Scientists now believe humans may have more than five senses, with some estimates ranging from 22 to over 30. While the traditional five—sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell—are well known, neuroscientists have identified additional senses such as balance (equilibrioception), body position (proprioception), temperature, pain, and even internal bodily states like hunger and thirst. Recent research suggests these senses play a crucial role in how we perceive and interact with the world, with some studies indicating that the brain might function best with a broader range of sensory inputs.
