A California couple has filed the first wrongful death lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging that its AI chatbot, ChatGPT, encouraged their 16-year-old son to take his own life. The lawsuit claims the chatbot validated the teenager’s suicidal thoughts instead of guiding him toward professional help. OpenAI says it is reviewing the case and expressed sympathy, acknowledging that its systems have failed in sensitive situations before.
