During a speech to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, von der Leyen said that many Europeans were &ldquo;utterly disheartened&rdquo; after US announcements.
&ldquo;Europe has not started this confrontation. We do not necessarily want to retaliate, but if it is necessary we have a strong plan to retaliate and we will use it,&rdquo; she said.

Vermont-based artist Val Hird rushed to buy a car before April 2 and shared with news outlet CBS MoneyWatch, that she wanted a Toyota RAV4 Plug-in hybrid, but her local Toyota dealer did not have the vehicle in stock.
Hird said she did it only because the tariffs were being imposed.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that India levies a 100 per cent tariff on American agricultural goods, making it "virtually impossible" for US exports to enter certain markets.
&ldquo;These countries have been ripping off our nation for far too long,&rdquo; Leavitt said. She accused these nations of showing disregard for American workers.
&ldquo;You have 100% tariff from India on American agricultural products,&rdquo; she said.
Leavitt added that "it&rsquo;s time for reciprocity," and declared that President Trump "is going to make historic changes, and that will happen on Wednesday."

Shu Hu, head of Purdue University's Machine Learning and Media Forensics Lab in the United States, told AFP that he believes the video was AI-generated.
&ldquo;The primary indication is that the individuals depicted in the video remain unnaturally stationary, whereas the fire visible in the distance exhibits realistic motion. This inconsistency strongly suggests artificial synthesis or manipulation,&rdquo; he explained.

Given the abundance of resources that can be exported from the Russian Arctic regions, Likachev shared a vision for transporting 100-150 million tons of cargo via the Northern Sea Route. For this, he said that Russia must build six more icebreaker vessels.&nbsp;
Further, he stressed on the need to have more cargo-ferrying ships that can improve logistics in the Arctic and the need for increased cooperation with shipbuilding nations. "I understand that we do not have enough capacity to meet the demand for cargo vessels in advance, and this is where international cooperation is necessary. Now we are having discussions with several countries that are experts in shipbuilding. First of all, we need to develop a strategy for increasing capacity at our shipyards," Likachev added.&nbsp;
Vladimir Panov, Rosatom's Special Representative for Arctic Development, emphasized that Russia's collaboration with China and India on the Northern Sea Route has reached a systematic level. &ldquo; Under the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the highest level, intergovernmental partnership forms were established with the People&rsquo;s Republic of China and the Republic of India. Researchers state that the number of buildings being constructed along the seafront has seen a dramatic rise in the last 10 years. Initially, only one building per year was built here, but now as many as 40 structures crop up here each year.

Study authors tried to dive into the reason for the collapse of the buildings and found that coastal erosion and the rise of sea levels caused by climate change is triggering the tragedy in Alexandria.
Study co-author Essam Heggy, a water scientist from the Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California, said, "We are witnessing the gradual disappearance of historic coastal cities, with Alexandria sounding the alarm. What once seemed like distant climate risks are now a present reality."
<h2>Rising water levels are making buildings weaker</h2>
As the water level rises and saltwater enters the land area, groundwater under the buildings also rises. This can cause the ground to sink, affecting the stability of buildings which become prone to falling down. Saltwater also corrodes the steel reinforcement of the buildings, further descreasing the strength of the buildings, the study noted.
"What we're showing here is that coastlines globally, especially Mediterranean coastlines similar to California's, are already changing and causing building collapses at an unprecedented rate," Heggy said.
Using satellite images from between 1974 and 2021 and city maps dating back to 1887, 1959, and 2001, the researchers analysed how much the sea level had risen. They found that Alexandria's coastline has moved inland by tens of metres in the past few decades. The researchers said that "historic cities like Alexandria" need to be preserved as they "are crucial for safeguarding our shared human heritage."
He added that it "isn't just about saving buildings; it's about preserving who we are."

Another Reddit user pointed out that it looks like a missile launch site as "similar shapes can be found in Iran." "Looks like what our fighter jet bunkers, or missile launchers, look like when they are in storage (you can find similar shapes in Iran, for example)," the user wrote.
"Based on the shape, it very well could have been a launch point with those dunes around it to act as blast walls."
