Indian foreign minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Monday (Apr 1) responded to "unacceptable red line" comments made by US ambassador Eric Garcetti on the alleged murder plot of Khalistani extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
Jaishankar said that India's national security interests are involved in the investigation of the matter on the basis of "certain information" provided by the country.
While addressing the media on Monday, Jaishankar said, "The US ambassador as an ambassador will say what he thinks is the position of his government."
"The position of my government is that in this particular case, there has been certain information provided to us which we are investigating," he added.
"It is something we are investigating as we believe our own national security interests are involved in that investigation," he said.

Jaishankar said that India would be "glad" to speak about it when there is something to say on the investigation. "At this point, beyond the fact that there is an investigation going on, we have nothing more to say," he said.
US has several times raised the issue of the murder plot of Pannun calling it a serious issue and said that they have been working with the Indian government to hold accountable those responsible.

What did Garcetti say?
In an interview with India-based news agency ANI on Sunday, Garcetti spoke on Pannun, saying that a "red line" should not be crossed and "no country" or "no government employee" should be involved in the killing of a foreign national.
"For any of us, just abstractly, there has to be a red line. No government or government employee can be involved in the murder attempt of one of your own citizens. This is just an unacceptable red line," he added.
He also praised India for setting up a commission to look into the murder plot and added that the US would have taken similar steps if there was an "American plot" or an attempt to kill a citizen of any other country.
"... (The) same thing would happen if there was an American plot against some sort of or an American government person who was trying to assassinate somebody in another country. That would be an unacceptable red line for any nation," he added.
