Indian soldiers fighting for the Anglo-French army against the Chinese in the Second Opium War were captured and killed in 1860. Their deaths set off a chain of events that led to the destruction of China's fabled Old Summer Palace and the demise of the Qing Dynasty. In a strange historical coincidence, the man responsible for inflicting retribution to the Chinese lies buried in McLeodganj in Himachal Pradesh.
