India: Article 142 to waive off divorce waiting period

The Supreme Court of India has passed a landmark verdict for couples seeking mutual divorce. It can now invoke special powers under article 142 of the constitution of India, to waive off the compulsory waiting period of 6 to 8 months in case of irretrievable breakdown of marriage, for individuals seeking divorce through mutual consent.
