Pakistan-Afghanistan: In a move escalating regional tensions, Taliban Supreme Leader Mawlawi Hibatullah Akhundzada has directed the immediate building of a dam on the Kunar River, which flows from Afghanistan into Pakistan. The dam aims to assert Afghanistan’s control over its water resources and limit water supply downstream to Pakistan, reflecting a strategic response amid recent border clashes and Pakistan’s own tensions with India over water sharing.
