Top Khamenei aide survives Israeli strike, makes public appearance in Tehran

In a dramatic turn of events, a high-ranking figure in Iran's security establishment, Ali Shamkhani, has resurfaced after surviving Israeli strikes earlier this month. He appeared in public for the first time on Saturday, attending a mass funeral which was dubbed the “funeral procession of the martyrs of power” for dozens of military commanders and nuclear scientists killed during the Israeli campaign. Shamkhani, visibly weakened and leaning on a cane, addressed the nation in a televised interview. He revealed that he was home with his family when it collapsed after a blast on June 13th. At first, Shamkhani thought it was an earthquake. He remained trapped under the rubble for three hours and suffered internal injuries and lung trauma. His wife and son were also injured in the blast. Long considered a strategic architect of Iran's regional posture, Shamkhani once led the country's Center for Strategic Studies and was even floated as a presidential contender.
