There was tensionin the Chenari town of Masaurhi, Bihar, after voting for the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 concluded. On Saturday, Ram Kripal Yadav, the BJP candidate running for the Pataliputra Lok Sabha seat, was attacked.

Yadav was fortunately unharmed despite gunfire being directed towards his car during the incident. But , according to the sources, one of his supporters suffered serious injuries during the altercation.

When the local authorities heard of the incident, they responded to the sceneimmediately. Ram Kripal Yadav, who is present MP seeking re-election, expressed shockat the attack and said that he encountered threats similar to this before during the campaign.

The incident comes after a previous incidence of violence in Saran, in which one person was killed by gunshot following the vote.

The attack on Yadav was sharply denounced by BJP OBC Morcha National General Secretary Dr. Nikhil Anand, who called it a planned plot. He condemned the incident as an assault on the democratic process, underlining that political disagreements should never lead to violence.

Anand stressed that the perpetrators of the attack ought to be held accountable and that an in-depth investigation into the attack is important.

Patliputra went to vote on Saturday. Union minister and sitting MP Ram Kripal Yadav ran against RJD Rajya Sabha member and Lalu Prasad’s daughter Misa Bharti. The constituency registered a 56.91% voter turnout, up 1% from the 2019 elections.
