of Pakistan on the floor of their Parliament".This is a chilling reminder of the patronage that the international terrorists receive in Pakistan." He said Prime Minister Imran Khan had publicly acknowledged the presence of up to 40,000 terrorists in Pakistan and that terrorists from there have attacked neighbouring countries. Recalling the 2008 attack on the Indian embassy in Kabul by a Pakistan-supported terrorist group that claimed several lives, he said, "it is very unfortunate that a country which perpetrated terrorist attacks in Mumbai (2008), Pathankot (2016), Uri and Pulwama is now preaching to the world community." He said India continues to face the scourge of state-sponsored cross border terrorism. "Terrorists have made innumerable attempts to infiltrate into our country from their safe abodes across the border to carry out attacks and have even used unmanned aerial systems to smuggle weapons across our borders," he said. Researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have warned that India might record 2.87 lakh coronavirus cases per day by the end of winter 2021 -- in case no proper COVID-19 vaccine or drug is developed.

The study was conducted by researchers Hazhir Rahmandad, TY Lim and John Sterman of MIT's Sloan School of Management.

The world may witness 249 million (24.9 crore) cases and 1.8 million (18 lakh) deaths by spring 2021 if there are no effective treatments or vaccination, they said.

According to the study, the top 10 countries by projected daily infection rates at the end of winter 2021 are India, US, South Africa, Iran, Indonesia, Nigeria, Turkey, France and Germany.

India will be the worst affected country due to coronavirus followed by the US (95,000 cases per day), South Africa (21,000 cases per day) Iran (17,000 cases per day), and Indonesia (13,000 cases per day) at the end of winter 2021.

For the findings, the MIT research team use a multi-country modified SEIR (Susceptible, Exposed, Infectious, Recovered) model, a standard mathematical model for infectious diseases used by epidemiologists, to simultaneously estimate the transmission of Covid-19 in 84 countries (4.75 billion people).

The model tracked community transmission, excluding the global travel network and instead separately estimating the date of introduction of patient zero for each country.

Within each country, the core of the model tracks the population through susceptible, pre-symptomatic, infected pre-testing, infected post-testing, and recovered states.

As of Wednesday morning, the overall number of global COVID-19 cases has increased to more than 11.7 million, while the deaths have soared to over 543,000, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Indian police have arrested 12 LG Polymers officials, including its South Korean chief executive, an officer said on Wednesday, two months after a gas leak at the company's south India chemical plant killed 12.

The arrests were made under a case of culpable homicide filed against the company's South Korean parent, LG Chem Ltd, when the leak occurred in May, police commissioner Rajiv Kumar Meena said.

"A total of twelve members including the CEO and two directors were arrested on Tuesday evening," Meena, the top officer in the port city of Visakhapatnam where the plant is located, said.

Among those arrested were two directors, one of whom was a South Korean, Meena said.
Toxic styrene gas leaked from the chemical plant in the early hours of May 7, choking many people who were sleeping.

This week, a government-appointed committee recommended that the plant be shifted away from human habitation and called for action against the top employees. It said LG Chem had been negligent and warning systems were not working.

The company did not immediately respond to emails seeking comment.

Meena said three government officials had also been suspended for negligence.

A 32-year-old man, who recently returned from India and tested positive for the deadly coronavirus, will be charged with missing from a managed isolation facility in Auckland to go to a supermarket, according to media reports.

The man, New Zealand's latest new case of COVID-19, escaped through a fenced area from an isolation facility at about 6:50 pm local time on Tuesday, the New Zealand Herald reported.

He has been sent to a quarantine facility after he was confirmed to have the coronavirus. However, the man was asymptomatic and did not appear to have come into close or casual contact with anyone, the report said.

The man, whose identity was not immediately known, came from Delhi on July 3, it added.

Health Minister Chris Hipkins has slammed the man's actions as "selfish" and says he will face charges, the report said.

But he wouldn't describe the episode as a failure of the government's processes, and even though those processes will now be reviewed, he said if anyone should apologise, it was the man who broke the law.

Mr Hipkins said the man appeared to have made a spur of the moment decision and dashed through a gap where fencing was being replaced.

A security guard was observing the area but confused the man with contractors working on the fencing. The alarm was raised within minutes but security were unable to find the man.

Mr Hipkins said the man may have spent 20 minutes in the supermarket on Victoria St West, and he returned of his own volition 70 minutes after leaving, the report added.

He will be charged and now face up to a six-month jail sentence or a $4000 fine, the report added.

After the man's positive test result came today, the supermarket staff are now self-isolating and will also be tested for the virus, the Stuff reported.

"CCTV footage from within the supermarket has confirmed there was no close contact between the man and any staff or customers during his time there," head of managed isolation and quarantine Air Commodore Darryn Webb said.

There are now 23 active COVID-19 cases in New Zealand, all in managed isolation or quarantine, and 1187 confirmed cases.

Kulbhushan Jadhav has come to symbolise Pakistan's sheer disregard for truth and justice.

Jadhav has been part of a diplomatic tug of war between India and Pakistan for the past four years with a high decibel campaign been waged over his arrest but none of it has been able to spell freedom for him.

Kulbhushan Jadhav who is a former Indian naval officer was kidnapped in Iran in 2016 where he had business interests after retirement. He was arrested on suspicion of espionage and sabotage activities against Pakistan. Islamabad claimed that he was a spy and he was their biggest catch. Jadhav was sentenced to death but India fought for his freedom relentlessly. It dragged Pakistan to the International Court of Justice(ICJ) several times.

ICJ's ruling has almost always been in India's favour. In 2019, his execution was stayed by the ICJ but Pakistan is known to not abide by the laws. It still refuses to let go of Kulbhushan Jadhav and he remains in captivity.

Jadhav's whereabouts are unknown with his well being a matter of debate. Now, Pakistan has taken its foul-play one step further. Islamabad is saying that Jadhav has refused to file a review petition of his death sentence and that he wants to go ahead with his pending mercy plea. The statement was peddled at a presser by Pakistan's additional attorney general Zahid Hafiz Chaudhry.

In simple terms what Pakistan is saying is that Kulbhushan Jadhav has admitted to being a spy. However, nothing in Pakistan's track-record will convince the world that it's speaking the truth, if anything it has only strengthened India's resolve for justice.

The ministry of external affairs has responded in sharp words.

"The media statement by Pakistan seeks to mask its continuing reticence to implement the ICJ judgment in letter and spirit, Pakistan's claim is a continuation of the farce that has been in play for the last four years," it said adding, "he has clearly been coerced to refuse to file a review in his case."

"The government will do its utmost to protect Jadhav and ensure his safe return to India," the MEA said.

The message from India is loud and clear - it won't allow Pakistan to get away by masking facts as the fight for justice for Kulbhushan Jadhav continues.

Positive cases stand at 7,42,417 including 2,64,944 active cases, 4,56,831 cured/discharged/migrated and 20,642 deaths, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The rate of both new virus infections and deaths are rising at the fastest pace in three months, as officials lift a vast lockdown of India's 1.3 billion people. India on Monday overtook Russia as the third most affected country globally, behind the United States and Brazil. But its death rate per 10,000 people is still a low 0.15, compared with 3.97 in the United States and 6.65 in the United Kingdom, according to a Reuters tally. Health officials fear the number of deaths, which usually lag behind the detection of new infections, could rise significantly in coming weeks. India's death toll is currently the world's seventh highest, behind the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Italy, France and Spain. Over the first week of July, India reported an average of 450 deaths each day, compared with 250 in the first week of June, and 101 in the first week of May. Officials on Monday withdrew a planned reopening of the Taj Mahal, citing the risk of new coronavirus infections spreading in the northern city of Agra from visitors flocking to see the 17th century monument to love. The reopening of the Indian economy has been sporadic. While domestic travel has been opened up, international flights remain suspended and containment zones, areas identified as most affected by the virus, remain under strict lockdown.

The country`s top drug regulator has directed all drug controller in the States and Union Territories to keep strict vigil to prevent the black marketing and sale of the anti-drug Remdesivir injection above the minimum retail price (MRP). The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) had granted approval to Remdesivir drug for restricted emergency use for the treatment of COVID-19 patients last month. The Union Health Ministry in its Clinical Management Protocols for COVID-19 has allowed the use of Remdesivir for restricted emergency use purposes in patients in the moderate stages of the COVID19 disease under "investigational therapies". Dr V G Somani wrote a letter to all State drug controllers stating: "Initially, Remdesivir formulation of the innovator was approved on June 1 for import and marketing the drug in the country. Lockdown will be imposed in containment zones in West Bengal for seven days from 5 pm on Thursday to check the surge in novel coronavirus cases, chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday.

The situation will be reviewed after the seven days and the next course of action will be decided, she said at the state secretariat.

"This lockdown in containment zones in West Bengal will continue for seven days from 5 pm Thursday. Will review the situation after seven days and then decide next course of action on lockdown," the chief minister said.

If it is seen that the number of cases are coming down during this period, then some relaxations will be announced, Banerjee added. The West Bengal chief minister urged people to maintain physical distance and wear face masks.

Banerjee directed the police to be strict with those violating norms and send back people home, if they are found without masks. The West Bengal government had on Tuesday decided to expand the areas under lockdown and impose tougher restrictions from July 9 to stem the relentless spike in COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court Wednesday asked the Delhi government to set a committee of its officers to look into the problems faced by critical patients, who are unable to receive treatment at Fortis Institute of Renal Science and Transplantation at Vasant Kunj since the institute has been converted into a COVID-19 facility.

Justice Navin Chawla, who conducted the hearing through video conferencing, said the Delhi government's panel will inspect the private hospital and also consult with its officials and submit its report before the court within 10 days.

The high court listed for July 21, hearing on a plea seeking quashing of a June 9 notice of the Delhi government's health department to the extent that it declared and allocated 100 per cent of the facilities and the beds at the hospital for COVID-19 treatment.

The petition filed by Rameshwar Dutt Kaushik and three other patients submitted that they are suffering from chronic renal failure and are in need for regular dialysis support at least thrice in a week, for four hours each, and also various tests on a regular basis which are critical to their lives.
'
Advocates Arjun Kakkar and Karan Kakkar, representing the patients, claimed that critically ill patients who were availing treatment at Fortis Hospital and who require life-saving support and health services on a regular/day-to-day basis, such as cancer patients for radiotherapy, dialysis, renal failure and Thalassemia have been deeply aggrieved by the government order as this hospital was a specialist treatment facility.

"Floriculture activities happen round the year, so we work throughout. In fact, we prepare flowers for the display and luckily, we got a chance to open them for the public. Gardners and laborers who have worked hard are happy," Asif Ahmad, Assistant Floriculture officer told WION.

Located on the foothills of the Himalayan mountain range, the Nishat garden built by Mughals near the Dal lake also witnessed buzz after a long silence. People have expressed happiness over the reopening of these places but have asked visitors to follow guidelines to stop the spread of coronavirus.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday said it has confiscated assets worth Rs 329.66 crore of diamond merchant Nirav Modi under the fugitive economic offenders' law.

This is the first confiscation of assets order issued under the law that was brought by the Modi government in 2018 with an aim to deter economic offenders from evading the process of law by remaining outside the jurisdiction of Indian courts.

The businessman, his uncle Mehul Choksi and others are being probed by the ED on money laundering charges in connection with an over $2 billion alleged bank fraud at a PNB branch in Mumbai.

"The confiscated properties are in the form of four flats at the iconic building Samudra Mahal in Worli Mumbai, a sea-side farm house and land in Alibaug, a wind mill in Jaisalmer, a flat in London, residential flats in UAE and shares and bank deposits," the central probe agency said in a statement.

A special court in Mumbai had on June 8 authorised the ED to confiscate the assets. Nirav Modi, 49, was declared a fugitive economic offender by the same court on December 5 last year.

"The ED has attached the properties worth Rs 329.66 crore under the FEO Act, 2018 which now stands confiscated to the central government," it said.

As per the FEO Act, the confiscated property can be put up for auction after 90 days of issuance of the order and the amount collected is deposited with the exchequer or government account.

The ED also sticks a notice of confiscation on such properties.

The agency till now has attached assets worth Rs 2,348 crore (assessed value) of Nirav Modi under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in this case.

The agency said the special court had "directed it to attach the properties (other than assets mortgaged or hypothecated and secured to PNB led consortium) belonging to Nirav Modi and his companies and ordered that after attachment the said properties shall stand confiscated to central government under Section 12(2) and (8) of the FEO Act".

The court had also directed the consortium of banks to approach it for claiming the mortgaged or hypothecated and secured properties which were attached by the ED under PMLA.

"On examination of properties attached, it was found that assets worth Rs 1,000 crore are prima facie covered under mortgage."

"Further, the Bombay High Court had directed that sale proceeds of paintings of about Rs 45 crore to be kept as fix deposits till further orders," the agency said.

Process for confiscation of remaining attached properties under FEO Act is underway, it said.

The agency had filed an application before the Mumbai court on July 10, 2018 to declare Nirav Modi a fugitive economic offender based on its PMLA investigation against him.

Nirav Modi is currently lodged in a UK jail after being arrested in London in March, 2019 and is currently fighting extradition to India.

On Monday China unleashed an arsenal of hyperbole, disinformation and propaganda to defend its border incursions in Ladakh.

However, in its attempt to spin the story in its favour China ended up revealing the truth about the standoff in Ladakh on how it tried to cross into Indian territory and swallow Indian land.

The story was beamed on Monday night on Chinese state television. The clip was from CCTV-4. It is one of the six channels owned by China Central Television(CCTV), the state broadcaster of China which is free to air.

It is one of the channels that can broadcast outside the People's Republic of China. The report was in Mandarin.

It was China's official version or unadulterated propaganda of the standoff in Ladakh. The text in Mandarin has been translated and it said that China and India held the third round of military-level talks. China revealed the truth of the Sino-India border conflict. The PLA tried to enter Indian territory. The news report shows Indian soldiers and the footage was captured by the Chinese. It is an undated clip, however, some reports claim that it was shot in May way before the deadly clashes that killed 20 Indian soldiers and reportedly a much higher and unspecified number of Chinese soldiers.

Now, China is trying to use the footage as propaganda against India. CCTV claimed that India had intruded into Chinese territory and the PLA defended the sovereignty of China.

It is how China is trying to spin the story but a look at the pictures carefully reveals it actually helps India. It proves how India was conducting legitimate construction activity on its side of the border and how the Chinese tried to stop it.

The video is believed to be shot around patrol point 14. The site of the bloody clashes on June 15. At the site, Chinese cameras show a newly constructed Indian helicopter pad.

Two soldiers can be seen building what looks like a small bridge. There are some camps too. All this activity was on the Indian side.

Reports say that it was this construction activity that the PLA tried to block. India has been giving its border infrastructure a boost as it gives a tactical advantage to the Indian forces and boosts India's defences against China's military adventurism.

However, China does not like it but despite the standoff, the work has not stopped. Earlier today, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting with the border roads organisation chief. He was given a presentation on the work being done.

Highlighting how Pakistan continues to support terror amidst COVID pandemic, India has said, Pakistan must introspect upon why it is universally acknowledged as the "international epicentre of terrorism and the best safe haven for terrorists."

Speaking at the Virtual Counter-Terrorism Week, Mahaveer Singhvi Head of Indian Delegation said, “While the world is coming together to battle the pandemic, it is unfortunate that Pakistan, a state which sponsors cross border terrorism, continues to use every opportunity to peddle false narratives and make baseless, malicious and egregious allegations against India and interfere in our internal affairs."

The statement made during," “The global scourge of terrorism: Assessment of high-risk threats and trends including the rise of violent extremism and hate speech in a pandemic environment”, India called on the international community to ask Pakistan "to take sustained, verifiable and irreversible actions against terror outfits operating on the territory under its control.”

India listed out the Pakistani role in the terror attack on the Indian mission in Kabul, Mumbai terror attack of 2008, Pathankot attack of 2016, Uri and Pulwama.

Bringing to notice the recent comments by Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan in the national parliament terming 9/11 mastermind Osama Bin Laden a martyr, Singhvi said, “This is a chilling reminder of the patronage, and that the international terrorists receive in Pakistan."

In the past, Pakistan’s Prime Minister has publicly acknowledged the presence of up to 40,000 terrorists in his country and a recent report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team of the UN Security Council reported that around 6,500 Pakistani terrorists belonging to LeT and JeM are operating in Afghanistan.

On Pakistan raking Kashmir, India said the country," continues to peddle false and motivated narrative on the situation in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir" while it seeks "to portray its military, financial, logistical support to cross border terrorism against India as a freedom struggle. It is also peddling misinformation about India’s domestic legislation and policies."

India also pointed out the human rights violations in Balochistan, Kyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan occupied Kashmir and the "systematically and consistently discriminated against its religious and cultural minorities".

Singhvi said, “Members from minority communities have held high offices in India, including Presidents and Prime Ministers. Pakistan, being a theocratic State, may find it difficult to fathom India’s secular credentials."

Adding," The least, Pakistan could do, therefore, is to look into its own sorry state of affairs and put its house in order before pointing finger at others and spewing venom against the democratically elected Indian government and its leaders."

On Pakistan raking Kashmir, India said the country," continues to peddle false and motivated narrative on the situation in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir" while it seeks "to portray its military, financial, logistical support to cross border terrorism against India as a freedom struggle. It is also peddling misinformation about India’s domestic legislation and policies." India also pointed out the human rights violations in Balochistan, Kyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan occupied Kashmir and the "systematically and consistently discriminated against its religious and cultural minorities". Singhvi said, “Members from minority communities have held high offices in India, including Presidents and Prime Ministers. Pakistan, being a theocratic State, may find it difficult to fathom India’s secular credentials." Adding," The least, Pakistan could do, therefore, is to look into its own sorry state of affairs and put its house in order before pointing finger at others and spewing venom against the democratically elected Indian government and its leaders."
