According to a detailed analysis combining national housing board data and urban income estimates published by TOI, even Maharashtra’s top 5 percent income earners, with a household income of 10.7 lakh rupees or over 12,000 dollars per month, would need to save for 109 years to afford an average-sized home in the city.
