NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has warned that Europe cannot defend itself without the United States, amid growing transatlantic unease over President Donald Trump’s ambitions regarding Greenland. Speaking to members of the European Parliament in Brussels, Rutte said any belief that Europe could ensure its own security without US support was unrealistic, stressing that NATO allies “need each other” as concerns grow over the future of US–Europe relations.
