J&K: Mehbooba, other leaders to be moved out of sub-jails due to cold wave in Srinagar

The government has decided to move former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti out of Chashmeshahi guest house, a designated sub-jail, to a different location, due to harsh winter conditions, sources said on Saturday.

Apart from Mehbooba, the government has also decided to relocate the important leaders who have been detained following the abrogation of Article 370.

According to a report, Mehbooba has been shifted to a government-owned house at MA Road, Srinagar.

The PDP president was detained from her residence and was shifted to a guest house, located in the foothills of the Zabarwan mountain range in Srinagar. But, due to the early snowfall, the cold conditions have created problems for the former chief minister, her daughter wrote a letter to deputy commissioner of Srinagar requesting to shift her to another location better equipped with heating.

"The accommodation she is currently lodged in is not equipped for Kashmir's harsh winter...... I would like to request you to shift her to another location more suitable." wrote Iltija Mufti, the daughter of Mehbooba.

Meanwhile, Omar Abdullah, also the former chief minister of the erstwhile state, has not complained about the cold or other conditions at the Hari Niwas, a government-owned guest house, turned into a sub-jail, sources said.

Keeping in view the weather condition, all the important mainstream leaders who are under detention since August 5, will be relocated to MLAs hostel at MA Road in Srinagar.

They have been detained at SKICC near Dal lake.

The government has detained several mainstream leaders to avoid mass mobilisation by these leaders to protest against the abrogation of Article 370 and dividing the Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories.
