Flying officer Bhawana Kanth is now the second woman pilot of the Indian Air Force to fly solo in a fighter aircraft.

Kanth flew solo in a MiG 21 Bison aircraft from Ambala Air Force Station at around 2 pm yesterday. The sortie was flown for about 30 minutes.

Flying officer Avani Chaturvedi was the first woman IAF pilot to go solo.

Kanth hails from Darbhanga, Bihar and was born and brought up in Begusarai.

Bhawana, Avani and Mohana Singh were commissioned as flying officers into the fighter stream after basic training in June 2016 on "an experimental basis" for five years initially.
