The Chinese state medialambasted US Secretary ofStateMikePompeofor backing President Donald Trump's assertion thatcoronavirusoriginated inChina.
Earlier, during a television interview on May 3, Pompeohad said that there is “significant amount” of evidence that the virus originated from a laboratory in Wuhan, China.
Chinese state broadcaster, CCTVcalling his claims "insane and evasive".
It attacked Pompeo by calling him ''evil'' and saying that he is wantonly spewing poison and spreading lies,''referred to statements by WHO Executive Director Mike Ryan and Columbia University virologist W Ian Lipkin.

The theory of the Chinese origin of the coronavirus has been heavily pushed by the administration of PresidentDonald Trump, who has been increasingly critical of China's handling of the outbreak that first emerged in Wuhan late last year.
Trump saidhe saw evidence that gave him confidence the virus emerged from a lab in Wuhan, without offering support to his claim.
