
The ABC network has named Matt James, its first black lead for the network’s long-running dating competition show 'The Bachelor'.
As the casting was announced on Friday, as by opting Matt as the lead for the upcoming season 25 of 'The Bachelor', the network hopes to bring in more diversity into its shows. The show happens to be one of the most-watched and highest rating shows of the network.
Matt James is a real estate broker. While talking to the news agency, Matt said, '' I will surely try his best to show the world the diversity in love stories and sure that the viewer would love to see it''. He is one of the favourite contestants in season 16 of the long-running show.
Tyler Cameron who is also a good friend of Matt congratulated him on his social media. “This is all a testament of who you are as a person,” said Cameron, who played football with James at Wake Forest. “Now the world gets to see the person you are and the heart you have. You can change the world. Proud of you and so excited for you.”
Rachel Lindsay was the only African American to be cast as a lead in the franchise’s 18-year history when she was named 'The Bachelorette'in 2017.
In 2012, A lawsuit was filed claiming the show was a blocking contestant and for racial discrimination, and its lack of diversity.
