Hyderabad: Man attacks daughter, her husband in broad daylight for inter-caste marriage

In second such incident in the last few days, a man attacked his daughter and son-in-law with a knife on Erragadda main road in Hyderabad on Wednesday afternoon.

The hideous incident, days after the murder of a Dalit youth Pranay in Miryalaguda, sent shockwaves through the city. Pranay was hacked to death by a contract killer for marrying an upper caste girl.

Manohar Chary, a goldsmith, attacked his daughter Madhavi and her husband with a knife on Wednesday. Madhavi is in a critical condition while her husband B. Sandeep (21) is safe but severely injured, reports said.

The woman is undergoing treatment at the city's Yashoda Hospital while Sandeep at a private hospital in Sanathnagar, the report added.

Sandeep, a Dalit, married Madhavi belonging to a backward class community last week at a temple in Alwal, Hyderabad.

Sandeep's mother accepted the marriage but Madhavi's family disapproved of it.

The incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed at a car showroom on Erragadda main road. The spine-chilling footage shows the father getting off the bike before drawing a sickle. He first attacked Sandeep and when Madhavi came to her husband's defence, he hacks her thrice. The injured woman started bleeding profusely and collapsed on the spot.

As the incident unfolded, several bystanders and motorists were seen simply passing by. One man tried to kick down the attacker but failed.
