Twenty-five people in Karnataka's Tumkur were allegedly attacked with acid while they were holding a procession to celebrate their candidate’s victory in civic polls, on Monday afternoon.

The attack took place when Congress, which has won three seats in Tumukur Municipal Corporation, was carrying out a victory procession, the TV reports said.

Victims have been rushed to the hospital while eight are said to have been seriously burned, according to local reports.

The mass assault happened during a celebration following the victory of Congress candidate Inayatullah Khan.

Police have launched an investigation into the horrific incident.

The suspects reportedly fled the scene while no motive for the attack has been confirmed.

Congress has secured 966 seats, while BJP won 910 seats in the elections held on Saturday. Results for 2,628 seats out of 2,709 have been declared so far.
