Karnataka sex scandal: Blue Corner notice issued against accused MP Prajwal Revanna

Karnataka Home Minister, G Parameshwara on Sunday (May 5), said thata Blue Corner notice has been issuedagainst Prajwal Revanna, a Member of Parliament (MP) accused of committing grave sexual offence.

A blue notice permits Interpol to gather details regarding an individual's identity, whereabouts, or actions linked to a criminal inquiry.

Parameshwara also said that the state government is requesting Interpol's help inrepatriatingPrajwal Revanna, who is accused of serious sexual harassment.

Revanna hails from the Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) party, an ally of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Revanna is currently residing in Germany, who went there on a diplomatic passport.

The Chief Minister’s office in the southern Indian state of Karnataka revealed Saturday (May 4) that CBI might take up the case, following an emergency meeting with senior police officers.

“We will proceed for the arrest with appropriate measures. There is a possibility of CBI issuing a Blue Corner Notice, which will speed up the investigation,” stated a release from CM Siddaramaiah’s office.

Kharge assures of strict action

Meanwhile, Congress party President Mallikarjun Kharge said Sunday (May 5) thatPrajwal Revanna will face strict action as per the law.

“SIT has already taken action. As per the law, arrests will take place, and bail too. Justice for victims is important, and those who commit such acts should be taught a lesson. There are strict laws,” Kharge told the media.

Notably, Congress is currently the ruling party in Karnataka, where the entire case has emerged.

HD Revanna detained

Meanwhile, HD Revanna, the father of MP and accused Prajwal Revanna, was also detained by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Saturday in the alleged sexual assault case after a court denied him any relief.

HD Revanna has been booked on charges of kidnapping in the sexual assault case under which his son is also booked.

Earlier, a case was registered against HD Revanna in this matter at KR Nagar police station in Bengaluru.

The details of the case

Both JD(S) leaders have been booked on the basis of a complaint filed by the son of the woman who was allegedly "abducted and sexually abused".

The FIR alleged that a woman who worked as a housemaid at HD Revanna's home for six years was sexually abused by Revanna's son Prajwal, who is also the Lok Sabha candidate for BJP-JD(S) from the Hassan constituency. The woman was allegedly abducted later.

The case was registered against Revanna and former minister and his confidant Sathish Babanna in Mysuru, who already has been arrested in the case.

The woman was allegedly kidnappedso as toprevent her from testifying against Prajwal, reported news agency PTI citing police sources.
