Softwood lumber plays a pivotal role in houses built in the US, which is imported from Canada. But Trump said been categoric about the fact that the country has more lumber than they have ever used. The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has been concerned about these tariffs as it could increase the cost of building houses. News outlet BBC, quoted NAHB, "Consumers end up paying for the tariffs in the form of higher home prices."
<h2>Beer, wine, whiskey, and tequila</h2>
Corona and Modelo are some of the popular beers that could be on shelves but with elevated price tags. These are imported from Mexico. The tariff on aluminium could inversely hike the prices of canned beverages. The Beer Institutes mentions that about 64.1% of beverages are poured out of cans in the country.
While the discussion among the representatives of the spirit industry is that some alcohol need to be produced in the respective country, like Tennessee whiskey, tequila, and Canadian whisky, bourbon. This may add to trouble with supplies and inturn affect the cost and pricing.
With that alcohol from Europe will see a 200% tariff. French champagne, German beer and Spanish wine lovers may feel the pinch, though this needs more clarity.
<h2>Cars</h2>
In 2024, US saw an import of about eight million cars, which accounted for about $240 billion in trade. The tariffs could add thousands of dollars to the cost of a new car purchase. Prices may go up even for cars made in the US. Given the longstanding free trade agreement between US, Mexico and Canada, many American companies have their operations in these countries.
The new tariffs have been relaxed on car spare parts from these countries as the customs and border patrol have systems in place to assess the duties levied. As reported in BBC, Anderson Economic Group says only parts from these countries could elevate the pricing by an estimated $4,000-$10,000, depending on the vehicle.
<h2>Fuel</h2>
Canada is US' largest foreign supplier of crude oil, according to official figures, 61% of oil imported into the country between January and November 2024 came from Canada.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration has introduced a 25% tariff on most goods imported from Canada, energy resources from the country face a&nbsp;lower rate of 10%.

Canada rules the global market when it comes to maple syrup, the country accounts for 75% of the global production. The Quebec province produces about 90% of the king ingredient on pancakes. Commuters on a Sydney Metro were in for a scary ride when one of the doors remained wide open even as the train continued to move at full speed. A video of the incident shows passengers standing away from the door as the train barrels through a tunnel. The driverless train left the Chatswood station for the Crows Nest at 8 am, but one of the doors did not close, Nine News reported.
The train quickly gathered speed and was travelling at 100 kilometres an hour. People can be seen standing away from the open doo,r which was also manned by two metro workers to prevent any untoward incident.&nbsp;
One of them called other officials using a two-way radio to update them on the incident, and the train stopped two minutes later. A sign above the door reads, "This door is out of service."

An investigation has been opened into the matter, although Metro Train Sydney insists that their trains are "safe" to ride. Daniel Williams, the head of Metro Train Sydney said the problem happened because of a fault and they are looking into it.&nbsp;
"At approximately 8.01 am, a door fault was identified on a train travelling between Chatswood and Crows Nest Station," Williams said.
"There was Customer Journey Coordinator (CJC) and Customer Operations Lead (COL) on board the service. They were contacted by our Operational Control Centre. They tried to remotely fix the issue."
<h2>It could have ended in "absolute catastrophe"</h2>
But the door remained jammed and could not be closed remotely. Later, the two Metro personnel standing at the door closed it manually with a special key. The train was put out of service. "The OCC instructed the frontline staff to manually close the door," Williams said.

Meanwhile, the Tram and Bus Union is not happy and is demanding that the metro trains be stopped to carry out safety checks. It is calling it the "worst rail safety incidents in a decade". The big question is, why was the train allowed to leave Chatswood station with a faulty door that would not close?
According to Sydney Metro, trains reach speeds of up to 100 km/h in the tunnel and touch 110 km/h in other areas.
Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RBTU) NSW secretary Toby Warnes said the incident "could have ended in disaster" and is "a sign of an incredibly immature safety culture."
"This could have ended in absolute catastrophe this morning, and we're lucky it didn't," he added.

As per the ICC website, the Israeli PM is "allegedly responsible for the war crimes of starvation as a method of warfare and of intentionally directing an attack against the civilian population; and the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts from at least 8 October 2023 until at least 20 May 2024."
<h2>Will Netanyahu be arrested in Hungary?</h2>
As a founding ICC member, theoretically, Hungary is bound to arrest and extradite anyone subject to an ICC warrant. However, Prime Minister Viktor Orban explicitly made it clear that he would not comply with the court's ruling.

This is Netanyahu's second trip abroad since the ICC issued its arrest warrant. Previously, in February, he travelled to the US &mdash; not an ICC member &mdash; to meet close ally President Donald Trump.
<h2>ICC slams Hungary for defying warrant</h2>
&nbsp;The Associated Press reports that the ICC on Wednesday (Apr 2) criticised Hungary for its decision to defy Netanyahu's arrest warrant. Fadi El Abdallah, the Hague-based court&rsquo;s spokesperson, said that it was not for parties to the ICC "to unilaterally determine the soundness of the Court&rsquo;s legal decisions".

In an email to the news agency, El Abdallah said that member states have an obligation to enforce the court's decisions and that if they disagree with any rulings, they may consult with the ICC.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that Trump's trade tariffs on close ally Australia are "not the act of a friend" and will hurt the two nations' relationship. "These tariffs are not unexpected, but let me be clear, they are totally unwarranted," he said.
"The Australian people have every right to view this action by the Trump administration as undermining our free and fair trading relationship and counter to the shared values that have always been at the heart of our two nations long-standing friendship," Albanese said, adding that the new measures could change how people see their relationship.&nbsp;

China said it "firmly opposes" new US tariffs on its exports. Beijing also &nbsp;vowed "countermeasures to safeguard its own rights and interests".
The Commerce Ministry in Beijing said in a statement that those tariffs "do not comply with international trade rules and seriously harm the legitimate rights and interests of the relevant parties".
It urged Washington to "immediately cancel" them, warning they "endanger global economic development", hurting US interests and international supply chains. It also accused the United States of a "typical unilateral bullying practice".
"The US claims to have suffered losses in international trade, using so-called 'reciprocity' as an excuse to raise tariffs on all trade partners," Beijing said.
"This approach disregards the balance of interests achieved through years of multilateral trade negotiations and ignores the fact that the US has long profited significantly from international trade," it added.
It instead called for "dialogue" to resolve the dispute.
"There is no winner in a trade war, and there is no way out for protectionism," it said, adding that "history has proven that raising tariffs does not solve the US's own problems."&nbsp;

Japan's trade minister Yoji Muto criticised the measure after being hit with a 24 percent US levy on its exports.&nbsp;
"The unilateral tariff measures taken by the US are extremely regrettable, and I have again strongly urged (Washington) not to apply them to Japan," he said.
Japan's chief cabinet secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi told reporters the tariffs may contravene World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules and the pair's trade treaty.

Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin said any EU reaction to US tariffs of 20 percent should be "proportionate", adding he deeply regretted the move by Trump.&nbsp;

A group of armed men, affiliated with the Al-Qassam Brigades kidnapped Uday last Friday, and then tortured him, Hassan said.&nbsp;

&ldquo;They took him, they kept torturing him,&rdquo; Hassan told CNN. &ldquo;They then called me and said, come get your brother.&rdquo;

&ldquo;They handed him over to me, and told me, in these words: This is the fate of everyone who disrespects Al-Qassam Brigades and speaks ill of them,&rdquo; Hassan said.
He further said that he collected his injured brother and took him to a nearby hospital. According to footage shared on social media, Rabie was seen lying on a hospital bed, covered in large cuts and bruises that stretched along his arms, back and feet.&nbsp;
Later, Hassan confirmed the authenticity of the video, and said the man on the bed was indeed his brother.
After being taken to the hospital, Rabie died shortly, his brother said.&nbsp;

However, the Al-Qassam Brigades has not yet publicly commented on the accusations.
Rabie&rsquo;s family published a statement on Facebook, saying that "a group claiming to be from Al-Qassam Brigades&rdquo; kidnapped Rabie at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. After hours of searching for Rabie, the statement said, his family was told he was in the hands of the group, who said he needed to be &ldquo;disciplined&rdquo; for &ldquo;cursing them.&rdquo;
