Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupendra Singh has blamed "porn" for the rising number of child rapes and molestation cases against women.

He also said that his government was thinking of banning pornography in Madhya Pradesh and that they would seek Centre's assistance for the same.

He said, " We think the reason for rising number of child rapes and molestation cases is porn. We are contemplating banning porn in Madhya Pradesh, will approach Centre in the Centre."

His comments have come at a time when regular reports of rape and molestation were reported in the country.

The country recently engulfed in a massive outrage over the brutal rape and murder of an eight-year-old in Kathua Jammu and Kashmir.

To counter the rising number of crimes against children and women in the country the government has also introduced strict amendments in the POCSO Act allowing courts to award death penalty to those convicted of raping children up to 12 years of age.
