A day after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley tabled this year's Economic Survey, Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram reacted saying that the survey lacks "proof" to back its claim of growth.
According to the survey, the fiscal year is likely to end with a growth rate between 6 and 6.5 per cent.
In a statement, Chidambaram called the statement a "refreshingly candid document" that has revealed the "internal contradictions within the government".
He noted that the survey "seems to prepare the grounds for failure" by hoping that the state of the global economy stays the same and that oil prices do not persist at the current level.
Chidambaram lashed out at the Modi government for failing to address the challenges in education, employment, and agriculture sectors.
He called the survey depressing, the one that shows that the government hopes the private sector to rescue the economy.
