US drug regulator approves first-of-its-kind anti-obesity pill 'Wegovy'

The U.S. FDA approved a pill version of the weight-loss injection 'Wegovy', which is likely to be launched in January 2026. During its clinical trials, close to 1300 participants experienced an average weight loss of 16.6% after 64 weeks. Meanwhile, Orforglipron- an oral pill manufactured by U.S. drugmaker Eli Lilly is awaiting regulatory clearance.
