Rani Mukerji says she tried for a second baby for 7 years, calls it 'traumatic'

Actress Rani Mukerji has often kept her personal life away from the spotlight. In 2023, she opened up about suffering a miscarriage in 2020, and now Mukerji is talking about the traumatic experience and the struggle that she had to go through whiletrying for her second child.

Speaking to Galatta India, Rani shared that she and her husband Aditya Chopra, tried for a second baby for seven years.

“Of course, it’s difficult. I tried for a second baby for almost seven years. My daughter is eight years old now, and when she was one or one-and-a-half, I tried for my second, and I kept trying, and I finally got pregnant and then I lost the baby. Obviously, it was a very, very testing time for me. And also, I’m not very young, though I look young,'' Rani said.

After describing her heart-wrenching experience, the actor said that her age is not preferable for another (second) baby.

"It's not an age where I can have another baby. And it is traumatic for me that I can't give a sibling to my daughter. That really pains me. But then I think that we really have to be always grateful for what we have and what we don't,'' she said.

Despite what happened, Rani says that she's really happy with her daughter Adira, as she calls her 'miracle baby'.

She added, ''For me, Adira is my miracle child. And I'm really happy that I have her because I look at parents who are struggling to have even that one baby. So I feel I have to be grateful for what I have. It's a saying, but to actually work on it and believe that you've to be grateful for what you have, it takes a lot of courage. To just be content with what you have. So I'm working on it. I'm telling myself that yes, Adira is enough."

Rani gave birth to her and Aditya Chopra's first child, daughter Adira on December 9, 2015. However, the couple have refrained from sharing her face on social media.

In 2023, Rani shared that she was pregnant with her second childbut suffered a miscarriage when she was five months pregnant.

Talking at the event, she said, as quoted by Business Today, "Maybe this is the first time I am making this revelation because in today’s world every aspect of your life is discussed publicly, and becomes an agenda for talking about your film to get more eyeballs. Obviously, I didn’t speak about this when I was promoting the film because it would have come across as me trying to speak about a personal experience that would propel the film."
