Ukraine was once the third-largest nuclear power on earth after the Cold War. The Soviet collapse led the country to inherit roughly 5,000 nuclear arms, which it gave away for nothing, as per experts. The deadly weapons were said to be the only reliable means to deter Russian aggression.
