Ten people have gone on trial in Paris, charged with online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the French First Lady. The case targets false claims circulating online that Brigitte Macron was born a man, a rumor that has been amplified internationally.
The trial follows a US defamation lawsuit filed by Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron against right-wing podcaster Candace Owens, who propagated these “verifiably false and devastating lies.” The lawsuit highlighted the global humiliation and relentless bullying faced by the Macron family online.
