Taxi driver, cops in India's Mumbai save woman from falling into Arabian Sea | VIDEO

An act of remarkable alertness and agility was witnessed in the Indian city of Mumbai after a taxi driver and four traffic police personnel saved a 56-year-old woman, who wason the verge offalling into the Arabian Sea from the Atal Setu. The woman was attempting to jump off the bridge.

A visual of the dramatic rescue on the sea bridge, which connects south Mumbai to Navi Mumbai, has been widely shared on social media.

Citing officials, a report by the news agency PTI on Saturday (Aug 17) said that the woman, a resident of Mulund,reached Atal Setu in a taxi and stopped the vehicle on the Nhava Sheva side.

Officials said the womanwalked to the side crash barrier and sat on the railing.

The rescue

The video showed the taxi driver standing closeto the woman. Just then,a police patrolling vehicle pulls over. Seeing the cops, the woman seems to lose her sitting position and falls.

The taxi driver grabs the falling woman by her hair in a split second. The traffic police personnelsprinted and climbed onto the railing and managed to save the woman.

In a post on X, the Mumbai Police Commissioner said, "Responding promptly to an attempt to die by suicide at MTHL Atal Setu, the on-duty officials, PN Lalit Shirsat, PN Kiran Mahtre, PC Yash Sonawane & PC Mayur Patil of Navi Mumbai Police jumped over the railing & rescued the individual saving her life."

"I request citizens to value the gift of life and not act on impulse in such circumstances. Never forget, your loved ones deserve better," the commissioner added.
