Union Minister and singer Babul Supriyo got booked on Wednesday in Asansol for allegedly violating section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

From Wednesday Section 144 has been imposed in Asansol -- Babul Supriyo's constituency -- after the continuous tense situation following the Ram Navami procession in the state.

According to reports, Babul Supriyo was stopped by police while he was driving through Kalyanpur to reach Asansol. Following an argument between him and police, Supriyo assaulted an IPS officer.

Meanwhile, a counter FIR has also been filed by the minister against the IPS officer for assaulting him despite the warning of to not 'touch him physically'.

Supriyo was going there to take the stock of the situation which arrived from the violence in the state.

Reports say that he was barred from entering the area by police citing security reasons.

Internet services were also barred in Asansol and Ranigunj by the state government.

According to news reports, the internet services restrictions will remain in effect till March 30.

One villager was killed in a clash between locals and police during a Ram Navami procession in Beldi village in Purulia, West Bengal. 

Four people were also injured in the clash. 

The ruling party Trinamool Congress and opposition Bharatiya Janata party took out rallies across the state on Sunday to celebrate Ram Navami festival fuelling communal tension.
